It is, but it's not the real kind that was made with wormwood back in the day. Unfortunate, I know.

Check the laws if it's anything like the US it's already legal, just no one knows it yet. :lol

Massively impressive numbers for Obama and Huckabee. As a democratic I'll take that matchup, Huckabee has some skeletons that will be pretty damning in the general election.

Ufortunately, bad email "OMG Barack is teh muslim" chain letters may do damage to his campaign.

The real loser tonight; Neo Conservative foreign policy.

then why mention bloomberg? Bloomberg is extremely liberal on economic policy. He is big govt. republican.

The only reason I brought up Bloomberg is because it's very clear that Paul has a unique base of support and I don't think Bloomberg would pick a running mate who thinks exactly the same way on every issue.

Yeah, it's a shame Hilary finished 3rd.

People still think our Iraq policy will change significantly with a new President? :lol :lol
Well, they're probably the same people who think schools will magically begin teaching creationism with no resistance if Huckabee is elected.

Congress will ensure that it changes at the same glacial pace no matter who's in the whitehouse.

2) Ron Paul done tanked. His poll numbers since June have matched the caucus performance. Curious to see all the conspiracy theories that will be popping up about why the poll numbers match the caucus performance.
Huh? He rarely broke 1% in polling in June, and even in the week leading up to tonight, he was still in the mid to high single digits. 10%, if it holds up, is exceeding expectations for Paul.

The Log Cabin Republicans (gay republican organization for anyone who doesn't know) had better wake up and smell the coffee this election cycle. If the party seriously nominates Huckabee then I don't give a crap what kind of economic policy you favor, you have no business supporting a party that will nominate someone that quite frankly thinks you're hell-bound scum with no business even existing.

They can throw around all the rhetoric they want about the "party being hijacked" by evangelicals and other nonsense, that just means the party is broken, and broken beyond repair.
Well, there is something to be said about sticking with their party and trying to reform it from the inside. However, they certainly have one hell of a battle to fight.

But it isn't totally hopeless . . . Guiliani, Christie Todd-Whitman, and Schwarzenegger are all pretty pro-gay Republicans.

The weird ones though are the very large number anti-gay gay republicans. Mayor West of Spokane, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Michael Huffington, etc.
Lindsey Graham? David Dreir?

Yeah, I remember when Triumph was swearing Paul wouldn't top 5% anywhere.:lol

BTW, it's odd that the Democratic race is basically now pared down to just 3 possibilities, whereas the Republican race is still pretty spread out. If you look at the numbers, you had 5 Repubs in double digits and Giuliani is still around.

Yes its far from over. I don't see any of yall calling Giuliani out in which Ron Paul CRUSHED in Iowa. Wait till Feb. 5th for that talk.

Don't go by what I say, listen to the man himself...

If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague. It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents.

Huckabee deeply enjoys using the word "plague". It conjures up images of the 14th century - you know, the dark ages, black death, malevolent god and a shroud of endless tears and suffering for non-believers. The heretics, if you will.

I don't think anyone believes it will be like that, but someone like Huckabee should not be in charge of the most important country in the world. Look at how he handled the Bhutto situation. You seriously want this guy negotiating with other countries in a time like this?

Its LOLz-worthy isn't it?

We are on the cusp of a massive flip-flop by the DEMs on Iraq. See the ease in which the latest Iraq funding bill passed for reference.

Forget Chuck. If Obama really wants a badass bodyguard, get Tony Jaa.

Agreed, the last time we hired a folksy good old boy who couldn't find troublespot countries on a map or name their leaders we wound up the most hated country in the world.

Giuliani neglected Iowa on purpose, so I don't see how the comparison is valid.

Because regardless of him not campaigning in Iowa specifically, he is still leading Nationally? So Ron Paul still beat out the National leader for GOP. Not bad. Of course not great either for his showing in Iowa.

Ignore them. Ron Paul haters have officially surpassed Ron Fans as far as being annoying. They were neck and neck for a long time, but this thread has pushed them over the top.

