Interstellar |OT| (dir. Christopher Nolan) Whatever can happen will happen

I don't mind being overly ambitious, but I really don't want the script to be overly corny. I can do with just a bit of cheese delivered by Matthew.

Fucking INTENSE.

There's one scene in particular that even people who had problems with the movie were like 'holy shit'.

Like it was undeniably insane. Which is weird, because I think Nolan is usually shit at creating genuine tension during action scenes.
Okay, now I'm sold

That's weird, some of the reviews said that the 3rd act was the strongest part of the movie (with the 2nd one being the weakest due to the exposition).

3rd act is the strongest from majority of reviews but it's also the part which I heard is when people have been going wow, some got confused by it , I believe I heard it was ridiculously good to the point some people got confused if this was really a Nolan 3rd act. There is a point in the middle where
hathaway character reveals something major in the middle of the 2nd act which rolls into the 3rd act to the big finale
Mr serrels will nod his head about the spoiler part I assume ?

The reviews make it sound disappointing, but I'm still watching it. Probably not this weekend, though. I want to watch that one new Keanu Reeves movie and also Fury first.

Looks like Nolan's in trouble

It was. There was a lot of backlash from the year before when TDK hadn't been nominated. The Academy saw the expansion of the field as a means of drawing in the masses by putting their favourite hit moneymakers in the horse race.

Yup. I think it was a good move. There's never really more than 2-3 front runners anyhow, so why not recognize a few extra films that have no chance at the actual prize?

I'm going to spoiler this just in case as it relates to the
other thread where I joked about seeing the film and making up wacky plot, but it seems like MM character meets up with matt damons character who's from another time or dimension. So looks like I was right, lol.

Expect a positive review from this Major critic

Jessica Chastain’s right hook=no Interstellar spoilers but her space epic=nirvana for film addicts & she kills in it

Time Magazine (Major Critic)

With Interstellar, Nolan’s reach occasionally exceeds his grasp. That’s fine: These days, few other filmmakers dare reach so high to stretch our minds so wide. And our senses, all of them. At times, dispensing with Hans Zimmer’s pounding organ score, Nolan shows a panorama of the shuttle in the heavens — to the music of utter silence. At these moments, viewers can hear their hearts beating to the sound of awe.

Interstellar contemplates nothing less than our planet’s place and fate in the vast cosmos. Trying to reconcile the infinite and the intimate, it channels matters of theoretical physics — the universe’s ever-expanding story as science fact or fiction — through a daddy-daughter love story. Double-domed and defiantly serious, Interstellar is a must-take ride with a few narrative bumps.

LOL how many times are we going to hear "Nolan's reach exceeds his grasp" from critics?

His own quotes working against him!

Oh hell no. I'd rather a director's reach exceed his grasp than deliberately aim lower for easier results.
Exactly.

I respect Terrance Malik a lot for The Tree of Life, for example. Even if the film didn't reach the heights I was hoping for.

The Nolan defense force needs to stahp
I honestly cannot tell from reading some of these reviews if this is Nolan's best movie and potential Oscar candidate movie or if it's just a slightly better Inception. There really is nothing to defend, a lot of it is very divisive stuff but everyone seems to agree that you have to experience the movie first hand.

No one's attacking anyone here.

The same people posting positive reviews are also posting the negative ones. If you want to whine about a defense force then wait until November when you'll actually have real things to complain about.

If you are calling out critics based on their opinions of a movie they've seen and you haven't, you might be a defense force member.

No one's calling anyone out. Only thing people are commenting on are their writing style and use of quotes. And this applies to both positive and negative reviews (the latest reach/grasp quote was used in Time magazine which was a very positive review).

There really isn't much to discuss here. One of my friends saw this movie at the Chinese theater, he said it's one of the best movies of the year with an ending that he says is among the best out of the past 5 years. Of course take with a grain of salt he is no critic but I do take what he says with some value. I still have a hard time believing it so its whatever... everyone and their moms who is posting in this thread is going to watch this movie.

This is gaf. If you challenge what someone writes in any way, you're either part of the defense force or a fanboy.

Anyway, a lot of these reviews are reading similar to inception's reviews. I'm totally cool with getting another Inception-level movie, as I loved that movie more than most.

I know Paramount is doing everything they can to help IFC out with the awards campaign for Boyhood, but I just don't see the film being up the alley of most voters.

Yeah, it's a lock for Best Picture nom, but it's not an "actor's movie" so it probably won't get enough love from the actors voting bloc.
