He wasn't even nominated! Criminal.
Glenn Close has never won an oscar?! Holy shit; that seems awful.
I thought he had an open beef with the Academy, hence him being ignored in nominations and stuff. Also surprised Johnny Depp has only been nominated 3 times. He has had some awesome roles even if he has mailed it in the past 5-10 years.
He's good but he's not GREAT
That's my reasoning.
My problem was DiCaprio has always remained the same, that I can always see the strain hes using to be in the Serious Dramatic Role. The way he furrows his brow, his exaggerated hand gestures, the way he grits his teeth all showy its all an act. Theres always something uneasy and phony about his performances, always trying really hard to be taken seriously, not comfortable in his own skin. When Joaquin Phoenix just about chokes a man in The Master, I believe he is this character. When Fassbender is about to whip Patsy in 12 Years a Slave, you can see it in his face how many conflicting emotions and motivations are in his head, hes that natural. When Leo scrawls about in Django chewing on all the scenery, or furrows that brow of his when his increasingly frantic pleading to Mal in Inception, theres always a disconnect between me and his performance as this character. No matter how fat make-up he puts on, or how long his beard gets, hes always that kid from Titanic trying really really hard to play as an adult.
Thats why his best roles are the ones where his character is acting in a role. The DiCaprio Strain is played to its advantage. In Catch Me If You Can, his Frank Abginale Jr. is a scared boy who pretends to be doctors and pilots. In the Departed, his Billy Costigan Jr. has to pretend to be this hotheaded gangster. And in the Wolf of the Wall Street(the only time I think his performance was the best of the years nominees), his Jordan Belfort is a young stockbroker who pretends to selling a goldmine to the many suckers of America through his phony but fascinating pitches. Its a shame he does so much serious material, because his greatest gift is how charming he can be.
I see the same thing in the Revenant trailers already. He's doing all his "IM A SERIOUS ACTOR" tricks, that big fake grimace of teeth when he yells "BACK TO THE BOAT!", the furrowing of the eyebrows he saw Robert De Niro do once, the pouting, the intense whispering...I don't buy it. I do not buy him as this character, as this rugged trapper. It's phony. Its even worse because Tom Hardy is right there, who just IS that character with those crazy eyes and confident body language.

Do you think we will see Tom Cruise win before Leo?
He needs to play a disabled person who overcomes his handicap 'against all odds' or some other cliché shit the academy seems to have a hard-on for.
Of course he can't go full retard..

There's no maybe about it. I've never liked his acting and I don't think he's that good. I'm actually surprised he's gotten that many nominations. Popularity nominations I suppose.
It wouldn't surprise me if he never wins an Oscar.
never go half retardYou never go full retard.

Thats irrelevant. Him being known for comedies is a bigger factor. Academy has a very blatant anti-comedy bias.
I'm legit shocked that Glenn Close hasn't won one yet...
I think people are more obsessed about the oscars and leo than himself.

Especially since he is actually trolling humanity.

Its funny that you mention Tom Hardy because I think your description of Leo fits him pretty well also.
Jim Carrey's never even been nominated. His performances for The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, and Eternal Sunshine were brilliant. And they didn't even nominate him

I think the fact Gary Oldman and Edward Norton have not yet won an Academy Award is more noteworthy.

so long as he's associated with that cult , the academy will NEVER give him one, earned or not

No, they were trolling Peter O'Toole. Leo, he's pretty young and there's plenty of time to mature. Maybe he should stop playing unlikeable rich playboys for awhile.

^ Why do this back to back?
Nope. In inglorious basterds, sure. But not djangoThe academy has a hard on for Christoph Waltz. I didn't think he was better than either Leo or Jackson in Django.

I love how film is perceived by the average spectator.
