Infamous: Second Son Review Thread

I don´t see anything wrong with the scores, i´m surprised there´s a lot of 9, the game is clearly a 7, maybe an 8 for it´s graphics only.

Looks like a next gen game, plays like a old gen game = 7-8 is fair.

I have no clue what this means. Tell me, how does a next gen game play? Are there examples?

Ha Sessler getting grilled and now we love Polygon!!

Never change gaf!

where exactly are "we" loveing polygon?

I just read that videogamer.com "review"... is games journalist this guys full time job? Can you actually get money for this type of work? smh

Sessler leans pretty heavily on either 'narrative' or 'game design/gameplay.'

If he's satisfied on either one, he's a lot more forgiving about other flaws about the game. On the other hand, he's critical about said titles if he feels like one of each doesn't scratch his itch.

Games like Forza/Titanfall satisfies his latter itches. Thus the notion of low-track/car count doesn't even matter to him, because FUN. TF's lack of modes, etc? Doesn't matter, it's fun.

Narrative is a pretty obvious one, given his hyperboles. Bioshock Infinite, GTAV? Dickens.

Just watched and wow, that sessler review is a joke. That man cannot loose any more credibility, he doesn't have any left.

Yep. He's made some really wacky statements leading up to this gen and maybe it's a result of him feeling the pressure of running a site, but he's lost all credibility to me. Crazy because he was once one of the best game reviewers out there.

Sessler is a cool guy imo, he has been more enthusiastic about Xbox One and Titantfall since E3 last year. Maybe infamous wasn't his cup of tea? I don't think anyone should attack him though

These 2 hurt. Still day one though.

This is kind of a joke, really.

Still can't wait for my copy to get here, but I'm getting antsy for the real, first incredible AAA with an obvious must-play status. Launch titles were boring, Titanfall lacks content and a single player campaign, and this looks like it has problems keeping it from being great.

Expected reviews. Sucker Punch is merely a decent studio, not a great one.

I'm not sure if this will be my cup of tea. I thought infamous 1 was horrendous.

Oh wow, that's pretty lot of good scores. I thought SP only is in danger.

Hmm, look like I have a good happy life, cos I can't follow Rev3 (I'm deaf) and look like Rev3 managed piss all fan bases off.

I'm actually really curious as to what you mean by this. Did you expect there to be some sort of paradigm shift in gameplay with the new consoles? And if so, why and how?

Sorry, but what does an old-gen game play like? I'm so confused by this arbritary distinction between what is "next-gen" and "old-gen" gameplay? Sure, if it was technically not possible on last-gen hardware, maybe I could understand.

But what is an example of "next-gen" gameplay from games which are currently released for PS4/XBO?

It's not really strange to see Eurogamer and Edge in the very bottom of scores and Sessler as an outlier was to be expected too.

All the other scores in OP are very nice, 85 metacritic almost matching Titanfall's very much on track.

Jim Sterling for the Escapist 3 and a half stars.

Seems like it's going to be a decent but not very memorable game. PS4 still waiting for that killer app.

It's times like this where I wish Sony had been a bit faster with that digital refund policy. This game screams "sale pickup".

Why are we even giving these reviewers the time of day?

They are corrupt, incompetent, juvenile fanboys fuelled by junk food and dependant on the very teet they "review".

One bad review can blacklist them from events, early review copies, merchandise etc which will end their career.

We know it happens. We know they get bribed. We know they have agendas. We know they suck fucking ass. So why are we still treating them like they matter?

Ha, I got the same feeling. GAF was always raving about Sessler and how good he was in his videos. Now they're shitting on him.

I don't get it and I don't really care. He's just 1 guy out of a dozen other reviewers.

Sess has been called out for his statements here before, a lot of people actually don't like sess here. Used to be a fan, unfollowed him because he just seems a tad bit off on his statements during the x1, ps4 reveal (the "if ps+ is required brings the price up to nearly the xb1's price without adding xbox live, and the chemical weapons manufacturers comments stick out like a sore thumb)

I did enjoy his reviews, and his shows like the spoiled games segments, but he did lose some credibility in my eyes. I will watch his review once I'm done with the game, but he has been skeptical in his previews of Infamous: SS, even comparing it to Titan Fall in one of his videos.

All these reviews are irrelevant without the day one patch.

What a clusterfuck.

We got the day-one patch. Only thing I was missing was the Cole's Legacy missions. And we couldn't go past the first Paper Trail mission or link our Paper Trail account to our PSN account.

So Edge says it looks like shit, and Sessler says it plays like shit.

And yet it's sitting mid 80's on metacritic.

These are not really subjective statements. Really highlights the problem with certain areas of the games press.

I'll categorically disagree that it looks like shit or plays like shit.

Well, it's a shame I couldn't reach you. Perhaps you'll find a reviewer or other body whose tastes align with yours. Good journey, sir.

Sessler is a goddamn joke.

Don't get me wrong, I think he is entitled to his opinion, as is everyone else. I actually quite like him and most of the content he puts up in his channel. But the lack of consistency here is quite baffling. Mainly talking about the "plays like a last gen game" argument, when he just gave a game that plays like every other FPS ever a max score. Just doesn't make any sense.

This plays nothing like AC......................
I know, I've beat the other 2 infamous games, they are much more fun to play and combat doesn't even compare to the shite in AC4.
Still, I've had enough of collecting collectibles for a while.

My understanding is that this game is pretty much Infamous 2 re-imagined for PS4. Same gameplay, much better graphics.

This probably isn't for you, which is fine. I personally found the inFamous series to be better than any of Naughty Dog's games.

Please dont ban me for asking this but why is Sesslers Review even listed here? How does this guy stil have ANY credibility left after his Twitter meltdown and still being pissed for not getting a free PS4 before launch?

Im just getting frustrated with that guy. I seriously dont understand how he gave Titanfall a 5 (which is graphically underperforming, framerate is dropping etc.) and Infamous only a 3 which is graphically an amazing looking game, has fantastic acting / face performances and a great story.