As for Obama? Maybe you saw it. Simply put: he sounded like a president. The theme was not just change; it was a new unity. And as a black man, he helps heal the past as well as forge the future. This really was history tonight. To win so many white voices, and bring together so many minorities, and use the unifying language that leaves the toxins of race and partisanship behind: This was the moment America stopped being afraid.

I feel the same way.

This kind of meltdown is prohibited outside of specifically designated areas (e.g. Gaming Side, Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD vs. Nobody Cares thread).

Believe it or not, I'm on the winning side in the gaming argument. Nintendo rise to heaven!!! and I also believe that no HD format will win for at least 5 more years! Yay!

Watching

EDIT: This man will be President. Unless he gets shot or something.

It's the first time in almost a decade I've actually felt like I was watching a president. I'm sure there are issues I may disagree with him on and I'm sure that he won't be able to deliver on all he's promising but Jesus Christ is he what America needs.

I'm Canadian but I know that if the US elects Obama, the world will be very proud. People like the US because of its unique qualities, which is why when America does something that goes against those qualities the world hates it so much.

Electing Obama will remind the world that America is still America.

Your optimism is awesome.

On top of that, I guarantee you; when people are proud of their president, and when they believe in their government, everything goes better. People are more inclined to go out and get a job, invest, start businesses, etc.

Bingo. Huckabee can try to claim he is not Bush-like . . . but he's another evangelical GOPer and supports most of the same policies. If you want more of the same, vote Huck.

Damn I can't stop watching this speech.

Obama's speeches always move me, it's incredible.

I just want more people to see the sheer competence of this guy. Obama is definitely my candidate, but Biden deserves more respect than he gets.

No, he deserves less.

Atrus said:
I do hope Biden is retained in some capacity for the coming administration...

Reminds me of James Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Are you people fucking shiting me? Joe Biden is a plagiarist who voted for the Bankruptcy Bill, and blocked Dick Durbin's attempt to add the GI protection amendment, which would have protected soldiers in Iraq from predatory lenders. Why? Because Joe Biden is the senator from Delaware, where many credit card companies are located. It should come as no surprise that Biden ranks 12th place among American politicians when it comes to contributions from credit card companies. The man's a fucking scumbag and it's sad that people fall for his false passion.

Summary of Bankruptcy bill:

The House gave final passage yesterday to legislation intended to make it harder for consumers to wipe out debt through bankruptcy, clearing the way for President Bush to sign the bill into law as he has promised to do.

Lawmakers voted 302 to 126 for the bill, which is identical to a measure the Senate passed last month. It would make the most significant changes to bankruptcy law since 1978. Its passage by Congress is a victory for executives in the credit card, retail and auto financing industries who have pushed it for nearly a decade.

Joe Biden pushes bill through at all costs:

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) -- bowing to pressure from fellow Republicans and to possible retaliation from Democratic Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware -- yesterday said he no longer plans to offer an amendment that threatened to stall bankruptcy legislation being debated in the U.S. Senate.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2789-2005Mar2.html

Background on the GI protection amendment that Biden squashed:

The amendment, known as the G.I. Protection Amendment, has four main provisions: - First, it would protect service members from being dragged into destitution by the predatory practices of extremely high interest rate lenders. It prevents a creditor from recovering in bankruptcy amounts owed on so-called "pay day" loans secured by a personal check for future deposit or electronic access to a bank account...

Third, it would exempt members of the armed services, veterans, and spouses of service members who die in military service from application of the "means test" provisions of the bill. Military families and veterans are facing tough times. They should not have to endure a new right of creditors to harass them in court and subject them to an arbitrary means test.

Seriously, this guys a fucking joke. Even his foreign policy stances are bull considering how big of a hard-on he had for the Iraq invasion circa 2003. Joe Biden is as in-authentic as a politician can be.

:lol You clearly haven't been overseas.

This is probably a bit OT but I don't want to start a complete new thread for it. If I'm registered as an Independent, does anyone know if I'll be able to vote in the California primaries?

OT though, I'm glad Obama and Huckabee won. Only because Obama is my preferred and Huckabee would be the easiest to beat.
