He was the physical manifestation of white guilt, so the voters probably related a lot more to him.The academy has a hard on for Christoph Waltz. I didn't think he was better than either Leo or Jackson in Django.

how the FUCK Samuel L Jackson didn't get nominated in that movie
like c'mon now...they gon have to make up that shit in Hateful Eight, which I heard he and Jennifer Jason Leigh have the biggest parts(I also heard its 3+ hours with an intermission and an overture, because Tarantino)
He wasn't even nominated! Criminal.Him losing best supporting actor in Django Unchained cemented that they were trolling.
Jim Carrey's never even been nominated. His performances for The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, and Eternal Sunshine were brilliant. And they didn't even nominate him
He should have won one in 2013. If it wasn't for his costar and Daniel Day Lewis. Bad luck.
This might be his year, a lot of so called award films like Steve Jobs are tanking.
There's no maybe about it. I've never liked his acting and I don't think he's that good. I'm actually surprised he's gotten that many nominations. Popularity nominations I suppose.
It wouldn't surprise me if he never wins an Oscar.
lol what 3 hours?
No way. I can believe there being a cut that is 3 hours however no way is a theater version going to be 3+ hours.

The reviews that pan it have been very critical of Fassbender. That is what I meant. I edited it to be clear.A (unreleased!!) movie w/ a 91 on RT is tanking?
I agree 100%
I'm baffled by his adoration by some.
Why not? There have been some lengthy westerns previously released in theaters.
I find Waltz to be a one trick pony honestly. Maybe he'll prove me wrong with Spectre.

Will be the first time he loses to Tom Hardy.I think The Revenant is going to change it all for Leo.
Will be the first time he loses to Tom Hardy.
The only year Leo was nominated for a great performance was Wolf of Wall Street, and he's still only my 3rd favorite from the list, behind Ejiofor and McConaughey(who won).
The Leo Oscar meme is some weird joke the mainstream latched onto because he's the most popular actor they actually recognize who actively tries really hard to appear in popular prestige pictures they actually heard of. Its not like he's being robbed or anything.
Shit, it's a bigger sin that Sigourney Weaver hasn't won.

No, they were trolling Peter O'Toole. Leo, he's pretty young and there's plenty of time to mature. Maybe he should stop playing unlikeable rich playboys for awhile.

^ Why do this back to back?
Besides Catch me if you can and arguably Blood Diamond, I really don't know of any role he's had where I considered his performance. He comes off as flat in most performances.
It's crazy to me that this many people think Leo is just a mediocre actor. I've greatly enjoyed every movie I've seen him in. I can't say that for many other actors. Maybe only Tom Hanks.
Man I didnt know we had so many acting experts on this site..
Like ya'll have a damn clue.
The man is still nominated which suggests a damn good acting performance. Seriously he's been a part of some of the biggest and most memorable films of all time. You don't get his roles by being a shit actor.
I'd be his biggest fan if the day he actually wins an Oscar, he pulls a Sacheen Littlefeather/Marlon Brando and rejects the statue.
Too bad he cares too much.
Ehh, I think that's more of an internet meme then anything else. I don't think Leo has ever mentioned it.
At the end of the day he's gonna get his "apology Oscar" for a role that isn't necessarily his best.
Leo is the epitome of mediocrity. Puts on very elaborate costumes, affects okay accents, yet never is able to make one come even close to forgetting that it's Leonardo Dicaprio you're watching. Very little grace in his physical mannerisms, very little subtlety or depth to his characterization, no ability to truly elevate a role beyond what's on the page.

I like Leo allot but he is not a great actor. A good actor but not a great actor
