Kid Icarus Uprising is a 3D game and it's the sequel to a platformer.
And there are areas where you jump around between platforms. ...by the use of jump pads, but hey.
It's not even close to a platformer. There are the occasional jump pad bits, but it is definitely an action game.Kid Icarus Uprising is a 3D game and it's the sequel to a platformer.

Dare I say this is worse than the "it's not a 3D Mario!!!" Arguments?I consider Sunshine a Mario game, the same way Luigi's Mansion is a Mario game, It's not.

You say this like there is wide consensus on 3D Land bring a weak or disliked entry when this isn't the case. It got a broad amount of critical and player praise, sold well, and lots of people like myself consider it one of the finest 3D Mario games ever made.
Like any Mario entry, it has its detractors, but "easily considered" is pretty hyperbolic.
I have to echo this sentiment too. Sunshine is an incredible game. It has so much personality and was a creative twist to the 3D formula. I think it's great and overly maligned.I would venture to say that while indeed Sunshine has a lot of valid criticisms, it's remembered pretty fondly by the lot of the people who liked it. 3D Land is a very great game, but upon replaying it, I found it lacking something. I also didn't like the fact that 3D Land's second area reused a lot of stuff, though I can't say that it wasn't fun.

3D Land, while very fun, feels somewhat empty and overprocessed. It's basically a 2D mario game that they turned into a 3D game, and like the NSMB series, it features sterile, lifeless graphics and enemies.
If you have a Vita as well then you should get Daxter. It's a PSP game, but has aged very well and is a ton of fun!
Worst part is, even while 3D Land is a very good game, the only 3D platformer the 3DS has is the one that is easily considered the weakest 3D Mario.
That's odd.. I don't remember it lagging on mine at all. I think it ran quite smoothly, but I haven't played it on a PSP for comparison.Just to note, I tried Daxter on my Vita and it laaaged.
Same, both seem more like off shoots similar to Wario World or Captain Toad. Which is fine btw...
- Sonic Lost World 3DS (didn't played it)

To anyone saying Sonic Lost World, this is a thread asking for good 3D platformers.
I disagree, at 35 and having grown up as an original era Nintendo kid of the 80's (having also had all of the Nintendo consoles after); 3D Land is easily my favorite.
3DLand and Mario 3.
That entire genre is pretty much dead on any platform these days.
No-one knows it, but Pac-Man & The Ghostly Adventures 2 on 3DS is actually a 3D platformer and a faithful port of the console version.

Don't even bother, Jak trilogy is unplayable, Ratchet is barely a platformer (or at least not what you are looking for if you want a real platformer) and Sly has always been kind of mediocre imo (the first one is all right though).I have a Vita, don't those have awful framerates due to being PS3 downports rather than PS2 up ports?
It's not exactly a full-on platformer but I mean Ratchet and Clank just came out this month.
Gamers have been playing 3D platformers without a second stick for decades. That has nothing to do with anything.Grab a vita it's got Jak, Ratchet, Sly cooper, etc. I think it's quite hard to make a 3d platformer without a second stick so that's probably why.

Well, there's also Sonic Generations, which, even if we assumed it was a platformer (which I find arguable), had its serious performance issues.

And Dexter is not good. Not even by 2006 PSP standards.

By the way, everybody forgot about Crush3D.
One of the worst 3D Sonic games
It's not very good IMO, the Wii episode was better.Check out Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Taikai.

The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and His Square Mind is a 3D puzzle-platformer (but it doesn't skimp on the platforming) and I rather like it. I haven't finished it yet, but so far its pretty good, and I can unreservedly rave about its great soundtrack.
its one of those hidden gems on the eShop that doesn't get nearly enough attention (and probably sales for that matter).
Was wondering about this one as well. But I guess it's as much of a platformer as Ocarina of Time.I didn't play it, but there is Lego City Undercover.
R&c are more acion shooters than platformers imoIf you have a Vita, there's Tearaway & ports of Sly Cooper and the aforementioned Ratchet & Clank.
My Vita also has the Crash Bandicoot games since I was lucky enough to download them during the 24-hours or so where everything that you owned on the PSN could be downloaded to the Vita (grabbed Brave Story also while I was at it).![]()

But it is good. It's not GREAT, but it's decently good fun.
I loved Sonic Lost World U.
Considering that, is it still bad ?
Sonic Generations is a 2D game, definitely a platformer, and doesn't have serious performance issues.
Bah, totally forgot the 3d requirement, my bad. But the game has glaring performance issues. As re whether it's a platformer, let's say it's non-traditional.The 3ds version has classic and sonic rush gameplay,no 3d.
It applies to both, tgey arent 3D mario but they are 3d platformers.Just wait until you see the people try to convince you it's not a 3D Mario!
Or did that only apply to 3D World?
