I'm not going to get into this debate, but I really really REALLY fucking hate patriotism. I never quite understood the idea of being proud of being born somewhere. Pride comes from an accomplishment. Being born somewhere isn't pride, it's luck. Be happy that you are born an american if you must, but don't act like it's an honor you deserve. Besides, as an extra irony, americans are all just immigrants from europe besides native Indians of course.
Second, I don't think posters like Lunchbox realize that the main reason that America is so invincible is purely and simply geography. America is a nation surrounded by water on 2 sides and doctile nations on the other two. Then, far more advance eupropeans land in america and claim it as their own from a nation of far less advanced indian tribes. America is essentially un-invadable because it maintains such a stronghold while still being technologically advanced than others. It's why they actually could fight off the british empire for their freedom. The Land. That's why you were allowed to advance as much as you were. You spawned on the best possible position on a totally broken map.
And what really grates me more than anything is the attitude about it all. Lunchbox's post says it all. Apparently, Europe never contributed anything to the world besides hitler and Stalin while America is the land of sunshine and dreams. The best part about that post is that America is solely responsible for defeating the Germans. Yes, they're assistance was important, but it's hardly like the Allies were doomed until the US got off it's ass.
Frankly, I believe that the world would be a much more interesting place if America didn't reign as a total superpower that control every facet of the world. And people like lunchbox act as if this is such an accomplishment by them personally because Americans are 'just better', when in reality its just dumb luck that allowed them a position of power, and then proceed to bolster their ego by focusing only on their achievements, and disregarding everyone elses. I really don't see how this is any better than a rich kid telling everyone how much better he is because he was born into a rich family. Yes, the US is in first place in most things, I admit that, but that doesn't make America flawless, nor does it make other countries useless.
