Is it odd for boys/men to call their father daddy?

I've always called my parents by their first names. Both of my sisters called them mom/dad, but for whatever reason, I've just never been comfortable using a general title to address my parents. To their credit, they just went with it.

My nickname for my mom is her actual name. It's done more as an in-joke between us than me actually just calling her by her first name.

You tell me:

Maybe it's the picking up on social cues that tell boys they shouldn't be as emotionally attached to their fathers.

But yeah, now it's been taken over as a sex thing so good luck reclaiming that, people who want to break down the wall of emotional distance between men in order to prevent toxic masculinity.

if you're ok with your daughter calling you daddy but not your son because sexual connotations then that's weird.

Nah I just went to calling my dad my old man it feels like a coming of age thing. My mom hates it when I call my dad by his name I just laugh. Calling my dad my old man is a grown up version of saying daddy.

Is this because of this?:

IM DELETING YOU, DADDY!😭👋 ██]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] 10% complete..... ████]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] 35% complete.... ███████]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] 60% complete.... ███████████] 99% complete..... 🚫ERROR!🚫 💯True💯 Daddies are irreplaceable 💖I could never delete you Daddy!....

....and you know the rest.

No.
I call my dad pa, apa, and pops.

Sometimes when we at the store I like to yell poppa in an old timey accent and he gets mad.

Ain't you Dominican? Tell me..how odd is it to hear a child of any age call their pop's papi? Just for an anecdotal laugh..

Yea my mom's side, it doesn't ever really register with me. Though one time this non hispanic white family was eating lunch behind me and the girl called her dad papi which threw me for a loop.

Hell I hear adult hispanic women calling their dads papi, their daughters mami and it's par for the course.

I say mother and father for my parents. Wasn't raised to do so as my siblings say mom and dad. Just started doing it when I was 12 and twenty years later I still do it.

My father did have an employee of his get upset because of religious reasons (he should only have one father!) but my father told him I could call him father if I wanted.

Mommy and daddy just sound silly to me. I also can't stand hearing ma, pa, mama, and papa. The latter two my step family uses to refer to grandparents and it's like nails on a chalkboard.

Exactly my point. Certain cultures just do it. Again, was never MY thing, but till this day, my step sister/brother always refers to my pops as papi..he's been dead and gone for over two decades (they're from PR, btw).

Its fine, I use all the terms based on importance. Especially the variations of mom. Sometimes you need to cycle through them.

If they are children at most preteens it should not be weird.

it should never be weird. I recognize it already is for most fathers in the US. Just something they need to check themselves on. Because it is weird if say your 20 something daughter calling you daddy is A-OK but not you 20 something son because in your mind daddy means incest. That is sooooo weird. Trump/Ivanka weird. Stop thinking of it in that way. If you can't then you REALLY shouldn't have your daughter call you that.
