Glad it's got a boost over the iPhone 5's battery life.
Are you serious? I hope this is sarcasm. It has been known for months that the iphone will be updated now because it it yearly tradition, and the date of the event has been known for 1-2 weeks.
Happens when you don't even try and see if there's going to be a recent Apple event.

I.. hope you're not serious. They announced that they were having a major standalone announcement event on September 10th quite a while ago, so I don't know why you would buy one of their products right before that date.

I still think I'm going to go with the 5S, mainly because I don't want to go back to plastic (had a 3GS back in the day), but they sure do look damn good.

this phone is not aimed at expanding that market, though. This is really just a way to get a new iphone at the $100 price on contract, instead of selling last year’s model for $100.

This thing probably costs Apple >$100 less to make than the iPhone 5, yet it costs the same the iPhone 5 would have costed if it hadn't been replaced by the 5C. Sure, $99 sounds $100 cheaper than the 5S but in reality after two years of paying for the service in a 2-year contract it's probably less than 5% cheaper than getting a 5S.
I eagerly await the Anandtech review. I suspect they also cut corners with the display like they do with the iPod touch.

Sorry if I sound dumb, but what does it mean when you buy a phone without contract? You still get the monthly bill, but can upgrade at any time?
Your contract is cheaper, but your new phone is expensive. I pay 15-20€ per month, but have to pay full price for my phone.
Yeah, the US carriers have huge subsidies on the phones, but in most countries this is not the case. When you have to pay $400+ and that still gets you locked in a 2 year contract, buying an unlocked phone is much more appealing.
Yeah, a company hyping up a product at their own press conference, what an outrage.
