It looks like PS3 cover banners are going blue

I wish they wouldn't do this. It really fucks up your collection visually.

Maybe it's to drive you towards your digital collection.

These labels are really something they should stick with over the course of the generation. Sony changed it on PSP once and now twice on PS3. Not a fan.

And that's not even counting the hideous Greatest Hits games.

They look good, really good in fact. But goddamn it.
I already have problems with the old spines and the new spines of the covers and now we are changing the covers color. That is going to annoy the shit out ot me.

This just makes me mad that Drakengard 3 is not playable on my PS4. Black was much better as it's fairly neutral and goes with any color scheme of any game's color. Blue clashes depending on what the cover looks like.

At least they aren't changing the boxes like they did with the PS1!

Looks alright, I guess... but I thought the PS3s definitive color scheme was red and black, and the PS4 and Vita blue and white.
Still pretty dumb to do it this late, it might also confuse people now that the PS3 and the PS4 games has same-ish banners.

And my collection is going to look even messier now, yay.

Sucks for people who collect games. Now there are the OG boxarts with Playstation 3 along the left, then the black banner at the top, then thered banners for greatest hits, and now blue banners

It looks cool, but IMO it makes more sense to keep the black for PS3 and blue for PS4. Helps them stand apart and makes it obvious which games are for which system.

It's pretty good, and I understand that Sony is trying to unify the Playstation brand by going all blue on everything.

Plus these console bundles don't look half bad either.

Now more than ever we're going to need the help of those awesome Gaffers in the original covers thread.

I wish I knew how to do that stuff, it seems so easy but it's hard :(

I really dislike the gradient. Should be a solid blue.

Also, yeah, this seems like it could get a bit confusing. I mean, I'm sure people understand the difference between "PS3" and "PS4", but at a glance they're going to look extremely similar.

Pretty happy I'm not planning on picking up anymore PS3 games then, my collection is abit of a mess already from when they changed the branding once. I purposely don't get a game that comes in a funny box or steelbook so it doesn't mess up my collection anymore than they are already.

Hopefully Sony don't mess around with the PS4 cases.

This idea is both terrible and unnecessary.
Seems to be a trick to get retailers to stock PS3 games along with their PS4 sections instead of sticking them in a back corner somewhere.

You OCD types could just organize your collections by spine type alphabetically...? I don't know, just a thought. i don't even notice the difference in spine to be honest. Or at least, not enough to be a concern.

Interesting that this appears to have a black border still. I'm holding out hope!

This wouldn't of been as bad if the PS4 was backward compatible , you know someone with a PS4 is gonna accidentally buy a PS3 game thinking it will work.

Don't really care about the color, though I do find those "Only on Playstation/Xbox/etc" banners on the upper corners of box art a bit tacky. I'm not going to pretend it's a big deal to me, but I liked when Sony didn't bother with those in the PS2 and early PS3 days. Just makes the box art look more clean.

Dumb Idea. Mass brand confusion imminent

This. We are going to end up with some people buying PS3 games and wondering why they don't play on their PS4 just like that guy's sister who bought Just Dance for the WiiU and couldn't figure out why it didn't play on her Wii.

This isn't brand confusion in the slightest. Its just a color change.

It was weird enough when PS2 covers started having the "Only on PlayStation" thing in 2009.

I don't get why the a's are different.

The "only on Playstation" tab is a copy of the ones found on the PS3 games.

At first I was bothered by this, but then I thought about it and decided I'm not OCD enough to really care, hehehe.

This way, the Playstation section of your local Gamestop will have a unified color scheme which is what Sony is going for. Blue therefore becomes the PS brand color.

Well, right, but why did they change the look of the 'a' when the design the tab for the PS3 case? I guess they thought it looked better, but it's interesting to think that at some point Sony had to have a design meeting discussing whether or not the a in the font the PS1 and PS2 used was acceptable or needed to be different when they created the "only on PlayStation" thing.

Waste of money. I can't think of a good reason why they are doing this.

I can see people quickly trying to purchase a game and mistakenly getting the ps3 version which wouldn't be a larger concern if the ps4 had bc but it doesn't.

It's annoying of Sony to this again as my PS3 collection looks cluttered—to say the least. Can't say this will upset me, though. It's mostly passive news.

A good idea in theory, but there are far too many games with the older schemes for that to really work.

Then they should learn how to read, or count, or something.

Probably so retailers can display everything in one place... most of the PS4/Vita displays are that kind of blue.

Looks alright I suppose, black was better, fit with the PS3 more. Honestly, this seems like a waste of time and money, with the PS4 out is it really worthwhile to redesign the PS3 cases? I mean, obviously the PS3 still has the huge install base and there are still games coming out for it, but between now and when most devs jump to next gen, are there going to even be enough games with this new design to warrant the effort?
