Watched a full playthrough on Twitch and it seems like another decent 7/10 Dark Pictures game. Story is basically a mishmash of a few space horror movies - Alien's Weyland-Yutani-esque corpo shenanigans featuring a The Thing-like alien lifeform, with a dab of Moon cloning drama.
Honestly, I wouldn't say the story itself is woke at all but, as this thread has evidenced, some of the character design and characterization absolutely is.


Also, watching this game with a bunch of zoomers in chat was giving me a headache. I wanted to slap anyone that said "omg it's like Among Us". Kids these days don't know about The Thing? FFS...

I've been going to the gym for 20 years, I've seen all sorts of toned women. I've never seen a woman with such shoulders.

It definitely didn't use to be this way. I think back on something like Fallout NV - lots of female characters, female characters in leadership positions, two gay characters, a variety of people from different backgrounds, etc. No one batted any eye when it was released in 2010 and the game is beloved to this day. However, a game nowadays with similar characters and themes would be met with a lot of caution from many people. It shouldn't be that way, but it's the result of the damage you mention. Just lots of heavy handed insertion of ideologies, checklists, DEI, refusal to listen to audience feedback, etc. I'd like to think it's something devs are gradually moving on from, but time will on that.

Yeah it's very unfortunate. But is how it's played out. I do think a lot of the industry contraction will remove a lot of the "activists". Some is very embedded tho and the writers in most cases simply aren't good enough to pull it off (compounded by the combination of DEI initiatives and writers strikes). The last of us part 2 had a lot of this stuff and was early in the era of abject rejection, but I didn't personally find anything problematic as they actually have talented writers, so it doesn't feel hamfisted.

Either way it's gonna take a years to remedy.

If devs want to put their beliefs or politics in to their own game they should be free do so same way Japanese devs are free to make character design sexy….thats their game and that's their fucking choice.

With 20k releases a year covering every possible angle, from Sackboy to Flight Sim to 8020, there is no shortage. Fighting over one specific dev's vision feels like a waste of time when the market is already saturated.

Hopefully we're seeing the final wave of these agenda driven games being flushed out of the system now, given how long they take to produce.

We'll see. We still have trash like Fable and Intergalactic coming out, but we are seeing signs of the industry doing slightly better like Lords of the Fallen 2 and Mortal Shell 2. The problem is that those are smaller devs. I'll still take them as small wins though.

Honestly the biggest victories imo is the fact that South Korea and China have started making their own AAA games and those countries are blessed with the fact that they are HARDCORE anti-feminist which is great.

My point is that what you see in fiction is not realistic. Those looks are ideological choices. Since woke creators have certain standards to meet, that's why you see the same kind of women. It's not even an artistic decision.

However, the bald head makes sense in an environment where there may be lice or unknown bacteria that could attach to your hair. For example, in the game Intergalactic it could be a valid reason for Jordan to shave her head. Though we know why Neil Druckmann does it, if he alleged that, there would be nothing to object.
