Injustice: Gods Among Us demo impressions

So wait, the game is slow? i saw a recent video and it seemed fucking slow, thought it was just the video or something.

So it has quarter circle motions, and not MK style inputs?

Demo just has MK-style inputs. Full game lets you switch between MK-style/Capcom-style.

So wait, the game is slow? i saw a recent video and it seemed fucking slow, thought it was just the video or something.

Demo's been out for like an hour? Not really enough time to come to many meaningful conclusions.

People who've had more time with it mostly say the game is pretty fast though.

Downloading now, im just basing my comment on Wonder Woman off of the stream I seen a week ago about her.

Ooh, hah, my bad. Well I hope you enjoy Wonder Woman as much as when you try her out.

I would try it out first before saying anything. But a lot have said its fast, its just a few who are saying its slow, so I wouldn't base it grom that.

It's both slow and fast.

The pace of the game is fast, but at first it feels weird and slow.

The walk speed is slow for Lex and Diana, dashes are pretty fast, but they move you pretty far, and you can't cancel them, so they feel weird at first, and you really can't spam them in an actual match or you will die horribly.

Also Injustice and MK have slower normal attacks then SF, and every other 2D game ever, it's a weird in between between 2D and 3D normals.
In SF a fast jab is like 3 frames of animation, in this, the fastest jab will come out at 6 frames, and moves in general have longer recovery.

Basically for the first 20 minutes, it will probably feel really stiff, clunky, slow, and weird. Once you figure out what you are doing, it will feel more natural.

The game isn't fast by any stretch of the imagination, but its speed is exacerbated by the fact that nobody knows what they're doing yet. I'd say wait until you're comfortable with your characters before commenting on speed.

SF4 and SF3 are two of the slowest fighters out there, imo, but I don't really notice when I'm playing.

As for the game: Looks pretty nice. Might not be native res? Seems kind of jaggy/blurry. MK looked better at first glance.

Control scheme will take some getting used to. I played on a pad which didn't help. Just DL'ed and played a few matches before work. I used Wonder Woman.

Don't have much to say about gameplay yet as this is completely foreign to me and will take a bit to get accustomed. Looking forward to trying it out, though.

Just gonna be sitting here waiting...

oh man rofl cannot breath

Ok just played about 5 minutes or so, and I can say this game is freaking dope! Does not feel like MK9 to me. It's so much faster. I did some super sick juggle combo with Batman and went crazy about it. lol I just have to remember to stop tying to dash right after I do a launcher.

Just hitting buttons in singleplayer, this is pretty fun so far. Batman and Wonder Woman both feel pretty good, haven't tried Lex yet.

No button config which is kind of weird. Also no instructions at all about what button does what, aside from the special moves list. This is what I figured out from mashing all the buttons:

X = light
Y = medium
A = heavy
B = special/gimmick

RT = press for EX moves
LB = throw (or light + heavy)
RB = interact with background
RT + LT = super

I don't know how you initiate that wager thing or do stage transitions.

It does have the whole move list and frame data though for the demo characters.

Are the shoulder buttons (aside from throw) actual individual buttons or are they macros? That seems like a bunch of useless buttons to use if they aren't macros.

No Wii U demo.

Then no purchase in the end. I was on the fence because I'm not crazy about fighters but was interested in the single player and story and was willing to get into the multiplayer. However I'm not buying the game without being able to try it out first, especially when there is no official word from the developers/publishers regarding DLC. I know Nintendo said something in the Nintendo Direct but it isn't there game.

You don't own any other consoles?

No idea since there's no in-game instructions or descriptions of the controls. LB is a macro for X+A to throw, but I'm not sure about the rest.

Throw and Stage interactions are macros.

RT is the Meter button, which is basically a phantom block button, it does what the block button does in MK, with out actually being a block button lol.
It's used for meter burning specials, pushblock, clash, and supers.

This game is awesome. Friggin' awesome.

