iPhone 8 reportedly won’t come with Touch ID

cant wait to see what apple does on tuesday.. hearing that it has no touch id and is going to be delayed initially really sucks.. but ive been LOVING my s8+ for the past 3-4 months

why dont people understand it wont be just missing with nothing to replace it? FaceID is supposedly a lot more secure and better.

With little information right now i can give the benefit of the doubt that itll be more secure. It being better in a user experience case, that is a fucking hard sell.

On second thought, it cannot be more secure either.

I still don't understand how it can be more secure. Its gotta be convenient enough that you just pick up the phone and it works. In that case how can it possibly stop someone picking up your phone next to you.

Yup i agree, the apple can do no wrong lovers got to me.

They make the user experience easier, and security fails. They make it too secure, the experience sucks. Its just impossible to have both better.

I’ll hear them out tuesday though.

Hey everyone who is "out because of recent developments/speculation/leaks" or whatever? Can you do me a favor and stay out? It'll make it easier for me to preorder.

Thanks!

:)

Apple could force you to unlock your phone with your butt cheeks and the fanboys would still defend it. It's 2017 and apple fanboys are still the worst.

It is supposed to be more secure in the sense that it's harder for someone to make a correct 3d print of your head with the color print of your face on it, than to make a fake finger with your fake fingerprint on it. I get that. However, it seems less safe in the sense that someone can much more easily trick an unlock by pointing a phone towards you, than they can trick you to press the fingerprint sensor.

Thats exactly what i meant

But spreading ignorance about how it will (or will not) work before giving Apple the chance to explain the concept is much better, right?
But hey, 2017 etc etc...

Whats worse is apple could possibly remove a essential feature (which could end up being a bullshit rumour) but you still have fanboys jumping around and defending it before apple have announced anything.

No...people who troll Apple threads trying to ruin something for people are the worst.
If they enjoy their iPhones who are you to spoil that for them?

I use touchid all the time to pay for Apple Pay - I'd feel a right idiot bending my face over my phone when paying for the transactions.

I mean you're looking at the phone already. Why would you have to bend?

Anyway I guess if it's as accurate as TouchID it's fine but this is so weird. How do you not figure this shit out way in advance?

You often aren't looking directly at it. Eg just reaching out to a store contactless pad the phone is basically at arms length and pointing at the ceiling

Now apparently it'll work at wide angles. But then wouldn't it too easily unlock if someone near you picked it up?

I'm curious how this will work and sceptical that it'll be as smoothly integrated as touchID. But people will probably accept it initially because woo face recognition. And then later when the honeymoon has worn off, they'll have adjusted to its foibles

Who would get an iPhone 8 this year when you know Touch ID will be back on next year's model? I can't imagine going without Touch ID at this point and I can't wait to see how they spin this.

I'm sure there are tons of people who don't know what's new or missing with every new model and just upgrade on a 2 year cycle regardless as well as people who just buy the new one every year because they're massive fans.

I think most “fanboys” are taking the wait-and-see approach. As in, why rail against an unannounced feature before you know anything concrete about it? Being mad as your default state seems unhealthy

Because there’s no guarantee that it will be back on the next model

This.

The whole "apple fanboys suck amirite" shit is a plague. It's way more prevalent and annoying than anything else. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a real 'fanboy'.

Just stfu. You're too smart and unique to buy an iPhone. We get it.

I look forward to the on stage demos of FaceID. They better cover all bases. Like said, twins will be necessary. Extreme angles will be necessary. If not Apple then the reviewers will have to fill in the gaps afterwards.

The anti-Apple trolls are among the most annoying posters on the internet. Honestly I use to be one long ago back in my Android days. I was so anti-Apple that I have actually purchased 3 Zunes in my lifetime. Looking back I don't even know why I was anti-. That said I finally switched with the 4s and never looked back. Never once have I trolled Android users since switching, and I think they have some great phones. That said for some people, no matter what, Apple sucks yadda yadda yadda. It is on the same level as console fanboys to me.

Also to be clear I do have issues with some of the rumors about the 8 (including this). Still I don't make judgements until after the conference. Worst case I keep my 7+ and wait for the 8S in hopes they add it back. If they don't add it back or things continue to get worse I might switch to a Pixel in a couple of years. That said if I did I will not judge or troll people who stick with Apple (or leave if I stay).

No there's no evidence yet, maybe it is, maybe it isn't. We don't know yet. What's weird though is that you say its not better while also saying I'm the one who needs to provide evidence.

With the current rumors of it being able to see you even when flat on a table (you could look just at your phone and it lights up to show you your notifications), I can see that being pretty damn good for user experience.

Lets assume this is true. How is that more secure? You lay your phone on a table, it is unlocked as you say, someone swipes it.

I'm pretty sure it won't just unlock when it sees your face. You'll still have to press the faux home button to activate it.

Probably.

Who knows.

Bet money that facial pictures will unlock your shit.
How much? I'll take your bet.

This will be 3d face mapping, I guarantee a flat picture won't work. Apple is only leaving Touch ID out because it thinks this is ready now. Otherwise they would have just put Touch ID on the back of the no home version. We saw the prototypes.

Every time that I've ever used Apple Pay, I'm looking down at the screen to make sure it goes through. I would imagine you wouldn't have to comically hunch forward to activate the face ID unless you're over 6'5" in which case you may already be reaching low for the counter.

It wouldn't unlock from a table, it'd just show you the lock screen, I'd assume you'd have to be a close distance for it to unlock. Look idk how exactly it will work but if Apple is doing it you can be sure they'll make it seamless and very secure, they aren't stupid

If it requires anything less than an arm's reach, then that's a downgrade.

Apple can do no wrong. Got it.
