Is Switch potentially becoming the main console for many now?

I know a few lapsed (8ish) gamers that got a Switch and absolutely love it; they are less sold on AAA games and are fine with indies.

Of the other gamers I know that have a Switch. They like the convenience. Quite a few like how easy it is to go from handheld to tv; they have jobs and busy lives and home console are too inconvenient.

With that current library? No. Come on. At least not for hardly anyone who does not do the vast majority of they're gaming on the go.

I could definitely see it taking over as a lot of people's "main secondary" platform though, if that makes sense.

A huge amount of Vita owners I interacted with were the same; this just feels an evolution of that. Being able to pick up and play, suspending and coming back whenever is a godsend.

When the wife wants to watch East Enders or some other mundane shite I can just pick it up, and carry on without the need for a barney.

If you don't count PC as a "console" then yes. I hardly touch my PS4. Before the Switch the 3DS was my main "console" when not playing games on the PC. PC > Switch > 3DS > PS4.

For me it is.

There was always a different between handheld& console games.
handheld games were always the "cheaper" version.

Now thanks to the switch we get the more expensive version of franchises that's also been portable.

With its current library and the fact that I like playing a wide variety of AAA games that I just can't play on Switch, no absolutely not.

But that doesn't mean I don't want it to be my main console. The Switch is currently my favorite piece of gaming hardware I own, and that's including everything back to my Atari 2600. I love this thing, I bring it with me everywhere, and I'm constantly looking for any reason to play something on it. I play games on my PC all the time (especially indies) and look over at my Switch and wish whatever I was playing was available on it.

This isn't really about the library but about how people consume video games and how Switch would affect their behavior. No one is expected to sell off their PS4 or never touch it again after getting a Switch.

But for games that are on both systems... How often will you pick up the PS4 version compared to the Switch release? For what type of games and how will it impact your overall gaming time?

A 3 months old systems library obviously can't compete with systems in their 4th year on the market... But even so I doubt that Switch owners will have issues finding something to play on their consoles this year.

I feel thats a mayor difference between Switch and past Nintendo systems that got the secondary platform treatment. If the games arrive on Switch people will actually be interested to pick them up eve of they aren't exclusive. There was no reason for Atlus to even think of putting a Persona title on WiiU... But putting it on Switch is common sense and many people will pick it up. Same with DBFighterZ from Bamco the demand is there as long as it's somewhat feasible to bring these games on Switch.

I don't own a Switch yet, but I know that it will become my primary gaming device.
I have a gaming PC, but I can't just spend additional hours in front of it, after spending 9 hours in front of a PC in the office. Spending 1-2 hours in bed while playing something is a different story. I'll get a Switch together with Mario Odyssey, Zelda and probably Skyrim when it gets released. Those games will keep me busy for a while.
Before E3 I was playing with the idea to get a PS4 for comfy couch gaming, but I just don't like the idea of being bound to a certain location anymore.
I'd buy every multiplat on the Switch if I could.

Not for me. For the moment I've run out of games I want to play on it and don't really see myself getting anything else until Mario.

Its fun enough to be able to play handheld or on the tv but thats not enough draw for me to pull me away from the PS4 or PC ecosystems I'm already happy with.

While I mostly play games on the PC, the Switch is the only console I regularly use. I absolutely love it, so, yes, I can see it becoming my main console for years to come.

Got a 9 month old at home, video game time reduced 90-99% so yeah Switch and mobile has become my default gaming these days.

This is pretty much what I've seen too. Despite some multi platform game situations in the past Nintendo can bank on the portable factor to get some sales if gamers would prefer to play the game on the go.

Sonic Mania is one example of this. The Switch version is very likely to be the one I pick because of how portable the console is and having two joycons for multiplayer really adds to that incentive. Even Sonic Forces will probably be played on the Switch despite how graphically better it is on other consoles.

Dragonball Fighter Z I'd happily buy too. That game looks dope and would prefer to have it on the Switch.

I like my Switch but it will just be my Nintendo/exclusives console/handheld. Will be playing the mutliplat third parties on PS4 Pro or PC.

Most of my gaming is done socially.

Currently playing Skyrim with someone via party chat and shareplay. That's not an experience I'm going to get on Switch.

Yes, especially with the current and imminent online-centric lineup.

In the mid to long term I'm quite confident I can build a huge backlog as well. :-D
(and yes, the fact Switch allows me to play whenever I want the same games it runs on the big screen is a huge factor)

I certainly play it more than anything else currently, and in cases where it's possible I will likely get the Switch versions of third-party games. I love the portability factor.

I haven't really had the sense that the Switch is taking away from primary PS4 users. I suppose for those it does, it could just be the handheld/novelty factor, or that they've always been Nintendo players first and foremost.

I can't wait to be able to buy a Switch, but the idea that it could ever replace my PS4, which I'll still be doing the vast majority of my gaming on is insane to me.

