iPad/iPhone Music Production app thread

So, I did a test recording with Garage Band, a knockoff USB camera kit and a Behringer UFO202 (it's the same as the other Behringer USB cards but it has a preamp if you need to record low-level) but there are two things that bugged me about it:

1) The left channel was VERY iffy and scratchy. It didn't come in until about 7s after recording and after that it was spasmodic with just how much it wanted to output (if anything at all... with the majority being scratchy). Any ideas? I haven't tested the USB card on my PC, but I doubt it'd be that.

2) Kept getting "This device is not a supported accessory". Is it talking about the connection kit or the sound card? I don't know if it's the latter or not because when I press OK, the light goes out on the USB device. Could be a knockoff camera thing, I dunno.

And are there any other apps that are better than Garage Band? I cleared up about 400mb of bloat by deleting the example track and all the included loops, but I'd rather just have something I can fire up and press record instead of changing the timing and disabling the metronome and changing the input from "left" to "stereo" each time. It's a PITA.

This might be applicable for some people here, at least, those of us who are looking at recording stuff on their iOS device:
StudioMini

Apparently works on iPhone with the Camera Connection Kit (USB thing) without jailbreaking (not that it worries me, but could affect others here). For $5, I'm miffed I didn't think to look for it before I jumped on Garage Band.

Edit: When I went to look at the diagrams for the software, it doesn't show an iPhone, just an iPad. Shot them an email asking, so will update here what the go is.

Shit, I should pick up iPad production again! Favourite app so far is iElectribe. Discovered most of my apps through this awesome thread.

Eager to try iMPC and Samplr (downloaded). Audiobus seems like a must, but maybe a tad expensive?

I find myself always thinking 5-10 euro's is much for an app. I guess it's a steal though.

I'm a little confused about MIDI clocks and Audiobus.

When I add Reason and iMS-20 as Inputs and start sequences on them they don't automatically start/stop together or BPM sync. I thought Audiobus would take care of MIDI timing - is there something I need to configure?

You need to set it up in the output app

Edit: I dont know if iMS-20 works though. I can't get it to sync in Loopy. iElectribe will sync though.

I recently picked up a Gear4 PocketLoops midi keyboard. It comes with a free iOS app.

Now, this is just a toy. The keyboard is clicky and cheap, and it has no function apart from the app, with no power supply or audio-out save for the iPhone or Touch. But, it has been a lot of fun making loops. I put on headphones and zone out making noise. I found it at TJ Maxx for $23 and it was easily worth that.

Its pretty useless if you cant use it with other apps.

NI just released iMaschine 2 today and it's $5 in the app store until Dec 1st. I've been playing around with it for a little bit on my iPad and what I've seen and heard is pretty cool. This won't replace Beatmaker 2 for me but it has audiobus support which is nice, I assume it has IAA too.

Hey interesting timing, I fired up iMaschine 1 a week or so ago to see how much it had been improved and it hadn't.

I bought Korg Gadget instead and I can't get over how good the workflow and sound are, truly shocked. I haven't touched my DAW since getting it. Can't imagine Maschine 2 will compete but I'll check it out for sure.

I don't know much about Maschine... is it more a sequencer/drum pad than a synth?

I LOVE Gadget's sounds. Truly the best I've heard in a iOS DAW so far. I'm too accustomed to the workflow of Beatmaker 2 and iMPC though so I haven't used it too much. iMaschine 2 is supposed to be an improvement over 1 but I don't know how, I never bothered with iMaschine until today. They added step sequencing I know that.

DAW. It's got a massive library of sounds. You can buy 36 packs for the price of 1 right now.

EDIT: you can sample from your iTunes library too. I'm going to have fun with this.
