The real question is at what point you pulled Doki Doki Panic into the chain of conversation.TruePrime said:Unless I am mistaken, Doki Doki Panic is actually Mario 2 Usa, they just swapped out the sprites and gave it a new ending and released it in america as Mario 2.

I had mentioned it because Odrion had mentioned in a post and then edited it as I was posting, and unless I am mistaken it seemed as though he was saying Doki Doki Panic was the prequel to Mario 2 Usa and said I don't know if we could call it a prequel considering it is really the same game.Segata Sanshiro said:The real question is at what point you pulled Doki Doki Panic into the chain of conversation.
Ah, I see. A stealth edit. No wonder it was confusing.TruePrime said:I had mentioned it because Odrion had mentioned in a post and then edited it as I was posting, and unless I am mistaken it seemed as though he was saying Doki Doki Panic was the prequel to Mario 2 Usa and said I don't know if we could call it a prequel considering it is really the same game.

Actually though, SMB2 is more than just a character sprite-swap with Doki Doki Panic. I would definitely not say it's a sequel, but they did change a lot and even added some bosses.
TruePrime said:Woah there, where is the Wario World for Gamecube? Wouldn't it be along the same path as the Lands before it much like Mario World and Land?
Nuclear Muffin said:No, Wario World has absolutely nothing to do with the Wario Land series at all. (or do we count the Wario Ware games as part of the WL series now?)
Wario World isn't a platformer though. It's a beat-em-up.TruePrime said:Why wouldn't we? It's not like we don't count Mario Galaxy because he is suddenly in space or Sunshine because he went to a island that didn't exist before hand.
As it stands Wario Land Shake It is so out there and crazy I don't see why we wouldn't count Wario World so long as it is a Wario Platformer.
It's both, actually. There is plenty of platforming in the game.Segata Sanshiro said:Wario World isn't a platformer though. It's a beat-em-up.

I have no idea. I don't really worry too much about this stuff, particularly when it comes to the shitty games no one should care about like Wario World and Yoshi's Story. You're the one that stipulated that it counted because it was a platformer.TruePrime said:Okay, well in that case fair enough. I always considered it to be one but if not alright.
But even with that being the case how is it does that make it so it isn't a main Wario game when we are willing to call Yoshi's Island a main Mario game even though you don't control Mario for the most part?
I guess it has to be a pure platformer or it doesn't count?

Basically, I consider it a Wario game. I also consider the Wario Land series Wario games. I also consider Warioware Wario games. Then I make little subdivisions in my head, not unlike what I do for Yoshi (Yoshi's Touch n Go, Yoshi Topsy Turvey, Yoshi's Story, and the Yoshi's Island games) and Mario (3D Marios that suck mooseballs, 2D Marios, and Super Mario Galaxy games).TruePrime said:Shitty games don't discredit them though. Devil May Cry 2 still exists even if we like to act that it doesn't.
And I do think it has enough elements in to question if it is not an extension of the Wario Land games, I don't see what is wrong with that.
If it shouldn't be counted then don't but I don't see how it is wrong to at least ask why it wasn't included.
mclem said:His last line was about the Wario Ware series, which have a *completely* different gameplay style to any of the platformers. Also, I think Wario World was rather closer to a brawler than a platformer, so the questions are pretty valid.
Is Portal a Half-Life game?
I think the problem here is that "Mario game" refers to two things; it can mean a game in the Mario universe, which YI definitely is (and Portal appears to be in the Half-Life universe), or it can mean a game that shares gameplay with the archetypal mario game; while to a layman Portal might look just like Half-Life (you have a gun in a first person view!), when you dig deeper you can tell that the game does play rather significantly differently.
In short - Yoshi's Island is Mario with the basics of gunplay (okay, eggplay) in it, which does change the gameplay significantly at fundamental levels.
In other words - and I can't believe I'm saying this with a straight face - Yoshi's Island is to the Mario series what Shadow the Hedgehog is to the Sonic series.
Kinda stands on its own. Like Mario Kart.TruePrime said:That's all well and good, I had already left the Yoshi's Island debate behind when I said I believe that if Yoshi's Island should be counted then Wario Land 1 should be as well.
My question was should Wario World be considered a main line Wario game in the line of Wario Land.
As it stands if we seperate Wario Land and Wario Ware then where does Wario World stand? Besides being a piece of shit.

In my opinion it's this way:

With Wario Land and Yoshis Island being branching titles which belong to both, the Mario (Land) series and their respective titular hero's series.

ive played the hell out of most mario games, and for me, super mario bros 3 and super mario world are the absolute best mario games ever created, bar none. i have much respect for the other games, but for those two, they are the cream of the crop. as for mario world 2...well, i think its one of the worst.
also, just to make myself clear - when i say worst game in the series, it doesnt necessarily mean its a horrible game in general. its like how zelda 2: the adventure of link is one of the worst zelda games in the series (for me at least), but its not a bad game by any means. they just werent enjoyable for me.
And today they released a video retrospective for SMB's 25th anniversary and it was omitted, so yeah.A Link to the Snitch said:In a sales comparison, Nintendo put all of the main Mario titles on a little graph. SMW2 was there, so yeah

Yoshi's Island SNES: a yoshi game and there's baby mario + "mario" written on the box.
Yoshi's Island 2/DS: a yoshi game and there's baby mario but "mario" not written on box.
So according to GAF's logic, it's the "mario" written on the box that decides. That's what I find funny. Unless you mean that the games in the "yoshi line" as the guy call it still are "Mario games".

There's justifiable reasoning here on both ends, which is probably why we can talk about it for a bunch of pages.
You sound like you're bitter at GAF for some reason. You're trying to frame the argument as the All-Intelligent All-Wise Ranger (who happens to post at GAF, a true prince among the slums) vs. STUPID NEO-GAF THAT MAKES EVERYTHING STUPID WITH ITS STUPID FACE. If you hate Stupid NeoGAF so much and you're so much better, the door's that way, man.
