Is It Just Me Or Is Dead Rising 2 Getting Ignored?

Hype is slowly dying for me :(
I want a demo bhfbkhgnjhhjh
plus case zero comes out to late, come out now.

I'm really hoping it's not like lost planet 2, my god that was shit.
I still have hope, also frank must make an apperance or we learn what happened to him.
:lol "AaAAaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhggghhhh!!!!!"

The E3 impressions of the game's performance were BAD.
It's also has more than one delay and it feels like it was announced years ago. At this point, I won't care until it's a month out.

It seemed like the reception for the first game was very polarizing, mostly due to the save system. You either appreciated it, or hated the shit out of it. I'm in the latter group. From what I've heard (and to be fair I obviously haven't been paying much attention to DR2), is that the save system is unchanged for the most part. This makes me instantly ignore the sequel.

In what way, though? I'm willing to stand by the fact the game is very enjoyable in single player (perhaps a lone dissenting voice) though brilliant in co-op. You're not going on...story, are you?

I'd love to hear about how the single player experience is "very enjoyable". I didn't play through the first in co-op, so why should I have to on the second in order to get the proper experience?

I expected an epic but quirky 3rd person shooter in the same vein as the first, but instead I got a shitty, buggy Monster Hunter clone.

Not ignored... just apathetic towards. It's like Crackdown 2 or Ratchet and Clank Future. It doesn't look like it is striving for anything new with the "I think I've played it before" feeling.

I'm ignoring it because Dead Rising was the biggest disappointment this gen IMO.

I think it's coming out way too late relative to the first game. It doesn't help that it looks so mediocre. I expect it will flop like Lost Planet 2.

I've been following this game for quite a while now. Originally the media that was put out did look like crap. That was before some of the individuals at Capcom actually went to see what the hell Blue Castle was doing. If you look now the game is much smoother and cleaner and nicer running. Since Blue Castle is working on multiplat and not porting from one system to the other I expect the game to run well regardless of what system it is on, be it PC, Xbox or PS3.

That said there have been a lot of improvements not only to the zombie AI, but to the survivor AI as well. The survivors are not nearly as difficult to deal with and actually do as they are told now. A lot of this isn't being reported on due to poor journalism and or embargo status of information. Blue Castle is being very tight lipped about the game which could lead one to doubt but in this case I think that they are simply trying to keep the surprises to a minimum.

I am happy that the photo system has been replaced with the weapon system anyway. I don't think I know anyone who actually took photos for PP in Dead Rising. It was simply bash and smash and get the mini chainsaws and the three books. So why keep the photo system anyhow? Might as well come up with something new.

As for Frank? I don't really care much that he's not the star. Chuck seems awesome and his motivation for the game is a much better focus.

Regardless of how it actually turns out, I definitely won't buy it day one.
Just like Bioshock 2 it should hit the bargain bins within a matter of months.

I didn't play through the game in co-op first time I clocked it, and found it a wonderful challenge. The experience is, at least to me, terrifically varied and remains the quirky shooter it always was - just without Wayne and co. in tow. There's always tons of gear to play with, it's got a nice leveling system, the bugs are there in spades...some nice new VSs to play around with. You'd only be disappointed if you bought into the idea that it is completely unplayable outside of co-op.

No sequel Capcom ever makes this gen will sell or be as good, besides the upcoming MvC3. BTW, does Capcom have anything slated for the fall besides DR2?

Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes!

But the save system has been changed! That's one of the things that already sucks about DR2.

Release a demo!

You have to pay for that one. :D

I'm sure it will get good reviews, I'll buy it and really enjoy it but... there's no hype there for me.

And, to be honest, I'm not sure what they could do about that. I think it's a "you need to play it" game.

After launching two successful new IPs in Lost Planet and Dead Rising, instead of building on the IPs by following up with sequels which fans expected they decided to throw everything away and spit on the fanbase. Instead of a follow up to Lost Planet, they decided to make Space Monster Hunter. Instead of a follow up to Dead Rising, they decided to ship it off to Canada. I have no sympathy for Capcom if both IPs don't survive this generation.
well isn't capcom the company who let their most talented devs go own their own instead of letting them nurture the ips that they created (kamiya/devil may cry, mikami/resident evil) so that they can have more "control" over "their" ips. i still have mad respect for capcom for their engineering brilliance & their efforts to cater to a global gaming audience but that doesn't change the fact that their management have a tendency to make some of the worst desicions (i.e. $200 steel battilion on xbox)

Don't see the point in hyping a game that's not a couple of weeks before release. The 1-2 year long hype-train marketing binge is getting old. There's nothing to talk about until reviews are out and people are playing the game.

So far I'm not feeling it but who knows. I liked the set-up and situation of the first game. I'm pretty sure I'll download Case Zero and from there decide if I like what's going on.

One of my most anticipated games, but I will say it is being lowballed.
Microsoft is definitely not going to put any push on it since it is now on both consoles, so you would think that Sony would be singing it from the hills.
I think that Capcom is making a mistake by not putting Dead Rising out on PS3 even if it was a PSN release or hell even if it was the Wii version with Move compatibility (I know it sucked but it would be something).
Either way though I will be grabbing it day one.

Probably because all the previews make it look like more of the same instead of fixing the problems that nearly ruined the first game (save system, escorts, 3-day limit by default, etc.)

