Is it weird that I can't look at myself in the mirror?

Mirrors annoy me. I mean, you're obviously looking at yourself... just reversed. And lighting plays a huge fricken part in what you see in said mirror, so really... you can't be sure that what you're looking at is an accurate representation of yourself. If you look good in a mirror, you might still look awful in real life.

Or maybe I'm just paranoid because I have body image problems.

I think everyone has this.

Honestly, if you need a mirror to brush your teeth you might have a bigger problem than OP
Dentistry 101? Probably the strangest thing I've read in a long time. There are things that can get stuck in there that you'd need a mirror to see, otherwise may miss and would rot. I'd hate to see what's decaying in your mouth.

So what happens when you go to a public bathroom with mirrors? I mean do you have no perisperhal vision? Or do you just stare at the ground the entire time?

Sort of.

My bathroom mirror doesn't bother me a bit. I think I look good.

But then I see myself in a car mirror, or see my reflection on my tablet screen, it bugs me. "It's like, damn, I look ugly"

I think it has to do with the lightning. My bathroom is somewhat dimly light, the light goes through a plastic filter (I have no idea why bathrooms do that, but it seems pretty standard) which makes the lighting softer.

But when it's bright and harsh, I can see myself better and I look worse.

I like to believe I'm good looking, but I know I'm not (I can't use my photo on sites, because random people message me telling me I'm ugly. I had that happen a lot on Last FM of all places. But also OKCupid, where I have to use my real phots). Mirrors with bright lighting destroy my facade.

Very freaking weird. I don't have the highest self esteem so I need to make sure i don't look like shit when i have to go to work or outside in general.

Op post a photo of yourself. Better yet a mirror pic so we can see you as you would see you if you did, otherwise we'll see you as others do, and not how you don't do.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't need a mirror to realize that something is stuck between my teeth.

My dentist hasn't complained about my teeth rotting away so far.

If I'm alone I will turn away from the mirror and wash my hands backwards.
If I am not alone I will just look somewhere else.

I mean there's stuff I get

when I was losing my hair, sometimes i'd be outside feeling awesome with people, and suddenly i'd catch a reflection and go "my hair looks like a baby's" and instantly feel bad/lose confidence

like everything else, that just kinda went away. But even when that was happening i'd still look in the mirror plenty of times a day and tried to look my best.

It is a bit weird, but I've heard of weirder. Do you feel panicky or something when you catch a glimpse? It might be something you need to talk with a professional about.

Me? I'd recommend immersion therapy. Force yourself to look at yourself in the mirror for five minutes. Then up it to ten.

The thing is, I wasn't always like this. I remember when I was little I would always stare in the mirror making funny faces or flexing with my dad. Something happened along the way, and I'm not sure what.

Yeah, it's time to talk to a professional man. I'd call and get an appointment.

Sounds very body dysmorphic. I've dealt with that most of my adult life. Mirrors/reflections are bad, but photos are the absolute worst thing ever =(

It gets weird when I get recorded on video.

I'm used to seeing the front and sides of my head/face in the mirror but it gets weird when you actually see your movements (naturally) and the back of your head. I also hate when I hear my voice on a recorder.
