Is this a good plan of attack for losing weight?

Keto is great for people that hate cardio. I'm on day 3 myself, after I hit ketosis around day 2 I started losing weight really fast. I lost 3 lbs since yesterday. And I haven't even hit the gym since 4 days ago. I had keto flu for a little bit but I think I'm over it. Shits are really weird though.

dont lift heavy weights you should do a little cardio, go on a high incline on a treadmill and walk at a speed of 4 nice and slow but gets the heart rate up. As for the weights if you want to loose weight dont lift heavy do resistance training, lift light and do more sets

You have to keep trying different methods. I tried various tricks and settled on walking (I hate running) 10k steps a days and it got me down from 188 to 180. After I reached 180lb, no matter how much I walked, my weight just won't go down. At one point I walked to work for 5 days straight and it was a 100 min walk.

So I went back to do the chew gum when I feel hungry thing. Surprisingly this time it worked. I can really just chew gum during the work day and not feel hunger. I can delay my lunch to around 5pm and after that I pretty much don't need to eat any more. So I have lost another 3-4 pounds.

I am going to keep doing this until it stop working and I will try something else.

Also, more fruits.

Dude, you can't lose 3lb of fat in 24 hours unless you use a knife.

As others have said, forget this whole 'lose 15 pounds' crap. If you're gonna lift weights, chances are you'll gain weight as fat turns to muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, that's how it is.

So if you hate cardio and just wanna lift, go for it. But don't check the scale for your progress. You'll be able to see progress in other ways, like when your man-boobs start feeling like pecs, and your flabby parts start to tone up.

Judge your progress by how you look in the mirror and how you fill out your clothes.

So I'm trying to lose about 15 pounds. The problem is that I fucking hate cardio (including HIIT cardio). I'm trying to lose this weight solely by lifting weights and a good diet. My plan is to eat 2000 calories and do lots of compound lifts, complemented by drop-set isolation exercises.

My thought is that the more muscles I have the more calories I'll burn, and it'll allow to eat a few more carbs. I just want to avoid doing cardio altogether.

Any thoughts?

HIIT cardio in addition to the things you mentioned. I was a little skeptical but here's a systematic review with the results: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2991639/

According to a few of the studies. 1 hour per week of HIIT was equivalent to about 10 hours per week of moderate intensity exercise for fat loss. The article above also details the mechanism by which they believe this occurs. Fascinating stuff. Since then I've done about 6 weeks of HIIT and lost about 6 pounds. In the process of doing another 6 weeks to do the same or more.

I lost about 70 pounds over the course of 9 months, it was simply portion control and better food choices. I made no changes to my exercise routine. By doing those 2 things, I've kept that weight off for over 2 years.

I must be eating too many carbs still cos I am going to the gym daily and I have greatly reduced my carb intake. I am losing about 2-2.5Kg a week

Bro you should really consider hiit man, its really fun.

I would say HIIT is fun but it's way more efficient. Less time involved with greater benefits than traditional cardio makes it a no brainer [if you're just trying to be healthy and lose weight].

You might lose fat but I'm not sure how much weight you'll actually lose if you're replacing that fat with muscle. But what do I know, I only do cardio.

Fat doesn't actually turn into muscle.

Every pound of muscle you gain burns 6.5 calories per hour, not a ton but adds up over a long time (in comparison a pound of fat burns about 1.3).

Lifting weights when eating at a calorie deficit doesn't magically make you bulky, it's impossible due to thermodynamics. If you time your meals in an intermittent fasting way you kinda can build muscle while losing fat but it's not going to make you put on tons of muscle fast.

Calories in/calories out and track your weight.

Everything else is either a good way to burn more/eat less or simply snake oil.

Do some real research and don't listen to the fatlogic people are spouting in here hurr durr muscle weighs more than fat, muscle isn't some/magically by product of moving your fat Jesus Christ people.

The only way this could be worse advice would be if you asked him to eat 4 candy bars and a mcd's meal before and after every workout.

How do people use this myfitnesspal all? How do I put custom meals in there if I don't know the calories or anything. Like if I make a sandwich for lunch of take some leftovers how do I enter that without the nutritional value?

Im doing something pretty stupid lately but it seems to be working.

Not working out (I simply dont have time between work and 2 babies).

In the morning having a vegetable/fruit blend that I do at home with a blender, just throw apples, carrots spinach, kale, etc. NO SUGAR other than the one in the fruits.

