Solo man, go listen to Beast over the Hammersmith from Eddie's Archives if you want to hear 100% prime bruce sing, his vocals are completely godly in that performance, Live After Death was recorded at the very end of that tour, and bruce even admits that his voice was pretty shot by the end of the tour, i don't think its his best vocal performance by any means, he sounds better on rock in rio lol

Admittedly, I am looking at LAD from more of a guitar perspective when I say its the peak.

yacobod said:
ya basically said the same thing in my stealth edit above, ya if you don't have eddie's archives, definately seak out Beast over hammersmith by other means if necessary, bruce's vocals are phenomenal on here, the live versions of Children of the Damned and 22 Acacia Avenue are godly

Indeed. I quite like Rock in Rio and Maiden Japan too, and even A Real Live Dead One has its moments, but Live at Donington.. Yikes, is that bad. The band definitely sounds bored and lifeless. Bruce sounds like he'd rather be at home, ramming knitting needles in his eyes, than be on a stage with Maiden ever again.

Edit: And the Live at Donington video is even worse, with its strange slow motion and black and white sequences :lol

I didn't like Can I Play With Madness until maybe 1997 or something and even then not by that much.

I love playing it in Rock Band though.

(Disappointing) set list from Dallas:

Iron Maiden:
01.The Wicker Man
02.The Ghost of the Navigator
03.Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
04.El Dorado
05.Paschendale
06.The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
07.These Colours Don't Run
08.Blood Brothers
09.Wildest Dreams
10.No More lies

11.Brave New World
12.Fear of the Dark
13.Iron Maiden
Encore:
14.Number of the Beast
15.Hallowed Be Thy Name
16.Running Free

Bolded are ones I have no interest in hearing :(
But since they pretty much never change the setlist, thats what those of us who are seeing the tour will be hearing.

On a positive note, Im absolutely creaming my pants over finally getting to hear Wicker Man and Ghost of the Navigator live, as well as Paschendale. They obviously weren't kidding when they said this concert would have a heavy focus on recent material!

Hmmm. . . I may just get lawn tickets for this one.

I definitely want to hear some of the new stuff performed live though. Old school fan as I am, some of the new catalogue has grown on me through the years.

Why would they play trash like Ghost of the Navigator live? It's such a terrible song, the only thing worse on BNW was The Fallen Angel. Brighter Than a Thousand Suns sucks ass too, come to think of it. Same goes for their namesake ditty.

Edit: I do approve of Wicker Man, Running Free, Fear of the Dark, Brave New World, Blood Brothers and No More Lies though.

Edit II: These Colours Don't Run is asstastic too.

Iron Maiden and Running Free are awesome songs man, what the fuck are you smoking?

Neither are very good songs. But I could live with hearing them if they hadnt been played to death for 25 years. Id rather see Phantom of the Opera, Killers, Murders in the Rue Morgue, or Sanctuary if they had to mine the first two albums. At least they didnt play Wrathchild.

I was really hoping for Poweslave or Infinite Dreams or Stranger In A Strange Land or Rime :(

Sanctuary? Really?

Killers and Murders in the Rue Morgue would be great though. Or even Twilight Zone, which is a criminally underrated song.

man that setlist sucks dick to be honest, massive fail

now i'm on the fence if i want to see them again this summer, like TToB said, i may just get lawn seats and save some money

bruce doesnt really sing the dianno songs very well imo, i could do away with most of that material as performed by him

I do think he did a fairly good job on them back in the day, but his voice isn't really suited to the Di'Anno songs (or the Bayley songs, for that matter) anymore. True dat. Still, I'd take a half-botched version of a Di'Anno song over any of the tripe from AMoLaD.

Solo said:
Its about on the same level as Running Free and IM, but hasnt been overplayed to the degree that those two have.

True enough, but Sanctuary and Iron Maiden have always been genuinely terrible songs, unlike Running Free.

Edit: Forgot about Prowler. Fuck yeah, Prowler. Awesome song.

05.Paschendale
11.Brave New World
12.Fear of the Dark
14.Number of the Beast
15.Hallowed Be Thy Name

These are the ones I want to see. So...only half of the setlist :(

Hype levels for the concert is down 60% after seeing that set list

I guess you have to look at it from Maiden's perspective. They just did a year long tour with nothing but the classics on it. This tour is about the new stuff. If you hate the new stuff, then this isnt the tour for you. Wait until the next tour.

They've only been yo our city once before, so there isn't that many chances. That was on the A Matter of Life and Death tour, so they only played new stuff then as well. Looks like Maiden hates our city..

There are pics of the new Eddie floating around, although I'm not sure I should post them so as to spoil it for those who will be seeing them on the new tour

Iron Maiden - 2 songs
Killers - 0 songs
The Number of the Beast - 2 songs
Piece of Mind - 0 songs
Powerslave - 0 songs
Somewhere in Time - 0 songs
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - 0 songs
No Prayer for the Dying - 0 songs

Fear of the Dark - 1 song
The X Faxtor - 0 songs
Virtual XI - 0 songs

Brave New World - 4 songs
Dance of Death - 3 songs
A Matter of Life and Death - 3 songs
The Final Frontier - 1 song

Thats a fucking ballsy setlist :lol NO songs from Piece of Mind through Seventh Son.

