Is Evil Within the most underrated game this gen so far?

Tons of potential buried in a technical mess. It was awful in pc and i can't even imagine people finished this on console.

I'm struggling for the 3rd time to finish the game, currently in the 3rd chapter.

I've had enough crouch walking and bottle hoarding after TLOU to last me for a while, and some of the enemies are rather cheap with suddenly being able to see you when they shouldn't be able to.

I can see it has potential but...

I'd say it took a heavy hit by critics before fans even got their hands on it. Do I think it would of done better had that not happen? Yes. For one I think most triple A games get a nudge or some sort of push into the market if the game gets a lot of commercialism or feedback early on. It was probably an average game for a lot of people. I don't think it broke the door down for Mikami's reputation. He makes extremely well done products. I blame some of it on influence from maybe outsiders or possibly his team had a whole other vision of the game. Maybe he had too many people telling him what to add or what to take out?

It's underrated because it does a lot of what games did many years ago. I still prefer something I remember as being great over something completely new trying to get by by that alone. I think it also suffered from being in the same spotlight as games such as TLoU and various other games on the market. Classic games still get put out on the spotlight because they did something that didn't necessarily keep up with modern games or a modern audience. It's like people complaining about the doors in RE. Years ago we just laughed it off because we already had long loading times. I hope he can make another game or focus real hard on making the DLC outstanding. Otherwise who knows where this is all going? I really liked TEW. I think it's a great solid game if you aren't nit picky about all the details. I'd say an average person who doesn't necessarily play a lot of award winning games will think it's awesome.

Games like TLoU are setting a very high standard. TLoU has fantastic technical work with a "set-go" game play element. It took a lot of trial and error to get that formula to meet the style, right? It probably takes more work figuring out how to make the game anymore versus putting a solid plot in the middle of everything.

So a couple of funny things I just ran into.

Joseph threatens to kill himself with my gun. My empty ammo-less gun.

A bit further down the path he finds a sniper rifle and tells me "he will cover me". A baddie near by has a sniper rifle and pings me. Joseph ignores him as he keeps shooting at me (and ignores the more obvious target of Joseph, who is not in any cover at all."

can someone please shareplay the evil within so they can complete the final chapter (chapter 15) I swear I am a broken man after this game and its difficulty

Sorry for the bump but I recently finished this and totally loved it. Mikami at it again. Great job and loved the difficulty.

Underrated? Nah it's about where it needs to be. Loved by some, while other's think it's alright. It was a masterpiece but it wasn't all bad.
I know there was a bump, but wanted to chime in.

I got disinterested in the game halfway through it, but enough time has passed that I might give it another chance soon.

However, I still feel disappointed/underwhelmed by it.

Come to think of it, I only heard people saying that. I haven't heard people saying it's bad.

Has horrible voice acting and it takes a long time for the story to start (the mansion), you find journal entries from the main character which make him an interesting character, sadly the ingame one you play acts like a robot and nothing like the char pictured in them.

Gameplay and design wise it's pretty good, the aesthetic is also really nice.

I played it on PS4 and quit after a few chapters. I wasn't having any fun and the game wasn't appealing to me at all. After seeing a lot of people loving the game I gave it another shot on PC. I got a few chapters in again and quit again. It's one of the worst games I've played in a long time, in my opinion.