Currently rocking a Ps4 + Vita + 55" 1080P TV, had that combo since 2015

Plan to keep that combo for another 2 years

Late 2019 I will "switch" to a Switch when I feel totally bored of my sony stuff

Some 4 years later (?) 2023 I will pick up a Ps5/xboxXX + 4K OLED tv

I could see switch being my main console for those years. As of now, too few indies / first party titles on the system. But the vita showed my that I in fact love handheld gaming, only owned an gameboy pocket prior to that. Been missing out

That said, following the Switch train with high aniticipatiance and hope it will be a success and that the inveitable hardware revision will be even better

It honestly is for me. As a married man with 4 kids, the Switch is perfect for grabbing those small moments when I can actually play a game due to the versatility. My PS4 got its first playtime since the Switch was released just a few nights ago just to get in a little bit of Overwatch. To be honest, I didn't miss it

Played a lot of mario kart in beginning but im back on the ps4 train.

First time where i have two actively supported home consoles so i dunno how to handle my time begween the two, my switch is just collecting dust since theres no games that interest me more than what im in the middle of on ps4. Im sure ill pick it up again once odessey comes out, but mario kart really soured me so im not as addicted as i first was.

Nah.

I only play exclusives on Switch.

If I have a choice between PC/PS4 or Switch, I'm going with PC/PS4 99% of the time.

My Switch also never leaves its Dock.

I agree w people who mentioned the portable factor. I just want all the games on the Switch now that I can play it anywhere like the bus, Starbucks, on my bed, at bathroom etc.

Yup. It's really drawn me back into gaming. Nintendo first party titles always feel so polished and complete. Zelda on day one was a huge draw for me.

Wish indie games coming along like they are, surpassing the amount of enjoyment I get from regular third party games bar a select few, being able to play on the TV or on the go is absolutely fantastic. I don't know if Nintendo could have done this any sooner but it is magnificent.

The rest of the year looks like it has more than enough to satiate my needs however I am skeptical if they can keep the momentum going in 2018. If they can the Switch will probably be my favourite console to date.

I would buy the Switch for three games, Zelda, Mario and Metroid. Everything else will be on something else and all will be from the couch.

No. Loved Zelda and played 200+ hours. Haven't played anything since and my next game is Mario Odyseey.

Still a Nintendo machine and their output of games I like is like 2 maybe 3 in launch year. Not even close.

While I haven't played my ps4 for the last couple of weeks, that's basically due to the excitement of a new console. A great one, I must add. I really love the hardware.

I got Mario Kart and Arms, and going forward, I'll probably pick Mario Odyssey up and that's it, for 2017 I mean. I plan to stick to my PS4 as a main console. I have a backlog there.

I prefer games on the Switch unless they look and perform substantially better on another console.

I just bought Hollow Knight on steam but I'm thinking about returning it since Id much rather play it for the first time on the Switch.

Anecdotally I'm holding out on buyimg Dead Cells in hopes of a Switch version once it comes out and I've decided on getting the Zelda DLC instead of buying Witcher 3 during the Steam sale

Switch is great for what it is. A Nintendo IP game playing machine and those extremely few needle in a hay stack 3rd party gems. As a main console I'd be dying right now till Odyssey

PS4 has about 50x as many good games, so it's still my main console. I do enjoy the occassional opportunity for gaming on Switch though.

Given that most multiplatforms probably are not coming to Switch... I can't see it.

It's a far stronger complementary system than Wii was, though.

When a game I want releases, I tend to play it over other games I don't want to play as much regardless of platform.
Seriously, this. I play videogames for the games, not the hardware.

Of the 4 switch games I've bought so far, I've put about 5 hours into 2 of them (disgaea 5, mk8d) because I have other games I'm more interested in playing. If those 2 games were on any other platform I own I would've put the exact same amount of time in.

Not even close at the moment, for me. I like the idea of the Switch, but I'm one of the few disappointed in it. My view isn't popular, but I think from a games perspective it was the worst console launch yet. Basically, we got Zelda, a Mario Kart remake, and Indie games. The selection hasn't expanded much and the games have been slow to come in compared to the Xbox and PS4 launches. The damn games library needs to expand more. Until then, I probably won't even pick up the thing anymore. For now, Xbox looks to be my primary console for the foreseeable future.

Nope. Likely never will be either. Play far too much Siege and Paragon for the Switch to take over as my main console.

It's a Nintendo machine for me, but I'll likely get some other games on it that fit the portability of the machine as they come out.

It already is for me. It's the only console I can play without losing sleep. Even though I lapsed and bought Horizon for my PS4 I'm trying to buy and play less on it because I don't have the time to game in front of a TV. It also helps that I love my Switch. Amazing system that won't disappoint the way my Vita did years ago.

How many new Switch games were announced at E3? How many games are releasing for Switch in general? The PS4 release schedule is the complete opposite of Sony's. There's no freaking way Switch is taking gamers away from PS4.

The complete lack of new games announced for Switch at E3 on top of the already paultry current selection of software available is truly unfortunate and disappointing to me. I know Reggie said more unannounced games are coming this year, but if he hats true, I think I misunderstand the point of a E3 presentation I thought it was designed to show its consumers what's next.