There is nothing wrong with the save system or the time limit. I'm glad they're keeping those. What I'm not so glad about is how the sequel seems to lack any sort of personality whatsoever, and they removed the entire photography system. Lame.

Pretty much. The time/save system of the first was flawless. But man I just can't believe how lethargic I am to this new sequel. Who the hell's idea was it to drop Frank West altogether?

Woah woah woah. I'm not saying Dead Rising 2 will be fantastic, but the game is invalidated just because it's made in Canada?

Well this is gaming age, where Japan is not just beloved but REVERED.

I'm playing a preview build of Dead Rising 2 now, and I'm generally pleased with the improvements and fixes the lowly Canadians have made.

the only reason DR [and LP] got so much attention was because they came out at times when the 360 had very little games to play.

Game looks absolutely boring. Really nothing more to it. The first game was neat for about an hour, after which it got boring. I reckon this one will last 5 minutes.

To be fair, our chances of seeing lumberjack zombies have never been greater.

Anyway, loved DR1, despite its flaws (mainly on the controls side). The time limit and limited saving were pretty crucial to the sense of urgency. Adding co-op = day1.

This 100% real talk.

1. Trailers are horrible
2. Main character looks BORING
3. They've shown off 0% of the gameplay that's not related to hacking and slashing. I'd like to see some of the mission design -- the REAL reason DR was a great game, on top of the timed nature -- , but nooooo, they have to show off all the ways you can kill zombies.
4. NOT by the original team

Basically, the media they've shown for the sequel has been mind-numbingly BORING which is the contrast to the original Dead Rising.

I mean, really:

Who the fuck wants to play this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvTAf1EIebM

When you got this?

I totally agree. I have a feeling they are going to get rid of the timed nature of the missions and allow you to save anywhere at anytime. At the point it will just become Dynasty Warriors Zombie with an open world / mission structure, and that doesn't sound all that interesting to me. The fact that it's being developed by a completely different team in another country, and that it is using a different engine than the first Dead Rising isn't comforting, either.

Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's changed. I feel that the media reporting on the game are kind of at fault here considering all anyone ever does with the demo is immediately start running around whacking zombies and making the same combo weapons over and over. And again, anytime I witness someone else playing the game they never use the camera.

Other than the fact that it was and remains one of the best games of this gen for any system, you're totally right about DR.

They spent too much time talking about the stupid shit, like "Hey, kill more boring-ass zombies, except this time with chainsaws on a stick on a motorbike". I just got sick of even attempting to follow it. I have no idea what's going on with the parts that actually made the first game fun: The time limit, the save system, optimizing your survivor rescue routes, etc.

At some point it just became a lot easier to ignore it and wait until it's actually out, when I can actually hear a range of opinions from other people who liked/hated the first game for the same/opposite reasons that I did. Even then, public opinion failed me pretty hard on Lost Planet 2, even for some stuff that should have been pretty basic and factual, so it might just be a case where it's all useless to me until I get a chance to play for myself.

People got burned by losing half an hour to an hour of progress at times due to the shit save system in the original and are afraid to get fucked that way again?

Except that it would have been awesome had they actually made "Space Monster Hunter", but they didn't. They made "kill generic bad guys for most of the game in small set-pieces, and then occasionally get some awesome Monster Hunter-esque boss battles".

I'm looking forward to this. It's just that it comes out late Sept. so it's not really on my radar yet. When Case 0 comes out, I'll get that and it will determine if I will purchase DR2.

I dunno. It's a lot of factors, really.

There was a dev playthrough not long ago that was really bad. The zombies weren't attacking Chuck at all unless he physically touched them.

The "make any tool!" mechanic lost a lot of its luster when people found out how limited it was.

The "Dead Rising was too Japanese" comment from the developers was concerning, but then they filled the game with jokes aimed squarely at fourteen year-olds (dildos, vomiting, visible playboy spreads), so I'm not sure they're doing that much better.

The ninja outfit was cool, but I'd be buying on PC, so Gamestop pre-orders are dumb.

The Case Zero progress saving is cool, but I'd be buying on PC, so it doesn't aid me in any way.

The graphics look okay, but I'd be buying on PC, and they've never talked about that version, so I suspect it will be delayed or janky as fuck.

The game might come out and surprise everyone. But I think there's plenty of legitimate reasons not to be hyped.

Oh, the co-op character just lazily being another Chuck Greene also kind of diminished my hope for the title.

I understand that they don't think it matters, as the gameplay is the same if it's Chuck Greene or Frank West or someone entirely different, but it makes it look slapped together.

Here I agree, they could have done a different character for the Co-Op. That was silly.

Mother fucking DAY ONE! :D

Sure alot of people are just playing the wait and see, or some are just condemning blue castle before they get their hands on it, thats fine. Though I think case zero will get alot of people hyped for it.

post fucking nailed it.

i loved both originals, couldn't care less for either sequel.

First one is a love or hate the game. I remember back when I had my 360 I played the hell out of it because of it's quirks. This second one is trying to suck people in by offering zombie genocide at a nominal laughs per hour. That's not what made the first game so fun it.. I mean yeah sure chopping zombies to death is fun but the characters in the game were f'ed in the head in which drew the gamers in to see what crazy shit they'd see next.

This one looks boring and uninspired of which is a shame but should not be a surprise to anyone.
