Is coconut oil legit?

I live in LA so I hear a lot of new age quackery regarding miracle foods.

One that had been popping up lately is coconut oil.

I've heard the following claims:

1 - mix it with your coffee and it makes you shit because it revitalizes intestinal muscular health.

2 - great for hair.

3 - great for skin

4 - boost immune system.

There is no way this stuff is that legit. What's the deal.

It just has good fats, and good fats are good for your skin/hair/connective tissues because that's what they're made of. Same with avocado and other nuts. That's all.

Don't overthink it.

But the caffeine actually does relax your muscles that control your bowels making it easier to go number two.
So if I take a caffeine pill I'm going to poop? Doubt that, like I'm saying the overwhelming factor is the volume of liquid literally pushing out the waste. The other things while helpful are minor factors.

As for helping the immune system, I read a paper showing that memory T cells undergo metabolic reprogramming to use fatty acid oxidation rather than glycolsis, but the same paper showed that memory T cells do not acquire fatty acids from the environment but rather synthesize their own lipids from glucose, so this could not help in that regard(Paper was: Memory CD8+ T cells use Cell-Intrinsic Lipolysis to Support the Matobolic Programming Necessary for Development). Effector T cells apparently uptake more exogenous fatty acids, but mostly rely on glucose for metabolism through glycolysis (Emerging concepts of T cell metabolism as a target of immunotherapy). So basically, I do not see how this would help the immune system much from a T cell perspective, but maybe someone could find something that shows how it would affect other cells in the immune system.

Dunno about the other things listed, but shitting as a result of adding it to your coffee is probably because coffee is a diuretic. When I used to drink coffee it would make me need a shit within the first few sips. Lol.
I was gonna say the same thing.. lol. Coffee does that already.

Even if the claims in general were true, it would be pretty simple to figure out precisely which chemicals in the oil are providing the benefit, only to find out we already have a pretty good intake of those substances anyway from other foods.

What? Almost all liquid is going to get absorbed in your colon, it's not going to "push" any waste immediately.

There is a slight effect of causing you to feel like you need to go with any food intake called the "Gastrocolic reflex" caused by any distention of your stomach.

Caffeine, however, has specific properties that make you piss and poop (separate than just being a volume you put in your GI tract).

A warm liquid does relax those muscles making it a bit more noticeable and easier to go.

Sure, coffee mainly makes you poop because people drink it first thing in the morning very commonly after having all that digested food over night. Replace that with water and you'd have the same results.

It's not the caffeine, decaf coffee has the same effect, so it's actually something else in coffee iirc.

and ime hemp seed oil is the best for skin, coconut oil is a bit too heavy.

"Is Coconut oil awesome?"
"Well, here's why you're wrong about the mechanics of dropping dirt"

This is now a thread about not knowing shit about shitting.

Yeah, it's not really the caffeine.
There are all types of extra minerals in coffee that help with the process. Or at least one of them is doing it.

The idea of simply drinking water as a volume liquid to push digested food out is laughable.

You can definitely use water to clear your colon but in a very different manner:

It's not nearly as easy a sip from a cup.

Secret ingredient in Target popcorn

Yeah, that and this stuff (http://www.popcornsupply.com/flavacol-butter-flavored-seasoned-salt) and you have legit movie theater popcorn.

It helps with infections too. When I got my wisdom teeth pulled, my sockets got infected and it tasted like death. I tried gurgling saltwater and mouthwash for about a week with no luck. Then I finally listened to my girlfriend and tried warm coconut oil and it was gone the next day. Tasted pretty good too.

I put it in my hair after every shower. It's amazing. I use raw coconut oil. Looks like this and melts in your hand almost immediately.

Coconut oil for shaving the beard is amazing. It can get bit messy but once you learn that less is more you will undoubtedly get the best shave of your life. I use it all the time.

It's why I love coffee after waking up. Stretch, check e-mail, sip coffee, take the big morning dump.

I love to use it cooking scrambled eggs. Surprised how much it added to the flavour.

All the "health" stuff is probably bullshit, as most of them are.

I had no idea it was used as a body product and I supposed some people don't know its for cooking either because while I was at sprouts picking up a jar there were 2 African American girls looking at the jars and when I reached for one and mentioned how great potatoes and other veggies taste with it they said out loud to me with the most surprised look ever "Wait, you can cook with it1?"

I used coconut oil for sexual lubricant while my wife was pregnant so now the smell of coconut just makes me want to bang my wife.