Let's just say he looks like a Predator covered in moss :lol

Not surprising, Bruce hates SiT :( Makes me so sad.

Killer set list, in my humble opinion of course. . )

Personally, i love all the songs, great to hear Wicker man live again! To long ago...

If it just could be closer to the festival here in Sweden. " sad "

Great day to you all,

yacobod said:
hates it because he doesnt have any song writing credits on the album :lol

I don't think it was due to that, but Bruce apparently wanted SiT to be completely different from what they'd done before, so he wrote a bunch of folksy, acoustic Jethro Tull-like stuff, and presented it for Steve, who promptly told Bruce to fuck off :lol So his dislike was apparently more due to it being 'just another' Maiden album without anything really new.

How can that be true when SiT is the biggest departure musically Maiden has made? The guitar synths introduced in SiT and then used again on SSOASS are about as off the beaten path as Maiden ever went.

Don't ask me, but IIRC it's even mentioned in the official band biography, and it's always been the 'official' explanation for Bruce's dislike for SiT. And while the guitar synths did indeed take them off the beaten path, Bruce wanted to do an all acoustic folk album or something :lol

After a six month break, of which Dickinson spent a great deal indulging in his favorite sport, fencing, Maiden was about to start writing for a new album. “When it came to writing for a new album, whenever I started to write very ‘eavy metal things, I found I was thinking along these lines, you know, ‘I should do one of these, one of those.’ So I ended up writing a lot of different things instead for bagpipes, folk things, stuff like Jethro Tull. Bang went my royalties.” Though Somewhere in Time marked a departure for the band, introducing keyboards and a cleaner Progressive Rock influenced sound, Dickinson was unhappy with the effort, and has no writing credits.

:(

I completely understand their urge to play stuff from their other albums after the Somewhere Back in Time tour... but man. I won't deny that Piece of Mind and Somewhere in Time are far and away my fave Maiden albums and not a single track off of them bums me out a bit.

That said, still going. :D

Where are you seeing them? Im seeing them (outdoors) in Toronto. Cant wait, even with the less than stellar track listing. They were incredible in 2008 on the SBiT tour.

Solo said:
I actually thought Maiden used the synths quite well

They did. SiT and SSoaSS are my two fave Maiden albums.

yacobod said:
see i told you it all comes down to him not having any song credits lol

Well, OK, but I'd still argue that it wasn't really due to him not having any song credits, but due to the others not agreeing to do that weird album he wanted to do :lol

That said, Bruce has always been more willing to experiment than Steve. Have you heard 'No Way Out.. Continued' from his sessions with Keith Olsen? I love the song, but it's completely different from anything else he's done, as it sounds more like some sort of 80s alternative pop song than heavy metal :lol

I saw them play Sanctuary last tour and it wasn't good. Running Free is better and the crowed section is far more entertaining than the one in Sanctuary.

I would love to see Innocent Exile from Dianno's era.

I can't believe that's the actual setlist. I'm going with a group to see the show, and one dude only cares about seeing the Trooper. Ugh.

Camden NJ is the gig we decided on, as the next closest one is 3 or so hours away. Should be a damn blast, even with the less than jism worth setlist. :D

The lack of classics is a bit disappointing but on the other hand I'm all for songs I've never heard live before, which is most of the set. And since I loved all 3 post reunion albums these songs are all good.

Maybe not Wildest Dreams that song suck, wish they went with Journeymen instead. And I love the 1st half of Ghost so I don't mind it.

BTW this is Dream Theater's set if anyone cares.

-As I am
-A Rite Of Passage
-Home
-Constant Motion
-Panic Attack
-Pull Me Under

No Shattered Fortress in DT's set make me sad, and only one song from pre-Rudes albums, that kinda suck and they picked an OK song too, there's at least 5 better songs than Pull Me Under from that album alone.

I don't know if they did that to go with Maiden's set, I mean playing songs from 1999 and onward and only one from the classics.

Well, that set list is ok. DT is one of the few bands that I really enjoy that I've never seen, so it relieves me to hear I might be able to hear Pull Me Under at the very least. They change their setlists pretty regularly though, so I won't get my hopes up.

Also, Home is awesome.

I rather hear something like Take The Time or Learning to Live (This one is awesome live). But you got a point that they change their list almost every night, though don't know if they do that when they are opening.

I've never seen them live too :( hopefully soon.

Well to be fair I've never seen them live, so most of the sings you're sick of I have yet to hear while at the concert. So it's understandable if you don't want to hear them again.

Yeah, I'm going to see DT/IM on Saturday and both setlists are pretty weak, DT's in particular. I guess since they're only playing 45 minutes or so as an opening act they feel the need to play the "singles". Still I'd have to think pretty hard to find a handful of songs that I'm less interested in them playing.

04.El Dorado
05.Dance Of Death
06.The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg

13.Iron Maiden
Encore:
14.The Number of the Beast

Bolded are the swaps. Im quite curious now to see if theres just 2 rotations they will jump back and forth to, or if they really are gonna change things nightly.
