Is Battlefield 4 the worst thing EA has ever done to their customers?

Until gamers as a whole start to punish EA for their mistakes they will continue to get more egregious, more arrogant, more dishonest and more incompetent.
People need to practice self-control and not get won over by the hype of "the next big thing from EA".
It only leads to disappointment.

At this point I've learned my lesson. Never buy EA games Day 1. Never buy games with always-online requirements within the first month, if ever.

Yup, never again. I'll be buying used EA games from now on if I really need to play them.

Even if you pre-ordered the game to get the free China Rising DLC, you're not allowed to play it for two weeks unless you pay them $50.

What? Fuck that.

Origin was the worst

How is Origin bad at all? It works fine.

I don't get GAF's obsession with EA and how "bad" they are. Yes, BF4 is buggy but they are constantly patching the game. It's not like they put it out there and stopped supporting it.

Game industry overall:

Ilum in SWTOR
Buying the NFL license for MADDEN, killing off NFL2k
NBA Live's existence
Buying the Star Wars license
Sim City
FIFA hack vulnerabilities
Origin

My thoughts exactly this is just one more nail in there coffin...

Well, because they want people to pay an extra $50 to be a Premium member so they can get the DLC. Even if you pre-ordered the game to get the free China Rising DLC, you're not allowed to play it for two weeks unless you pay them $50.
lol wat

That's hilarious and sad.

Don't forget Madden! For all you non-sports playing gamers who are starting to notice EA and other game companies arbitrarily cutting out basic features of your favorite games ... Madden is where this practice began!

Battlefield is at least playable and is awesome when it works. Honestly, they're lucky as hell that it is or else everyone would be gone by now, but still, it does work some / most of the time.

Works most of the time for me on PS4, apparently some crash constantly, even on PS4, but for a lot it doesn't. Several hours a night and usually only 1-2 crashes at this point. And at least it saves the MP points / unlocks you achieve in MP.

Repeating, that's the only thing saving their asses right now. The fact that it's awesome when it works and it mosly works in MP (which is the main reason people get it).

So Simcity tops it pretty easily.

They're definitely getting a black eye from it, though. I'd have gotten Premium if the damned thing had no issues.

Honestly, though, the bigger crime is only Polygon even ripping them for it. They should be getting hit by more places.

(Still buying Star Wars Battlefield when it comes out).

This, a million times. Stop buying EA games. It's a shame Titanfall and Mirror's Edge 2 are EA games, because that shit is getting rented, for me.

This kinda shit is why, while they obviously aren't the "worst company in America" they are absolutely the worst company in the games business.

Sim City is far, far worse

I think the main difference is that you at least knew what you were getting yourself into with SimCity. The always-online situation with it was known well before release, and everyone knew how rough those games usually are. There was no way of knowing that Battlefield would be this broken as that's never been the case with the series before. It's had rough edges, but nothing to this extent.

Do you order a burger with the works and patiently wait for them to give you a patty and 2 buns and every once in a while come in and add ingredients you wanted? Point out the patty is half cooked and wait for it to be done? Notice mold on the buns and smile it's okay?

BF4 is a great game that was a mess at launch. At least for me, I haven't had any issues for a few weeks on PC.

So no.

Dragon Age 2 is up there.

I am so tired of this. Play it on PC. Its perfectly fine there. Game has problem, but it is not the travesty people claim it is. Its still better than 90% of the RPGs released on the market, its just not the near perfection of DA:O

He probably means Origin the legendary game company that made Wing Commander.

The game was released on PC, and was plagued with constant crashing. You couldn't even finish a single online match without it crashing. Nothing was fixed for a month
Well people could finish matches without crashing. I remember I went about 6 matches before I got my first one.

And they were repairing things well before 'a month'.

Now, China Rising, the first DLC comes out. The base game still is a complete trainwreck of constant crashes and single player corruption, yet they're still pushing out the DLC. Why?

Well, because they want people to pay an extra $50 to be a Premium member so they can get the DLC. Even if you pre-ordered the game to get the free China Rising DLC, you're not allowed to play it for two weeks unless you pay them $50.
Because the DLC was already in production. I think I'm pretty safe in assuming that the people in charge of creating maps and whatnot are not the same people in charge of netcode and servers and all that jazz that seems to be fussing things up.

I'm all for being upset at the debacle that has been the BF4 launch, but it would be nice if people could not exaggerate the issues and attack with valid criticisms. Its probably very easy for developers to gloss over 'internet ragers' when it comes to listening to constructive criticism because they are rightfully not to be taken seriously.

It was a rushed mess with 4 copy and pasted areas and every choice meant absolutely nothing. It was bad.

I bought every Battlefield for the pc around the release date, big fan of the games, Battlefield 4 takes the cake on delivering a bad experience during and way after the launch.

