Is G-sync really "needed" if you have a fast PC?

How does G-sync compare to Nvidia's "fast sync"?

Fast Sync is pretty close to triple buffered Vsync. It's a software solution meant for games like CSGO where your frame rate is in the hundreds, and normal Vsync incurs a higher input lag. Fast Sync won't offer other benefits, and can't be really compared to G-Sync.

Besides eliminating tearing, G-Sync also doesn't suffer from Vsync-judder that can happen in some circumstances. Technically if you can reach a perfectly solid frame rate at your refresh rate, G-Sync won't improve upon that, but that rarely happens even with a powerful PC. G-Sync won't actually help with other kinds of stuttering, but those might be exacerbated by a Vsync solution so using G-Sync will remove that obviously. Low frame rates and poor frame pacing will still be an issue, just to a slightly lesser degree.

ULMB also requires framerate to equal refresh rate, otherwise it'll introduce judder to the image. It'll lower brightness considerably considering it's essentially blinking a black screen intermittently, and with a low refresh rate that'll cause flickering issues. It tends to also create blurriness closer to the bottom edges of the display, so It's not recommended outside games where you can hit the frame rate target and care about high motion resolution.

In a world where GTX 1070 is called low-end, G-sync is god-sent.
It's very useful feature with really high entry price, had a 4K G-sync TN monitor for few weeks, returned the monitor but it definitely sparked my interest in G-sync. I don't feel like it's essential or anything like that, but if you have the budget for it, it can save you from many worries.

In what world is a 1070 "low end"? It's basically OG Titan X level performance @ $400.

Running games @ 4k? Running games @ 1440p, everything ultra?

I have a OG Titan X.1070 offers similar performance. I'm able to play BF1 @ 4K60 with two settings reduced from Ultra to High. At 1440p I get 80ish fps with everything on Ultra. I'm able to play DOOM at 4k60 on max settings.

So how is that "low end" performance? Im using BF1 because it's the most recent title, but I've had zero issues playing games at 4k or my primary RoG Swift display...