Rest of the day, no solid foods, just protein shakes when I feel hungry, as soon as I get hungry I drink a protein shake, usually have around 4 through the day, each one is 120 calories.

At night I have a huge meal of good food: grilled veggies, a mountain of beans and 3 chicken thighs or equivalent breast. No sauces, just grilled with pepper, lemon, salt, etc.

Been losing around a pound a day for the last 2 weeks, not sure how long it will be sustainable for.

lose soda

i cut 7 pounds in 15 days doing just that.

Yup, soda and energy drinks (energy drinks are by far the worst) make you very, very fat.

Cutting calories, eating healthy, and lifting alone will make you lose a lot of fat, but some cardio in addition to that? You will be the don in a few months.

Eat less. Spent the summer in Asia where portion sizes are smaller. No change in eating habits (other than size) lead me to losing 10lbs. I was hungry a lot for the first couple weeks, but you get used to it. Add in some WALKING (not cardio), and you'll lose it fast.

You can lose weight like this, but it's generally not a great idea to go to real low caloric intake while you're starting to lift, you need that energy to build muscles.
Try to cut sugar from your diet, it's not as hard as you think and it will help your health greatly, even beyond losing weight. If you stress eat, make sure you got nuts or vegetable to snack on.
Also, try to get more of your calories from protein than carbs (I wouldn't go atkins, not a fan a drastic diets, but not eating pastas random breads is a good idea).

But honestly, I think your best bet is to get over the whole "I don't like cardio", yeah, it may not be fun when you start, but trust me, stick with it and you'll learn to love it, maybe not much before you start it, but in the broad sense you will. Just suck it up, it worth it.

It's not as hard as you may think to train yourself to not eat food. Basically just stay super busy and eat only one meal a day, it's all you need to survive anyways. Before very long you'll have start to have no desire for food (it may even disgust you) and you'll only force something down on occasion for sustenance. I've been able to drop like 20 lb's in a month doing this.

HIIT is the shit for cardio improvements and weight loss. I took up a boxing class that incorporated HIIT exercises. I only did it 2 days a week but over the course of 2 years I dropped almost 4 stone. If id doen it more often, the weight would've dropped off me even faster. And the boxing has me fit as hell, more muscular than ive ever been in my entire life, and a massive confidence boost cause I now know how to properly defend myself should I ever get attacked. Also doing boxing drills and stuff is crazy fun, so much better than your average workout

This. I still try to get in 3 meals a day however sometimes I do forget or I'm too busy that I skip a meal.

It's like I literally have control over my hunger, it's awesome.

Boxing is just fantastic, period. can't recommend it enough.

I wasn't actually suggesting fat becomes muscle, just that if you're adding muscle faster or as fast as you lose fat you're not going to be 'losing' any weight. But don't let that stop you from being a dick.

I've been doing weight training and running about two miles a day or the equivalent of that on an elliptical for about six months, four times a week now and though I've increased my strength considerably and my stamina as well I actually gained about five pounds...putting me in the obese category in terms of bmi.

Buy some psyllium husk powder. Drink a single serving (read the label) per day. If that doesn't help after two days, up it to two servings per day, one in the morning one at night.

And just eat more greens as well. They have the fiber your body needs to help deal with the loads of cheese and meat.

I guess I should mention that I don't drink soda. I eat fairly healthy, the problem is that I'm very often stressed out and I resort to sweets, which fatten me up like crazy. Also, I don't want to be cardio skinny, I want to be muscular slim.

I figured that compound lifts would burn a crapload of calories and doing drop-set isolated exercises could replace cardio (to an extent)

I'm 5'7", 165 pounds.

How old are you? I don't think 165 is a bad weight for your height, but also depends on your age. I'm 5'10'', 170, 25 years old, although a decent amount of that is muscle.

Like others said, just try and not resort to sweets. When I'm stressed, instead of gourging on food, I go to the gym, it's a great stress reliever.

You just have to do your best, measure all the component ingredients and quantities as best you can, and save the meals you have frequently so they're easier to enter again next time.

It's obvious but not drinking beer was the best thing for me when it came to losing weight. That followed by decent portion control and a walk everyday at lunch helped me lose 2.5 stone (Roughly 16 Kilos).

Your diet is going to be the most important factor. I you have that in check and are lifting as well then you shouldn't necessarily need cardio, but I'd still factor some in. Maybe 2x a week, 30 minutes.

As other have mentioned muscle weighs more than fat so don't be disheartened if the scale isn't moving as quick as you'd like. Hopefully that just means you're building muscle!