I think it's reasonable and understandable to have a week after the launch date that things might not go so smoothly but damn I wish I could get my money back since I have not been able to play a proper match and totally don't even have the motivation anymore to play it again.

The product that they released is disrespectful to the players and long time fans of the series.

Nah, that game is hot garbage.

Joke is on those who buy it.

You're telling me. I bought early at a reasonable price ($50 flat, new), but it's gone on sale for less since then and I haven't bothered to play it because of all of the issues. I've been trying to sell it at my cost, but no takers due to the aforementioned sales and price memory. Looks like I'm stuck with it for the time being.

DICE has a history of their shit being broken at launch. It's now just being paired with EA business practices. And what you get in result is the BF4 launch.

It's clear as day that this game had no business being released when it was. It needed more time. When I pay you 60 dollars I expect a game that WORKS.

SimCity was definitely worse, though.

Honestly I can't think of many EA games I've bought recently that haven't had issues.

Sim City was by far the worst, and biggest disaster. Waste of money since I have yet to play it again since a couple weeks after launch....

SWTOR was a launch nightmare to with not enough servers and pre-server assignments of guilds was just a guarantee you would be on a crowded server. Probably part of the reason the game lost interest so fast was the lack of ability to get on servers your friends were on. Not to count the lack of content after reaching max level.

BF4 is the most recent and probably the biggest disappointment since it is a sequel and they dealt with a lot of these issues in BF3. Game just feels rushed in that no bug testing or in depth testing was done. I had it on 360, upgraded to XB1 and the issues are worse. I randomly get kicked to the home screen, sound randomly works, latency in the game seems worse even though I'm showing a 40-50 ms latency.

DA2 was a long time ago, and I think that had more to do with Bioware than EA. I've also come to terms with the game and that it is what it is.

Only positive for me has been ME3, which the ending kinda ruined the fun for awhile until I learned to deal with it, but the multiplayer was a pleasant surprise.

Said it before. DICE is very talented and they are better off without EA. The main team needs to leave straight the fuck away and make a new shootbang that is strictly MP with a new pub that allows DICE to reach their vision without compromise.

EA is horrible. I won't be purchasing another BF ever, sadly. Shit is a joke. Just look at Dead Space. How did we get from INCREDIBLE to DS3? They are bad for gaming, period.

Its a shame really, given that the game is so much fun online. I wont touch single player until they confirm a fix for it though. It corrupts every time.

The game is so amazing when it works. They had a real shot at being the online shooter king with most people tired of COD (at least on my friends list), but the instability is killing it. :(

Ive logged quite a number of hours on it though. I cant get enough.

Sim City is, but this isn't too far behind

Objectively, this is probably the case. As bad as BF4 is in its current state, at least we can play.

TitanFall is going to be fun...

Titanfall IP isn't owned or controller by EA, they are only the publishing arm of that franchise and they have no control over the actual development.

EA Partners is set up in such a way to publish a title with little influence from EA, but they also receive significantly less money from EA for development.

But they HAD TO get that shit out before COD drops!

I would complain, but it dropped to like 30$ on Origin pretty recently and the game just came out, so lesson learned don't be an early adopter for EA titles. A little tweaking and I have running pretty stable on PC now, it's a blast beside the inconsistent netcode, something DICE has struggled with in terms of recent titles.

EA works off the principle "There's a sucker born every minute".

Fortunately for EA, their "customers" keep coming back to buy their titles year after year. The BF4 customers will complain a bit, but then will line up to buy BF5. As soon as they buy BF5, they will begin salivating about BF6. It doesn't matter what EA delivers, they will buy it.

It was a rushed mess with 4 copy and pasted areas and every choice meant absolutely nothing. It was bad.

Great it repeats a few environments, the characters were still excellent, combat was much improved on PC and the story was still very entertaining. Environments and inventory were rushed. Its by no means a piece of garbage.

Yeah, pretty much. Buying this sends all the wrong signals to EA and they'll have no reason to make sure BF5 goes smoother. Shit like this makes me glad I only usually play games for their SP content.

You do realize that the game crashes and erases your single player save when playing single player as well, right?

There's no way I'm buying another Battlefield game when it comes out. The Xbox One getting content first is also a spit in my face. I paid for the game just as people did with the Xbox version. I want my content when they get theirs. There's no excuse other than greed.

I don't own BF4 but is it still broken? I remember SimCity worked just fine for me after the first horrible week.

The worst thing EA has ever done to its customers is far worse. They take dedicated devs that make great products and sap the life blood out of them until they are empty husks that whither and die. Origin, Bullfrog, Westwood Studios, Bioware, Maxis and now DICE. All devs that made games that hardcore gamers loved now dead or about to die. Sad really.

Every battlefield launch is a clusterfuck but it ussually has to do with servers being overloaded. Thus seems like a whole nother level of issues. Glad I didn't bother.
