Doesn't this beg the question with a relatively simplistic calculation? Does America /gain/ friends by half-assing the original Fallujah operation?

What was half-ass about the original Fallujah operation, that we didn't bomb the city into embers? Killing large numbers of innocents simply doesn't win you any friends and tends to breed enemies.

For one thing, we gave an enormous amount of warning before we went in, ensuring that the high-profile targets we were seeking there fled with those civilians who could flee at the time. Further, we've had to come back repeatedly--which, I'm sure, is only winning more friends and breeds no new enemies, natch. The second part of your quote is simply you repeating your rote argument w/o addressing any of the legitimate questions I'm raising here.

Seriously, the US diplomacy stall tactic to give Israel more time has backfired. Now when the US finally wants to speed up diplomacy, no Arab leader will let Condi on their soil and now she's not even welcome in Lebanon after today's Israeli attack. I just love our country's foreign policy decisions.

Hezbollah was firing rockets from around the building which was typical as the video released showed and the concussion from targeting it flattened it unfortunately. Typical Hezbollah tactics.

THIS is the picture that damns Hezbollah. It is one of several, smuggled from behind Lebanon's battle lines, showing that Hezbollah is waging war amid suburbia.

The images, obtained exclusively by the Sunday Herald Sun, show Hezbollah using high-density residential areas as launch pads for rockets and heavy-calibre weapons.

Dressed in civilian clothing so they can quickly disappear, the militants carrying automatic assault rifles and ride in on trucks mounted with cannon.

The photographs, from the Christian area of Wadi Chahrour in the east of Beirut, were taken by a visiting journalist and smuggled out by a friend.

I missed the last 38 pages, so could someone please update me:

Anyone still supporting isreal (besides joke characters), if so, how is that possible? Is it still a no-no to accuse someone of being a viral marketer, because the american-funded isreali army has enough money to hire one

Asking questions is anti-semitic.

so those 10 million/bomb precision guided technology is of no use? Israel released a video today of it, they released it of a vehicle firing rockets in the outskirts of Qana, and said a vehicle just like this was 60 yards from the building, they however refused to release the bombing of today

How far is Israel's dick really up your ass Ripclawe? Its amazing it hasnt split you in two yet.

Can someone post a summary of all Riplclawe's posts of 'Hezbollah was around the building' when Israel massacres a large group of civilians?

I'd do it but I don't have the time, plus it would make me vomit. So when does this excuse expire, how many deaths does it justify, and how does it absolve Isarel of any and all repsonsibility? How long until people stop usiong it as a 'get out free' card? I don't care how many ****ing hezbollah were around the bulding, we're way beyond the point of these deaths being acceptable. WHat if there was double those killed? Triple? Its an irrelevant question to you, as the 'there was a couple hezbollah guys there' line cleans everything up nice and tidy. Sickening.

Un-****ing-believable.

EDIT: 37 children killed, not 19.

:lol

Even Israel didn't use the "Hezbollah was using the building" excuse this time. They called the attack on the building a "mistake" and stated that it will be looked into(which is bullshit of course).

Iran forces urged to prepare to hit Israel

TEHRAN (Reuters) -
Iran's hardline forces should get ready to take revenge on
Israel and the United States for the offensive on Lebanon, the head of the Revolutionary Guards was quoted as saying on Sunday.

"The Basij and Revolutionary Guards should prepare to get even with the Zionists and Americans," Yahya Rahim-Safavi was quoted as telling Islamic militiamen by the conservative Fars news agency.

The Basij are volunteer Islamic militiamen.

"The timing of the this will be announced by the leader," he added.

An Israeli air strike killed 54 civilians, including 37 children in the southern Lebanese village of Qana on Sunday, the bloodiest single attack since Israel's 19-day-old war on Lebanese Hizbollah guerrillas began.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards are historically close to Hizbollah and were deployed in south Lebanon during the 1980s. Mostafa Chamran, spiritual father of the Guards, forged his reputation fighting in Lebanon.

The Basij and Revolutionary Guards are directly answerable to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Although Iran funded and armed Hizbollah in the 1980s, it has insisted recently its support is mainly moral and political.

However, many sources have said Iranian arms are being used against Israeli civilian and military targets.

An Israeli military source has said an Iranian-made C802 radar-guided land-to-sea missile with a range of 60 miles (95 km) hit and badly damaged a ship during Israel's offensive against Lebanon.

Hizbollah said it fired "Raad (Thunder) 2" and "Raad 3" rockets at a rail depot in Haifa. Raad missiles are Iranian.

Israel's army said it destroyed an Iranian-made Zelzal missile with range of between 74 and 99 miles before it was launched.

Oh man, what the **** :(

I feel terrible for the civillians on both sides, esp. for the Lebanese. They are suffering because of the piss-poor inadequacies of their own government not able to control a few thousand terrorists in their country (and the resultant Israelis' bombing). I mean, whose country is Lebanese, anyways? Is it the Hezbollah's or the Lebanese government? Why is Lebanon taken a hostage in this war between Hezbollah and Israel?

Israel should back-off with bombings now. It's not going to destroy Hezbollah just as Hezbollah will never destroy Israel. It's better to start talking peace, seriously.

Please, someone help me understand how this all started?

Did Hezbollah kidnapped or captured Israeli soldiers? On who's territory? Israel or Lebanon?

Did Hezbollah fire rockets after Israeli attacked them or prior?

I never Hezbollah was using the building, I said they put launchers near the building and the attack unfortunately destroyed the building. Big difference and this is typical Hezbollah S.O.P.

