Is Gotham Knights even worth a look at $20?

I've been hankering for more Arkham style beat-em-ups after having just finished my... 7th... replay of the Arkham Trilogy and Gotham Knights is on sale for $20 on PS5.

With Spidey 2 still over a month away I was wondering if anyone here had any recent experience with the game and could elucidate me on if its worth a damn or not.

Bought a physical copy for $9 AUD new from Bargain Bin. Have not opened it yet, would like to know the same thing. I heard besides 30fps on PS5, the game is alright. Lots of patched fixes since release.

Well I only played about 2 hours or so before put off, but the combat was not necessarily direct continuation of Arkmah trilogy. It feels much more flimsy and flashy.

I'd say it's worth 20 bucks for the game, but not sure if it's gonna scratch your combat itches.

Given how you played all the arkham games 7 times... then maybe?

It's not a "good" game, but if you're that much of a fan, maybe there are some things that will kind of save it for you.

The story is decent, it's not the worst part of the game, but the gameplay is really lacking.
The combats don't have the react / parry system that Arkham games had, instead you only have a dodge. This makes the combat have much less flow than the arkham games, and they feel incredibly boring and repetitive. Stealth is almost impossible, you really don't have as many stealth opportunities as in the arkham games, barely any abilities related to that, only Robin can do a tiny bit of stealth but it's pretty lame honestly.

Add to that the fact that there is a looting system, a leveling system, and you end up with something that feels like a very repetitive MMO, but with an okay story.
The worst part about the leveling system is that it's totally useless, every new night in the city also increase the level of the ennemies, so you never feel more powerful at all, it's just a neverending loop, without any of the satifaction of getting stronger, but all the hassles of having to manage loot, crafting, inventory, levels etc...

Unlike a lot of people, I was actually REALLY interested in this project when it was announced, I've been wanting a game based on the rest of the bat family since I played the DLCs in Arkham Knight, but the end result is very disappointing.

I recently played Marvel's Avengers and even if this sounds weird, I thought it was a much better game than Gotham Knights lol At least the combats here were pretty good, and even the campaign was honestly totally decent, it's just the endgame content that sucks, but if you just stick to the main story, it's a better game than Gotham Knights to me.

One thing I liked in Gotham Knights though is that even if the city is a bit disappointing because it feels too generic, I liked that it allowed us to play in a version of gotham with civilians instead of just villains, it was cool to see pedestrians and cars etc in gotham for once, I liked that.

Edit: Oh another huge problem of the game for me was that even if there are 4 characters and you would like to switch between them, you can't really do that because you will need to grind from scratch for all of them, unlock their traversal abilities, redo repetitive progression challenges etc... This was really a big problem to me and a friend (we played it in coop). At some point you really don't want to try other characters because it's too much investement to make one playable.

Definitely. i also got it for $22 last year on the Epic store christmas sale and really enjoyed my time with it. story is weak but has a very strong opening and ending. combat is sublime. they let you choose between 4 characters who all play differently and each of them is fun to play.

Now that they fixed it so it doesn't crash every 10 minutes, I like it better than the Arkham games, but I also played it on PC where I can run it 60fps.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Definitely, it's a lot better then whatever Rocksteady is working on.
And if you like the Arkham games you should like this.
Think of it more of Batgirl game set in a different universe..
I enjoyed it more then I expected based on people's opinions.
They just should of focused on a single player game though

I don't really get the logic of a "price drop on middling game" purchase.

Like a ton of S-Tier games are out there, also dropped in price over time. A sale/drop should be about snagging high quality at a low price, not settling for something that likely isn't worth your time, let alone your money.

Not a cent more than $5 during a sale, especially on consoles.

Lazy pricks, couldn't add a perf mode to a 360/PS3 gen looking assbackwards game, citing CPU clocks for drop-in drop out co-op, to one of the most horribly optimised modern games in recent times.

No would not even recommend for $10 game is a glorified mobile game. Non existent story, same couple of missions and enemies in different skins.

I had a blast with it from start to finish at launch on PC. Even fired up new game plus with it.

Play Redhood or Batgirl for most bang for buck.

If you're a huge Batman/Batman universe fan then yes, absolutely @ $20. There's much worse games our there than Gotham Knights.

I completely forgot about this game.

At one point did they say they were revisiting and revamping some systems for a big update later this year or early next?

Edit: Nope I misremembered.
I was thinking of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Get it on PC if you have a pretty good rig. I think it's not as bad as the hate it was getting, but it's not as good as Arkham Knight or City. For $20 it's an easy recommendation.

Nope. Played it with a friend, which should make it more fun and it was still a POS. If the story was good I might've recommended it, but the story is absolute dog shit. They make Batman look like a fucking idiot. The villains are just fucking laughable.

No, i bought it on PC thinking it would be a bit of mindless fun, but technical issues and extremely boring gameplay just killed it for me after a few hours.

not even at 10 imo

don't listen to the "its not that bad" or "fun game" that is absolutely not the case

I played the PC version so I didn’t have the 30fps issue, game runs really well most of the time and just drops to 50 when you drive in the city.

I think it’s a good game that just suffers from the comparison with the Arkham games.

Good:
- story and world building are good, I like that it happens in a post-Batman timeline
- graphics, especially the shadows and lighting
- combat is good, simple but it works. It helps that you can easily change character to break the routine
- flying in the city is kinda fun, each character has a different flight mechanic

Bad:
- the bike absolutely sucks, it’s painfully slow and boring to drive
- side activities are a bit pointless and take you way too often to the same spots
- loot is useless, never understand why games implement loot mechanics and do nothing with those aside from basic stats

For the €15 I spent I had a good time.

It supposedly got a good performance update recently. I had a pretty good time with it myself. 🤷‍♂️

For $20 I'd say so, especially if you can play it with a buddy. I think I picked it up for $30 right a few weeks after launch and a buddy and I went through most of it and had a great time.

Rather just watch some porn and save the $20. It will be a better experience

I may bite at $15. If it's a half decent beat em up I could probably enjoy it for a bit. Haven't had a Batman game in quite a while.

Arkham Knight was so good.

Same thing can also be said with enemy AI.

F.E.A.R 1(2005) vs. others
