Ha, this is kind of funny. Nolan comments section bingo.

Oh hell no. I'd rather a director's reach exceed his grasp than deliberately aim lower for easier results.

It's not even a matter of going for more comfortable material. Just focus in on the strengths and make those great, instead of doing a lot with mixed results.

We know he's capable of that with past films like Memento and The Prestige, and hardly anyone ever craps on those films.

They have a much smaller target on their backs. There's no sense of self-satisfaction at nitpicking to death an indie film or comparatively little-seen drama when you can boast to the world about why, contrary to popular opinion, The Dark Knight and Inception actually really aren't that great.

Exactly.

Inception hate is directly proportional to the love and rave reviews it received. Early reviews called it a masterpiece, smart, and genius. So of course those who "figured it out" in 5 minutes feel the movie was trying to be "too smart". Or pretentious. Too much exposition! Its dumb! It falls apart when you watch it 10 times! Its a chore!

Instead of just disliking it because it didn't work as a film for them, people have to go out of their way to prove why its bad, dumb, and from now on all Nolan movies are the same!

This is just one of those threads where we argue about reviews before any of us have even seen the film. I'm still going and I'll comment on the reviews when I'm in a position to. Right now, I have no idea which criticism is justified and which is not.

I loved Inception and the majority of his previous work, which means I gave Nolan the benefit of the doubt when I purchased my tickets pre reviews. If it's a stinker, I may have to reconsider doing so in future.

As long as it's not as bad as Prometheus, which was an absolute stinker and possibly my biggest movie let down in years.

i'm down on nolan half the time but there's no way anything he's made is as bad as a lindelof script.
Eh, id rather watch Prometheus than Dark Knight Rises. At least the former has some visually interesting stuff and isn't nearly 3 hours.

The Dark Knight Rises has its problems, but no film has made me as angry as Prometheus in its total lack of any intelligence contained within the script. Visually it's beautiful in places, but it's not enough to rescue the movie. Rises is an average movie, Prometheus is just utter dogshit. Ridley knows how to shoot a movie, but clearly doesn't know his arse from his elbow when it comes to script quality.

Interstellar is still a lock for 5 oscars as per oscars and 4 major critics think interstellar is a lock for at least the best picture nomination

Gizmodo loves it . Don't click it has spoilers

The movie is excellent. There are a few holes in the plot that no doubt will be analyzed and discussed and dissected to death. Those don't bother me! Interstellar is excellent. It takes you to new worlds, it fills you with wonder, and it captivates you fully with the hugeness of space and the depth and breadth of emotion an exploration. And you need to see it. You really, really need to see it.

nolan's casting with james cameron's everything else (and some spielberg sentiment/sap) would be GOAT blockbuster.

that shit's a fake tweet though. Sculli prolly made it. i don't see it on his twitter page.

Guess that Oscar is gone. I wonder if it will go negative? They're going to have to change the consensus soon if the score keeps dropping.

I'd be shocked if Interstellar didn't get a Best Picture nom, regardless of where it ends up on RT or if it's any good.

the category is so fucking watered down and they changed the rules and ruined an already shitty award even further specifically for Nolan. A BP nom is completely meaningless these days.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. Prometheus was a beautiful movie to look at but I can't watch it anymore, it just pisses me off too much. I'd rather watch TDKR any day of the week over Prometheus again. Such a trainwreck.

"We used to look up at the stars and wonder how high our Tomatometer would go. Now we just look down and wonder if we'll be rotten."

The first year they allowed more than 5 was 2009. How was it done specifically for Nolan?

It was. There was a lot of backlash from the year before when TDK hadn't been nominated. The Academy saw the expansion of the field as a means of drawing in the masses by putting their favourite hit moneymakers in the horse race.

Goddamnit! I missed out by a couple of minutes to review this movie, now I'm going to see The Homesman instead :( Weep for me gaf

I know it's not an action movie, but how are the action/suspense scenes that are in the film?

Fucking INTENSE.

There's one scene in particular that even people who had problems with the movie were like 'holy shit'.

Like it was undeniably insane. Which is weird, because I think Nolan is usually shit at creating genuine tension during action scenes.

What was the general feeling from others at the screening? Positive, negative, a mix?

It was mixed-ish. I think people who didn't like it as much struggled with the last act.

I think everyone was bullish about the movie's ambition. It's a big movie about big ideas.
