Is Dexter final season the WORST in TV history?

I seem to be in the minority in that I actually really enjoyed season 5. I loved Lumen, and viewed the season as a romance. :p But then the season finale happened. Dexter was a show I watched with a particular friend, and after that episode, I turned to her and said, "What was that? Okay, I'm worried now. I have a bad feeling this show is about to go downhill. All of a sudden, I'm not seeing how this show will continue to be good." I was being dramatic, she said. And so we went on to season 6...

...after that first episode, we felt like we were in the twilight zone. We loved Dexter. Her desktop background was of Dexter. We had just seen seasons 1-5, and more or less loved it all! What the fuck had we just watched? Our minds were blown in a horrible way. It was surreal to see how low Dexter had fallen. I was proven correct. And we dropped the show entirely right there.

Recently, though, I picked it back up with someone else. Now that I've baked mediocrity into my expectations, season 6 is at least bearable. And I'm glad I'll be around to see how the show ends. I'm really, really surprised with season 8's portrayal here, though...is it really worse than 6?

lmao

That's happened at least a few times in season 6, too. "He's no amateur," said word for word, over the stupidest things.

Really sucks to hear. When I finished season 2, it ended so beautifully and wrapped up everything so well that I couldn't bring myself to watch season 3. I was worried that they may go too weird, or off in a strange direction, or fuck something up. I hate it when shows fall off in their twilight.

NO you must watch season 3 and 4. Personally season 4 was probably my favorite, but you can't go wrong with seasons 1-4. Just make sure not to watch anything after that.

Yes, it's absolutely awful. The worst. I quit watching and even reading about it to see if it got better is dreadful. I'm disappointed.

Alright cool I'll check those out! Like I said, the way 2 ended felt so complete, but if 4 is that great then I think I'll power through those two seasons for it ^^

Yeah try to enjoy both of them, because it's some great tv. It's sad to see the falloff after season 4 though. :(

I stopped watching about three episodes into the season with Ray Stevenson. I was only watching it for Ray Stevenson at that point, just like in the previous season I was only interested because Edward James Olmos was in it (and Colin Hanks to a certain extent). The show's never captured me in the same way since the culmination of the Trinity Killer storyline and Rita's death because that was a fucked up way to end a season and I don't think Dexter's reaction was appropriate. That should have sent shockwaves through that show, rocked it to the core. Instead it was like the writers went "alright, next storyline I guess".

I do think the show is one of those shows that's a brilliant concept, it's just outstayed its welcome. I watched from the very first episode and it was interesting, tense television. Over the years they added even more twists, fucked up rivals and situations, but when I stopped watching it had all worn very thin. The stories are either treading over old ground at this point or they're becoming increasingly convoluted.

I'm upset Breaking Bad will be ending but I'm also delighted because they seem to know where they're going and they've been building to it for a while. Same reason I loved The Shield, it all seemed to build to the amazing final episode. Those shows went out with a bang whereas Dexter's been limping along for a while.

This season can't end soon enough, but me and my wife have invested the first 7 seasons in this, so we're going to see it through to the end.

Worst part of the show is how lazy, clumsy and sloppy Dexter has become at his 'art'. The first season he would have multiple contingencies and fail-safes on hand in case his killing procedures took a wrong turn.

Now, he M99s his quarries in broad daylight, breaks into homes with little regard for stealth and leaves damning evidence all over the place.

Thank goodness for him it's Miami Metro we're dealing with here, otherwise Dexter would have been caught long ago.

Dexter being meticulous about his kills was thrown out the window such a long time ago. I think it was last year he just stabs some guy in the heart at a shooting range in broad daylight, I mean what the fuck
It wasn't even a spur of the moment thing

Yeah, and he followed a dude around an airport. A building that arguably has some of the most cameras and security in the world.

Its so fucking sad what's happened to this show.

Even in the weak spots of 1-5, I'd be a defender and chime in with 'at least Michael C Hall is trying to make the best of it' but even that's gone to pot.

Hell even after the dark days of S6 of 24, at least Kiefer got it together and rose above the weak spots of S7 and S8 to give that show a fitting closure - forthcoming mini series not withstanding.

Dexters just...whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyy

Remember the second episode in the second season, where some gang member uses a video of him holding up a newspaper as alibi, and the cops consider that airtight enough to cut him loose? I'm pretty sure that was the first sign that the show might be headed downhill.

Nah fuck that guy, this show ended after season two as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, season four was horrible except for John Lithgow being an actual interesting killer.

The entire subplot with Dexter accidentally killing an innocent person was already done in season three. The fact that he did so this time in his kill room was really the last straw for him as any kind of redeemable character.

Let's not forget the amazing:

"DOAKES CLEARLY SHOT A DUDE

NEVER BRING IT UP EVER."

I think both characters received Karma in the writers pool for that one.

DOAKES AND LAGUERTA RUN AROUND SAYING THEY HEAVILY SUSPECT DEXTER IS SUSPICIOUS AND POSSIBLY INVOLVED IN MULTIPLE MURDERS

DOAKES AND LAGUERTA TURN UP DEAD SHORTLY AFTER.

Not a fuck was given by Miami Metro

It really is. I've never seen a show drop off so hard.

I really would love to go dig up some old posts of people speculating how amazing the last season of Dexter would be. It would be sad.

I was at the gym tonight. 30 seconds in to a 15 minute run I had this GIF looping in my mind. I ran with some stupid grin on my face.

And then season 3 shits it's pants early on. Apparently it recovers and season 4 is ok. But I cannot suffer through 3 to get to one good season and have it all go right back to crap again.

Yeah, I couldn't even make it through season 3. Every non-Dexter part of the show was always terrible. When the Dexter parts started getting terrible, it was time to let it go.

Season 3 is awesome. Easily some of the best writing on the show.

Honestly, how can you say Season 4 was any better (besides Trinity, the season has much worse stand alone episodes and b-plots. Just overall worse writing).

I left this trainwreck of a show after S4.

I was getting bored of the "serial killer of the week" type season arcs and felt they dragged the show to a point where it could've ended in S4 or at the most S5.

Then they fucking added 3 or 4 more seasons of shitty fillers. Glad i didnt waste my time on it.

I stopped about halfway through season six. I just couldn't do it anymore.
Colin Hanks and Edward James Olmos were just awful, imo.
It's a shame too, season four is one of the best seasons of TV I've seen, from any show.

Watching season 7......

Dexter kills his killer girlfriend's dad which didn't fit the code, completely removing any likability he had left. Yea fuck this show.

I'm certainly hate watching at this point to see if the spoilers I read about the finale are true. It would be the worst ending to a tv show in history.

For people saying Dexter never had any feelings, go back and rewatch seasons one and two. Anytime he's around Cody and Astor he's smiling, Dexter the character was never that good at acting, he legitimately enjoyed the affection these kids showed him. In fact, he spends more time trying to make them happy than he ever has with his real son.

I hated the season with Julia styles with a passion. Such an annoying character. The last two season have been horrible. I'm debating skipping season 8.

:lol

You're killing me over here!
