It's been two years since I bought a boxed game ( a DD thread)

I have no credit card and steam does not offer pre-paid cards, so I just buy retail.
I would always opt for a physical copy of a game anyway.

I've bought a few PC games on disc in the last year because they're relatively obscure games (mostly PnC adventures) that aren't available digitally, or only available with crappy DRM.

I have a good amount of space so I'm 100% digital on PC so far. The fact that I have yet to make a purchase over $20 helps a lot too.

I wouldn't dream of this on the current consoles.

On PC I almost never buy retail games. On consoles, it's the opposite, I buy physical copy as much as I can, being able to resell games is a huge plus.

I only buy retail now, even for PC. A few years ago I used to buy tons of games thanks to the Steam sales, but I realized that in the end I won't play 90% of them. So sticking to retail releases when possible helps me to avoid wasting money for shit I don't really need.

Every time I buy a digital game for full price, I end up feeling regret every time I think about it. Multiplied, if I didn't enjoy it much.

I'll continue to happily buy physical only for retail games, and low-price downloads, myself. Screw Steam and Valve.

I generally don't bother with retail when it comes to PC games, however I've recently begun tracking down retail versions of Steam-redeemable games that are no longer on Steam itself.

On PC. Sure, digital is fine.

On console, I like to resell my games when I'm done with them so most are bought physically. I will buy a few "keepers" digitally though. I hope I can continue that trend into next gen.

I do enjoy the convenience of digital titles; it's nice not having to swap media cards to play a new game. That being said, I'll gladly trade of the minor inconvenience of media swapping in order to have more peace of mind knowing that so long as there is functional hardware somewhere in the world for a platform, I'll be able to continue playing the games. So, I always go physical media when given the chance.

In addition, while account systems on PSN and Xbox Live are great, they don't ensure I'll have access to the content forever. I'm positive that they'll be pulling the plug on downloadable content for the current generation sometime in the next generations thanks to no backwards compatibility. Whenever download content sales taper off and it becomes unprofitable to continue hosting, I'm sure.

I think that's one of the reasons why people devalue digital content over physical. They don't actually own anything they can hold in their hand, and there's no telling how long they'll have access to it. I for one don't boycott digital content, but I sure as heck don't pay near what I'd pay for the same content in a physical form.

Once gaming goes pure digital (and we all know it will eventually), I'll likely slow my consumption of new content and wait for really good deals before buying anything. I'm nearing 30 years old and have an excellent collection of games for nearly every CD based format, along with all of my favorite cartridge based games downloaded ready to be emulated. There are literally hundreds of games on my want-to-play list, with some as far back as the SNES era, so I could never buy another game again starting today and game happily for the rest of my days.

Buy almost all Steamworks games that I want at launch boxed. Usually cheaper, installs straight away without having to wait for a download and behaves just like a digital purchase. Can chuck the disc if I like.

Now that's beautiful.