I'd do it but I don't have the time, plus it would make me vomit. So when does this excuse expire, how many deaths does it justify, and how does it absolve Isarel of any and all repsonsibility? I am of the mind if you attack any country first with rockets, kidnap 2 soldiers, kill 8 others, you have asked to be destroyed. Civilian deaths are unavoidable in this situation given the nature of a terrorist group like Hezbollah who fights as shown in pics above within civilian populations for scenarios like this to play out.

**** you Israel. What a bunch of ****ing terrorists

60 people where killed including 27 children while they were sleeping!!!!!!!

Is this justice???

And all of this "in the cause" to retrieve the two soldiers.

what about the thousands of innocent Palestinians locked up in Israeli prisons???? They are not humans??? Oh wait... They are terrorists :|

My cousin was shot in the eye 5 years ago in Ramallah. He lost his eye and the shot could have killed him. What was his crime??? He was taking his younger brother to school. Is this justice??

Later that year he was arrested and sentenced for 5 years in prison for "reportedly" jumping on an Israeli tank!!!! Tell me, is is even possible to jump on Israeli tanks????

This is what Israel does. They take the youth, lock them up, rob them of their life and they call it justice.

But when two Israeli soldiers are kidnapped, they invade lebanon, and claim that they are defending themselves.

haha i had avoided watching fox news thru this whole mess....i really did but since cnn is showing some special on "inside hezbolla" i for a second put it on fox news and bam....they are talking about how its possible hezbollah killed those children themselves and then put the bodies there or they purposely put kids in those bldgs so they would die.

i mean when hezbollah kills ppl its thier fault but when israel kills civilians its also hezbollahs fault. israel has a win win now.

I wonder how US/Israel and the media would have responded if the shoes were reversed, and Hezbollah did that to Israel?

It's a known fact Hezbollah was firing rockets from civilian buildings in this situation. There is video proof of it.

The press just seems to be supporting israel no matter what. Whenever you hear the anchor guys speaking they always start off by saying that hezbollah are the ones firing missles to kill innocent israeli's and israel are firing back to defend themselves, its never vice versa.

Hamas first kidnapped one soldier and Israel raided gaza and killed around 50-60 people

then Hizbollah kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers and killed 8 soldiers who were right on the border on the Israeli side and demanded to return Lebanese prisoners in return of these 2 soldiers

Then Israel Attacked southern lebanon, a few hours after Israel attacked souther lebanon, Hizbollah started firing Katyusha rockets into Israel.

You sound like Andrew Jackson, walking through a smoldering Indian village that he's just burnt down, around the dead bodies of Indian children, saying how he wants peace at any price.

The fact is that the only peace Israel is interested in is the kind that's on their own terms. You can't give up Gaza and now allow free passage. You can't blame Palestinians for wanting more when you don't check your own settlers. You can't blame another country for not fighting terrorists when you do everything to undermind their efforts.

Israeli government somehow thinks these rules don't apply to them, and I feel bad for the innocent civillian Israelis who are probably going to die for the glory of Olmert... just as much as I feel bad for the Lebanese people who've already died for it.

Thanks.

It's funny, because all I hear on mainstream media is if Hezbollah just return the 2 soldiers and stop firing their rockets @ Israel, then Israel will cease fire. /Yeah right!

Media paints this picture as if Hezbollah, just out of the blue, went ballistic and started firing rockets nonstop @ Israel. Well, that's the impression I get since I'm not really acquainted with the whole story.

Obviously, there's more to it than what's being reported...and things will not end until someone's agenda gets fulfilled.

:lol You're either racist, delusional, or insanely gullible. Take your pick. I can't fathom how you can watch CNN or fox news because, at this point, you're dealing with either pure fiction or blatant propaganda. Hell, the BBC and even sources like Ha'aretz piss all over our media's attempt at 'unbiased coverage' of what is quickly becoming a massacre. Notice how CNN spent 2-3 days talking about the two 5 year old kids in Haifa who were killed by Hezbullah rockets, yet are in full coverup/damage control mode when the IDF kills 37 kids in their sleep. I don't condone what Hezbullah did in the first place, kidnapping those soldiers, but honestly, whatever wrongs they've done are now completely overshadowed by the cluster**** this has become.

found this interesting piece on wikipedia:

Al-Qaeda's Wahhabist ideology considers Shia muslims as infidels, which it has demonstrated in suicide bombings and attacks on Shia targets in Iraq.[69] Hezbollah has publicly denied having any ties with al-Qaeda,[70] and many sources have reported no connection between Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda. [71][72] Zarqawi issued an audio recording where he called the Hezbollah an "enemy of Sunnis" and a "shield" for Israel,[73][74] for protecting Israel by preventing Palestinian attacks from Lebanon.

Nasrallah denies links to al-Qaeda, present or past. He attributes this to different areas of work and different enemies faced, Hezbollah's aim being the "confrontation of the Zionist plan." Bin Ladin’s focus has been Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Bosnia, and Chechnya, according to Nasrallah, "So we are talking about two different areas and battles facing two completely different enemies. This was the reason why there wasn't any contact."

Hezbollah has denounced some acts of terror, such as the September 11 attacks[citation needed], GIA massacres in Algeria, Armed Islamic Group attacks on tourists in Egypt[86], and the murder of Nick Berg. [87] However, it expresses support and sympathy[88] for the activities of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, Islamist groups responsible for suicide attacks and armed resistance in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Unavoidable? This strike was unavoidable? Yeah ok. So how many more Lebanese deaths are 'unavoidable'? I suppose the death perhaps of entire population is 'unavoidable' to you.

You're spineless, and an absolute disgrace to humankind. I asked after how many deaths you would hold Israel responsible for its action, and predictably you did not respond.
People with your sick mentality is why Israel is getting and will get away with this.

I can just imagine how Harper's gonna spin this one:

Harper: It was an honest mistake, it's not like they KIDNAPPED those children...I mean, that'd be grounds for bombing the whole country!
