Is it a bad time to buy a 3DS?

I bought my Zelda 3DS XL in Nov and feel like an idiot now.

I would of easily waited for the LL, I mean I waited that long for a DS - what's another year?

If you sell it, you will easily get $100. That means you are essentially paying $50-100 to use an XL for over a year (depending on if you bought during a the sale last holiday), considering we won't get the new 3DS until spring. That seems like a deal to me.

Likewise, even if you buy an XL right this moment, you will only be about $40-50 out of pocket if you resell it and buy the new system next year. That's $50 to enjoy the system for at least six months. It may as well be free at that cost.

Its kinda akward for non 3ds owners who want Smash Bros. Do you wait for the new 3DS or do you go with the current ones?

Luckily I dont have to make that decision.

I can't even believe the New 3DS isn't launching in NA and EU in 2014.

I bought an XL for super cheap at Target last year and don't regret it. I'll keep my XL and OG 3DS for streetpass farm. But I don't think I'll be able to get my 10 play coins per day on all three of them every single day.

The library is good enough where if you don't care about Xenoblade or whatever other games might be new only just get an XL for cheap this holiday.

It's never a bad time to buy a 3DS.

Haha, good point.

Should you decide to upgrade anytime down the line, just make sure to have both new system and old system with you, along with a stable internet connection. System transfers should take a couple of minutes depending on connection.

I'm wondering if a Wii U or 3DS would be good at the moment. I'm not interested in FE:A, Bravely Default, Smash(3DS), and I wouldn't bring it outside because I don't have time to play it. That said, I've heard lots of good things about games like Kid Icarus and the new Phoenix Wright, so I'm torn.

I got my XL just a month ago and I did have a pang of regret when I saw this announcement. Then I realized it won't come out till next year and the hours I'll put on this machine with the pokemon remake and smash will be well worth having the longer battery life and having my son play on my old 3DS.

Yes, I'll own 3 3DSs in just a few months.

It's not really a great time considering the lack of software support. My 3DS has been gathering more dust than my PS4 this year, even the Vita is embarrassing it in terms of releases.

What? lack of software support? 3ds? dude i cannot take you seriously, on other hand it's bad a time because of the NEW 3ds thing.

I'm in a bit of a rock and a hard place;

My current 3DS (Ocarina of Time) is on its last legs; R button doesn't work, the screen pops if you open it at anything more than a 90 degree angle.

I really like that Zelda one that's on the refurbished website and its a bit cheaper than retail which is nice too. But, then Nintendo announced the new one today..

I dunno what to do. Buy now and be able to play Pokemon and Smash like a normal person, or wait around until next year and hope the new system comes out soon.

3DS for the better half of the year wasn't bad at all. Heck, I think it was spaced better than 2013's.

Starting from September with Curtain Call, there's at least one worthwhile game for each month until December.

and there's always the 3DS backlog. the old good games in it has simply didn't vanish :p

I feel like its been out a while and Nintendo has to be planning a successor. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows. I mean its not like they're that expensive anyway, I just don't wanna jump in if they're announcing a successor in 6 months or whatever, ya know?

Bad, real bad, Michael Jackson

OP, just get one for Smash and Pokemon, then trade it in towards whenever the New 3DSes release here. And besides, the New ones don't look to be all sunshine and rainbows.

I wanna see if this is the case with the actual model.

If the screen looks that bad then I don't give a shit about exclusive stuff. (but I do want one, I just hope that this wasn't representative. I need a new 3DS, mine is breaking down.)

That screen is showcasing the N3DS's auto-brightness function. Thats not the difference of quality between systems.

TBH though, do you guys honestly think Smash's multiplayer scene will have died out by the time the New 3DS comes out? Sure a lot of people will move to the Wii U version, but this isn't some fly by night FPS of the week. Smash will probably be one of the higher played multiplayer games along with Mario Kart 7, the Pokemons, and maybe Monster Hunter 4.

Waiting for a new 3ds, or maybe a nice discount on an older one isn't such a bad idea.

(And for the record, you get a "whoopsiedaisy" from me too on the buy it train, although I did also suggest waiting for a discount then too :P )

Do you want my 3DS XL, OP? I sure don't play it and with this model coming out I lost any motivation to support it in the future. XD

I'd give it another 1.5 years before nintendo makes a new handheld. So no, it's not a terrible time to buy it. I'd suggest buying digital(even if the eshop is terrible for it) just in case nintendo finally decides to stop being physical backwards compatible though.

... Well, I guess I was wrong. It really was a bad time to buy a 3ds.

i kind of feel the same way at the moment, I'm stuck between wanting a 3ds and getting a new one, i love pokemon games and thats mainly what i play when i did have a Purple 3DS (a family members) but I'm leaning towards getting a new one when it comes out next year
