Is the Academy trolling Leo with the Oscars?

C'mon now, at least Leo won the Golden Globe for best Actor in a Comedy or Musical (Wolf on Wall Street) lol

Someone's definitely trolling the DiCaprio/Scorsese combo

Glenn Close has never won an oscar?! Holy shit; that seems awful.

He needs to play a disabled person who overcomes his handicap 'against all odds' or some other cliché shit the academy seems to have a hard-on for.
Of course he can't go full retard..

Didnt Leo go agentless in the 90's, which pissed off alot of people in the business? I always figured that had something to do with it.

Leo was fucking brilliant in Django but even better in Gilbert Grape. Such a great actor with range. Gilbert Grape is one of the best movies ever.

My problem was DiCaprio has always remained the same, that I can always see the “strain” he’s using to be in the Serious Dramatic Role. The way he furrows his brow, his exaggerated hand gestures, the way he grits his teeth all showy…its all an act. There’s always something uneasy and phony about his performances, always trying really hard to be taken seriously, not comfortable in his own skin. When Joaquin Phoenix just about chokes a man in The Master, I believe he is this character. When Fassbender is about to whip Patsy in 12 Years a Slave, you can see it in his face how many conflicting emotions and motivations are in his head, he’s that natural. When Leo scrawls about in Django chewing on all the scenery, or furrows that brow of his when his increasingly frantic pleading to Mal in Inception, there’s always a disconnect between me and his performance as this character. No matter how fat make-up he puts on, or how long his beard gets, he’s always that kid from Titanic trying really really hard to play as an adult.

Thats why his best roles are the ones where his character is “acting” in a role. The DiCaprio Strain is played to its advantage. In Catch Me If You Can, his Frank Abginale Jr. is a scared boy who pretends to be doctors and pilots. In the Departed, his Billy Costigan Jr. has to pretend to be this hotheaded gangster. And in the Wolf of the Wall Street(the only time I think his performance was the best of the year’s nominees), his Jordan Belfort is a young stockbroker who pretends to selling a goldmine to the many suckers of America through his phony but fascinating pitches. Its a shame he does so much “serious” material, because his greatest gift is how charming he can be.

I see the same thing in the Revenant trailers already. He's doing all his "IM A SERIOUS ACTOR" tricks, that big fake grimace of teeth when he yells "BACK TO THE BOAT!", the furrowing of the eyebrows he saw Robert De Niro do once, the pouting, the intense whispering...I don't buy it. I do not buy him as this character, as this rugged trapper. It's phony. Its even worse because Tom Hardy is right there, who just IS that character with those crazy eyes and confident body language.

He tries so hard that the academy is probably snubbing him knowingly.

Like, I don't know many standout movies where he had the best performance of the ensemble.

Right on the money. I never believe his acting to the same extent I do with Fassbender, Julianne Moore etc.

Not to mention that he feels a bit typecast. In The Departed and Shutter Island, he plays pretty much the same character. I watched those movies back to back once.

Same goes with Calvin Candie, Jordan Belfort or Jay Gatsby, who besides screenplay perform exact same mannerism, while the likes of Fassbender or Tom Hardy, you can tell they switch

You never go full retard.

Do you think we will see Tom Cruise win before Leo?

I'm honestly a little surprised that Tom Cruise has three nominations. I'm a big fan of most of his work and I think he seems like just the nicest guy, but I can only think of a couple of films which the Academy would probably even consider Oscar-worthy (Far and Away and Days of Thunder).

There's no maybe about it. I've never liked his acting and I don't think he's that good. I'm actually surprised he's gotten that many nominations. Popularity nominations I suppose.
It wouldn't surprise me if he never wins an Oscar.

well now that you declared it, no maybes about it!

Oh man, I hate to quote this post again, but it's right on the money. Well done.

Its funny that you mention Tom Hardy because I think your description of Leo fits him pretty well also.

Do you think we will see Tom Cruise win before Leo?

Nahh, Tom hasn't done any serious acting roles in a long time. He seems more than content on sticking with action-y movies for the foreseeable future.

I would certainly love to see him in another Magnolia type role though that would at least get him a nomination chance.

I think the fact Gary Oldman and Edward Norton have not yet won an Academy Award is more noteworthy.

The problem with Norton is that while he's a good actor, the movies he ends up doing just aren't good enough to get him into consideration, and haven't been for damn near a decade (outside of last year).

How are they trolling him? He should be honored to have as many nominations as he has for someone so young (for their standards). Especially when he only really deserved three nominations from them, with Gilbert Grape being the one he should have won for.

I think people are more obsessed about the oscars and leo than himself.

Especially since he is actually trolling humanity.

Does he have an Instagram I can follow? Dan Bilzerian
is getting kind of boring.

Leo does always come off as being Leo in his roles, but he is a great actor and has deserved an Oscar on a few occasions.

No, they were trolling Peter O'Toole. Leo, he's pretty young and there's plenty of time to mature. Maybe he should stop playing unlikeable rich playboys for awhile.

^ Why do this back to back?

Thank you! Yes he's got, but I'm not sure what exactly he's fine to convince people he's Oscar worthy. He just got really good at playing Howard Hughes and played few roles like that since. It's the same as George Clooney. He'll win after the stupid playing Michael Clayton too.

How does that day even happen and what happens at the end?

Leo looks up model phone book, let's party.

Does he sleep with them all or something.
