PS2, PC and Xbox 360 players can play all together.I remember Square were all about open networks previously..does FFXI let you play with PS2 players? Or PC players? Can PC and PS2 players even play together?
And this is exactly what MS did to Xbox Live when they modified it to allow EA coming in, and also what allowed Square to put FFXI on the 360. So I really don't understand this "XBL is closed!" complaining...Wollan said:I wonder how Sony's element with their PS3 service that lets outside companies(blizzard, EA, whatever) have direct customer-relationship with us, I wonder how that will work. Will be interesting to see.
Maybe for your 'master' PS3 account you can 'subscribe' to Battle.net, EA...etc.
So whenever you login into a Blizzard game on your PS3, your master account logs in with your subscribed Battle.net account for you(and when a friend logs in, his battle.net name possibly different from his master account name, my master account/PS3 service will tell me "Bob has loggged onto battle.net as Bob99").
Very interesting read. Thanks!<nu>faust said:from tom's rants

But it's what you're doing in FFXI. The feature is there, if the developer wants to use it.Wollan said:Not really. You're not login in with your EA account on 100% EA controlled enviroment like you would on your PS2(or my PS3 thought). StarCraft Ghost is only playable on battle.net with the PS2 version for example.
speedpop said:If WoW were to head onto 360, does that mean Live subscription pays for it, or does Blizzard get that fee?
I think that's what the main thing is.. Blizzard would prefer the money is being paid to them, not Microsoft.

"Because Xbox Live servers host all of the downloadable content and Microsoft handles all of the billing, Microsoft takes a percentage of any payment for downloadable content and subscriptions. Right now, that works out to about $0.75 on a $5 piece of content. Not bad, considering that unlike other consoles, Microsoft eats the certification costs, which run between $20,000 and $50,000 per certification submission."

i don't really a reason for ms to really to bend over backwards for billizard either: ms spend put alot of effort &resources over time to bring xbl to the level where it is today , they are not going to comprimise unless not bringing the game to xbl becomes a risk factor for them (like let's say wow's subscriber number reaches 10 mil by the end of 2006/2007, sony accepts billizard's rules and announces wow's ps3 version....) Plus ,there is a decent amount of big name publishers(with well known ips) trying to get in to console mmorpg market and create the "wow of console world" with accepting ms's rules.Mashing said:Pretty much, Blizzard is in a position to rake Microsoft over the coals. Microsoft is the one that would have to bend over backard for Blizzard. I don't think Blizzard would be willing to compromise. And why should they? It's their IP, their servers their personnel upkeeping it. They should get everything.
Mrbob said:When the Blizzard COO talks closed system, he is obviously talking about money. Blizzard doesn't want MS stealing any of their profits off of a X360 version of WoW. This is why you won't see the game on X360 unless MS changes their rules for Blizzard.

Borys said:I didn't understand a word from what you said, anyway I have to damage control Blizzard so let me put a simple math-sheet for you:
Xbox Live userbase - circa 2M users paying $4 monthly for countless Xbox games. Pretty good deal If I was to say myself.
WoW userbase - 6M users paying $15 monthly for ONE game on a "dying" platform. Goddamn, that's ridiculous! if I was to say myself.
Now who needs who?
Blizzard doesn't need both Microsoft nor Live service, never did to be frank and probably never will given their PC sales numbers. Blizzard makes billions their own way in the PC market (*gasp* I thought everyone abandoned this "sinking" ship!).
Thank you for your attention.

I know you are all over sensitive and passionate about the criticisms against the pc platform and the future of pc gaming...
I make a living by doing math calculations and writing code all day ,i really don't need any more math lessons (but english lessons...i guess i need them)

PC based MMOG cannot be ported to a console. It just doesn't work!

putting a proprietary network like battle.net inside another proprietary network like Live just doesn't make any sense at all.beermonkey@tehbias said:WhaaaaaH, Xbox Live is closed, we can't own the network WHAAAAAAH.
well i think a specific console tailored version of wow is certainly doable, but since billizard is insisting on a version that would let all the userbase play together.... the chances are slim.Ulairi said:No one really believed WoW would hit the 360. just wishful thinking.

well it's not like i know alot about the system,i have just read couple of articles on axapta systems/microsoft's danish aquisition. also i'm happy that you love your job and wish you good luck, cos' lately i hate what i do and i'm dying to switch to management/business development side of things.Borys said:Whoa, you are like the *first* person to know where X++ is used.I love it so far![]()