LEX LUTHOR
Lex Luthor doesn't control space like a traditional dude to keep you out...he controls it to force you into mixups and crossups. All his stuff seems geared to force you into his offense. He's fast on his normals and he has some really dirty traps with his mines. You can't setup orbital strike stuff quick though so don't worry about that too much, but stuff like chucking mines behind or in front of folks to vacuum them into or push block them into or OKI trap them into is EASY. Plus his Air AX is every bit as good as Haggar's pipe. It checks folks like crazy , and it crosses up and comes out fast. Great dash too...it helps with setting up Mines. Armor isn't as good as we'd thought. Its chargeable to 3 levels with only level 3 absorbing 100% of anything and all levels seem to only absorb 1 hit ( I think). Not an armor abuser, but it seems to help him get his traps out.

Wonder Woman
Holy hell she is a surprise bro in lasso stance. Sword/shield stance is slow and her shield doesn't recover well at all for stuff, but her lasso stance has really good normals, and long combos with extensions. Her AA divepunch doesn't link into other divepunches without meter burn but in the air you can either do a horizontal divepunch to punish folks or a divekick angled punch. I've been doing combos into aa divepunch METER BURN into horizontal divepunch for huuuuge corner carry and in the corner her combos keep them juggled forever. Super good stuff in lasso form. Her lasso is also damned easy to work with. Her projectiles in both forms are straight up trash though so don't use them just use her bracelets if folks are chucking stuff. Her projectiles should only be used in combos IMO and aren't good for checking folks or bullet wars.

BATMAN
God Damned sandbox with his stuff. Use his launcher where he grabs you and throws you by your ankles often and those remote bats are great for both mixups and bizarre combo linking of moves...especially in the corner. His EX moves are great like his horizontal zipline and his double jump isn't done by double tapping up...its up then up forward or up backward and surprisingly this feels SUUUUUUUPER smooth. Its like a tiger knee sort of feeling and it feels more natural doing this for his cape glide double jump honestly. Folks are getting good combos already with him on TYM and I think his butterfly kick into AA batarang is pretty cool as a launcher thing. I'm gonna see if I can't use that into remote bats to setup some sort of jump cancel combo thing.

Go here for a TON of folks dropping stuff they are finding

TYM is digging deep. Pig of the Hut already has a 45% combo going.

LOL
Why did they even bother if they won't even try to sell it? Is it for the future "that game didn't sell so won't be supporting this console"?

I did tell Ed Boon not to blame the WiiU owners when this game bomb hard. They are not supporting the community at all..

Anyway back to topic. I am going to probably check the demo tonight on the ps3.

Thanks for the explanation. I forgot the game had pushblock.

Definitely wouldn't say it's as slow as Street Fighter.

Nice, thanks

No problem. Also you can mine throw and instantly vacuum to pull folks into it with Lex and pushblock DOES shove them into ones behind them. He is gonna be a nonstop mixup/crossup machine from about midscreen to up close range. Either rush him to death or stay full screen is my advice. He can't pop too many things as GTFO vs say Flash or Catwoman pressure is my guess aside from his fast L so stay on this man and don't let him get going. I think blocking and throwing rushdown and then setting up mines will be key for Lex Luthor players vs strong rushdown.

So did they go 6-button with this? Boon refused to answer my "do I have to toss out my MK sticks now?", so I can only assume.

Technically its a 6 button game.

Light, Medium, Heavy, Power, Stage, Meter.

Stage is a macro though, so you could play it as a 5 button game.

Really enjoying it. Luthors win animation is pure swag.

Actually finding it pretty fast paced. Some of the moves feel like they have awkward recovery times

Technically 7 since stance button is useless outside of how you need to push it with the other trigger to do a special.

X = light
Y = medium
A = heavy
B = special/gimmick

RT = press for EX moves
LB = throw (or light + heavy)
RB = interact with background
RT + LT = super

I'm going to setup my stick in the game once I get it for.

L M H THROW
GIMMICK METER STAGE (macro for special LT/RT)

The current config for my 8 button stick is setup by default at

L M THROW STANCE
H G STAGE METER

I just don't like hitting two buttons for special and having my meter burn out in no mans land requiring my pinky be active with either my pointer and middle at the same time. Pinky is not my favorite finger for delegating key input buttons to.

In the final game I will probably use

Light, Heavy, Stage
Medium, Meter, Power

as my button layout on a stick.

But we'll see.

Download the demo folks. It answers all your questions and dear GOD the youtube vids have not done this game's framerate any justice. It looks great when you play it!
