I usually get six to eight for $1 at my supermarkets.

Wow America doesn't treat noodles with respect. Down under you'll get 1 for 2 dollars and a 4 pack for $3-4. We've been the ones keeping him rich all along.

May he RIP, lord knows he helped me through my lonely days when i had no job nor future perspectives but i always had my noodles.:)

Yes, RIP. At least he got to live to a rip old age of 96..

But then again, if I got to that age, I'd aim for 100.

Don't know where you shop, I see (the cheapest) for around 33 cents a packet when buying in a big pack, and around 50-60 cents each when getting them individually. But thats if you want to buy the shittest cheapo ones.

Rest in peace my good friend. I did not know this man personally but the fact that he created perhaps the most convenient and tasty food on the planet tells me he was a hell of a guy.

I salute you sir.

Yeah adding an egg and cheese makes it an ok low budget meal.

I think in my first couple years of cooking for my own I tried a couple brands of Ramen. Top, Maruchan, Sapporo Ichiban and probably one other. Of course everytime I go to an Asian market I find out just how many more brands/varieties there are.

I shall eat a Beef Cup O Noodle tonight in remembrance (only thing in my parents house in terms of instant noodles).

Maruchan is cheaper. 10 for a dollar or 1 for a dollar? Hmm. When you're a broke student making $7 an hour the choice is obvious.

I eat very little ramen these days. Slow Cooker FTW.
the ****? 1 for a dollar? you're getting ripped off.

Most places I go to, sapporo is cheaper than maruchan, actually.

I was in the kitchen this morning and decided to cook eggs and sausage for breakfast, but planned to do a cup noodle for lunch.

I hated instant noodles when I was younger, but now appreciate how convenient and affordable they are. I stock up on them just to have something in the house to fall back on. I'm going to keep my plan and enjoy some later in honor of this man.

R.I.P and Respect.

and I'm not the only one who sometime eat the ramen raw right?
Of course not. that's what makes them so awesome. If you don't feel like bothering to spend the time to cook them (like 3 minutes), you can just eat them raw! :D

That was my late night dorm room fallback! ;_;

I'm eating some of the $0.10 ramen tonight for dinner to honor his service. I'll consider adding egg, but I'm a purist at heart.

RIP

R.I.P :(

I've never had ramen with anything other than the flavor packet. Can someone post some easy recipes for someone who sucks at cooking?

man, I've started to eat some noodles with the spicy flavor pack last year and it's ****ing awesome!!

I admire (truly!) his invention, it got me through my senior year. But to be honest, I always preferred Maruchan's bricks and powder over the Cup Noodle style, mostly because the former didn't have corn in it.

Seriously, corn in soup? What the hell?

I just purchased a couple of Sapporo Ichiban at my supermarket since you guys seems to value this brand more than any other. The noodles were great and the miso flavor was nice but the 0.89$ CAD I've paid for it make the taste bitter :(
Oh well, time to try the Chow Mein flavor

The sheer variety and volume of instant noodles in Taiwan is astonishing. You go into any supermarket and there's aisles with nothing but instant noodles. But while instant noodles in America are like guilty pleasures or snacks, the ones sold there can qualify as legitimate meals since they taste so awesome. I live in the largest Chinese community in the US and even our Asian supermarkets can't even touch theirs in terms of instant noodle quantity and quality. Here's a picture I snapped a couple years ago in some random Taiwan market:

(link for big)

The best instant noodles I ever had was probably on Eva Airlines. Beef noodle, absolutely delicious.

i used to alway buy his super cheap instant noodles when my food $ budget was low, a flavored pack costed 50 cents (canadian) i think.
RIP

Yeah, instant noodles are soooo much more popular in Asia than in North America. The selection of instant noodles here are... well, pathetic, compared to the far east.

Which is not surprising, but still amazing. My grocery store has half an isle (and these are big isles) filled with instant noodles - a dozen or so brands, well over a hundred flavors or so. I'm still working my way through them all.

This thread just made me hungry. Again.

the instant noodles must have been his lifestream, and eventually the lifestream wasn't high enough to keep him sustained. i always thought the ramen chicken powder tasted weird.

+1 to the list of homage payers....

Man, when I was drugged out and crawling home after a night.. who am I kidding, a WEEKEND, of non-stop sniffing/smoking/drinking, you made sure I did not die.

Calories = Life

Damn, those were the days.

:lol

Damn... Im going to have some noodles for lunch in honor of Ando-san may he rest in peace.

*respect +1*

Mexico owes this man a serious debt of gratitude. I heard a while back that they buy more instant noodles than anywhere else in the world every year.

Sapporo Ichiban > Maruchan.

Anyone who buys Maruchan over Sapporo Ichiban except when Sapporo Ichiban isn't available for purchase is making a mistake.

Damn straight.

I didn't know about Sapporo Ichiban until my roommate pointed it out but it's better than Maruchan IMO.

Maruchan just tastes plain in comparison.

I am definitely making a bowl in salute to you, Ando.

The broth might be a little salty from my tears though. =(

Hold crap, i'm eating some Maruchan right now. They're no Sapporo Ichiban, but when you fry some bacon, lightly fry the ramen cake in the bacon drippings, drizzle some toasted sesame oil on the cake, and join the cake, bacon, and boiling water and season packet mixture together for 3-5 minutes, let cool slightly and enjoy, they're are some of the best things ever after an abridged night of drinking.
Oh. My. God. I just made the Maruchan roast beef ramen this way, and it was sublime. I didn't previously have the rapturous nostalgia as the rest of you, but this preparation method really took it to a higher level. Thanks, aoi tsuki!

yeah its amazing how creative you can get with otherwise bland maruchan brand ramen. wheres that one guy with his recipe that he posted a few years ago?
