Is Hyper Light Drifter worth it?

Definitely play it. Great game. Although I'm definitely stuck. I've defeated the four main bosses but haven't reached the endgame. It's pretty abstract & I have no idea how to complete it. I've been trying to
collect all the "keys" or whatever they're called, but that's taking a long time.

"worth it"? You don't have $15?

I'm puzzled by this. Doesn't deafeating the 4 bosses just open the path to the last boss in the town square?

Steam? Buy. It's 60 fps (not yet on consoles). Play with gamepad. Take your time exploring and choosing upgrades. Try to defeat first boss with no upgrades (which ever one you want).

I got the soundtrack before I actually touched the game. Fuck prog rock.

LOL

Music is so sweet. Rich Vreeland knows his stuff.

It came out a while ago in September, for the PC. Don't know if a 60fps will be available for consoles, considering how hard it was for just the PC version. There's also a boss rush mode and easy difficulty.

Alex Preston said they'll get it. But I don't know when, it's taking a bit too long now. It's a shame, the game plays so much better with the patch. And it performs actually better now in terms of stutter or frame pacing or whatever.

Me too. I got the soundtrack and it was incredible. Easily best of the year for me. The game looked and sounded incredible but was put off by how hard the gameplay looked.

On PS4 release I thought screw it and so happy I did.

It will definitely take a while. Maybe 4-6 months.

If someone has an ok laptop even, get HLD on it and 60fps now.

I loved it. I personally didn't have an issue with the framerate or the difficulty of this particular game at launch, but I know some people did.

The developer has patched it on pc to run at 60fps and include difficulty modes, and I've seen both of these updates get a lot of praise.

It's definitely worth it.

I just finished it last week and highly recommend it, one of the best games I've played recently!

Amazing visually and the combat is a lot of fun, lots of secrets to find too.

Yes, not as hard as some have stated it is. Checkpoints are very generous. Very much like a bounty hunting version of Zelda. Haven't finished it yet but it's already in my Top 5 GOTY.

I've been playing for a bit and it's even better than I thought.

Amazing use of visuals to tell so many stories.

It's great. Like a mix between the style and atmosphere of a Metroid game, the structure and style of a Zelda game and the fast-paced combat of a character action game like Devil May Cry (complete with a mix between swords and guns). Storytelling is extremely minimal and the game world is very weird, harsh and unforgiving, but it has an incredible sense of adventure and loneliness I've not felt in a long time, some of the most amazing pixel art I've seen all year and some very rewarding fast-paced combat. Really excellent game and I thoroughly recommend it.

I just got it on Steam because of this thread, but it runs terribly on my computer. Frequent frame rate drops and stutters that make it unplayable. I have a i7 quad core and RX480, so I don't think it's a lack of power on my end. Any ideas, or should I just return it?

Yes. One of my favorite games of the year. Amazing visual design. Amazing music. Amazing combat. Amazing amazing amazing.

Like it a lot but I'm getting to the end and it's starting to grate on me.
In the area to the south and I'm just finding myself annoyed by it.
Worth the money though, great game.

HLD is good enough.

Even though one could say it took long enough to develop, to me it seems like it could've used a bit more time in the oven to balance things out. The timing on a lot of moves is extremely odd, and the game honestly kind of overpunishes you for not getting it right sometimes. That dash challenge is way too much, I had to resort to a trick on PC to beat it, which actually gives you an ability that makes the game much more fun: being able to do special moves more often.

And "new game+" can be absolutely ridiculous in terms of difficulty. Feels cheap way too often, and the regular game already did. The 60fps patch makes everything feel smoother, but I'm not sure it helped much with the game's difficulty.

Somewhat of a nitpick, but while I appreciate them striving for minimal presentation (I especially like how there's no dialogue), the story is too obscure and obtuse for its own good.

I'd like a GOTY edition or some shit with revised gameplay.
