You can own a gun without shooting it.
This country is insane with its love of guns.
That's not really answering the question...
Blind people are not an inherent danger by owning a gun, whereas yelling "fire" in a theater is expressly in the purpose of creating panic.
So I ask again what other constitutional rights should blind people also not be allowed to because of their medical condition?
You can also own a cigarette without smoking it. Cigarettes are still restricted for sale to a certain class of people.

You can own a gun without shooting it.
We don't have a constitutional right to own cigarettes.
My issue isn't the owning of said guns, it is open carry.
Blind person wants to go to a gun range, fine by me. Want to walk into walmart with one..no way.
This law is allowing BLIND PEOPLE TO CARRY GUNS IN PUBLIC. It's in literally the second line. This isn't just about owning them, it's about carrying them around during their day to day lives. If a blind guy wants a civil war-era revolver in a glass case who gives a fuck, but if he wants to carry around a glock when he goes to the market then we should stop him.
I'm just as against open carry as the next guy but I don't agree with restricting blind people just because they are blind.

I understood that referenceI see a world on fire.
Oh lol..that's great.Lmao

Public safety is more important, IMO.
Nothing against the blind but it's a hazard.
And why not? How are they going to aim the gun? They literally cannot see what they are aiming at. If they pull their gun then everyone around them has just been put in danger due to their disability and their idiocy. There have to be practical limits to things.
You have to be trolling, I cannot believe you don't see the issue with letting blind people carry around loaded guns in public.
And things will never change because a sizable percentage of the population thinks that guns are more important than health insurance, help for the poor, solid infrastructure and well-paying jobs. Either that, or they implicitly say so by voting for the conservatives who would place a gun in each of our hands and let the gods sort things out.
America's love affair with its favorite toy gets sadder and sadder by the day.
Open carry is the hazard. It shouldn't be allowed at all, carving out something for the blind is self-defeating because the people who are going to be hitting something are the people who can see they are loading, pointing, and shooting a gun.
No, we don't think guns are more important than some of those other issues. That doesn't mean people are going to suddenly support the government seizing innocent people's property, especially since gun violence has been declining for years.
This defense makes no sense at all.
"We're already allowing something unsafe, so might as well not discriminate and allow something even unsafer!"
I can't see this going wrong.
I don't see how my position is any less sensical than saying "we are already allowing something unsafe so lets do something that doesn't actually make it safer and puts a protected class under a microscope"
At least I'm not here saying open carry makes things safer like proponents of open carry make their position known as.
Blind people can't get driver's licenses--with good reason--but they can get guns?!
/Merikuh logic
I mean, if you want to get technical, blind people can own cars too. They just can't drive them.
"at least my argument isn't as bad as theirs" is how I read that.
Again, not sure how that is a good defense.
My position is "open carry is bad enough, now we're going to even let the blind partake...good lord."
This isn't about rights, this is about being a danger to yourself and your surroundings, even with the best of intentions.
I expect this to happen sooner rather than later...
Explain to me how the blind person will aim the gun to shoot it, unless we let seeing eye dogs do the aiming for them.
Somebody should make a first-person shooter based on this.
I shall provide first concept art:

With self-driving cars on the horizon the idea of blind people "operating" a car solo is now more realistic than issuing a firearm carry license to a blind individual.
Just added some bad guys mixed in with some innocent bystanders:

Guess we should outlaw steak knives to blind people and only let them eat with their hands since they could kill someone with a knife then.
Defense of what exactly? I'm a proponent of getingt rid of open carry completely, and that would include it for the blind if you really need it pointed out. It's a futile exercise IMO to only ban open carry for a small group of people (3 people in a whole state) when it should be for everyone.
I don't agree with denying rights to protected classes. It should be a blanket ban.
