It's just me or are Youtubers getting boring?

I'm surprised at all the Easy Allies love because I find them to be one of the lamest youtubers out there by a large margin.

Super Best Friends had a long lull but they've been knocking it out of the park lately. I still love AVGN, but it's clear his real passion is movies so I mostly watch those videos over his videogame ones.

I imagine all these "you're just growing up" posters would be surprised at the viewership metrics for a lot of these channels.

Yea, odd thing to say. I'm watching more LPs as I get older cuz I have less time to play games. I can skim the grinding and puzzles and stick with the stories and plot. Sometimes I just watch LPs for games I will never play but are curious about.

I'll never get sick of DarksydePhil and the TIHYDP associated with him. He I go out of my way to watch, he's like an instant blooper reel and anytime I recently finish a game, I watch a TIHYDP to see just how much worse Phil is at a game.

Like others have said, YouTubers doing Let's Plays and over-exaggerating every reaction has never been appealing to me. Especially as of late when the focus seems to have shifted from skilled gameplay to wacky personalities commentating games that require little user input. (ie. Golf With Your Friends) I have a close friend who is always promoting Jacksepticeye to me, and I can never make it through any of his videos. He even lowers the difficulty on some games (like 100cc in MK) so that he can have an easy play session while doing his ToP oF tHe MoRnInG To YA LAddIEs shtick.

TmarTn and YouTubeBrock are the only YouTubers that I consistently watch, mostly their CoD GB videos. They are both really skilled, but also provide entertaining (but not over the top) commentary. Plus, GBs are far more interesting to watch than just a simple LP. GBs are more unpredictable and fully rely on the player to put in effort. In a similiar fashion, watching fighting games can be a lot of fun, too. Maximilian Dood is a great one for that category.

You've been with these people for many years, and you're surprised they don't have that energy anymore? That they don't do the same stuff anymore? Just like when you grow up and don't find AVGN's kitchen sink forced swearing funny anymore, just like these content creators don't want to keep doing the same things anymore.

How about you guys?

I think there are two things going on here.

First, there are a lot of youtubers out there, many more than most people realize.

Second, there is a problem with visibility. Most of the youtubers I follow, I would never have discovered myself. I only found them by recommendation.

That said, I have a really hard time with youtubers who play 'characters' and/or pretend to have fits of rage, etc. I don't understand the appeal there.

Jacksepticeye is a GAFer here btw, so he might actually read this lol.

I was wondering whatever happened to Tmartn and all those CSgo gambling stunts he was pulling, did he ever lose his case?

Most youtubers are garbage because they try to fit into the youtuber formula with how they act, cut their videos, their thumbnails etc.

Best youtubers are the ones who dont give a shit about that.

Expect nothing and get even less.

The Best Friends are truly the best.

If anyone wants to understand what Salty Rice means, watch the Wu Tang Clan Scrublords episode of the Super Best Friends. The fact that such a large channel uploaded a video where the fifteen minutes are a disaster says a lot about them.

They were never interesting.

Seriously, I never got the appeal. I spend my time actually playing the games instead of watching someone else play.
Rather, the novelty of it went away as the market got saturated..
There p's too many of the same genre to the point that even if the channel is good, it's simply not good enough to entertain consistently :)

Best friends are better than ever imo

Nah, they're good and fun.
Yeah, that's not true at all (About them never being good). While I don't watch the sheer quantity of their videos that I used to, they're still as good as ever. I never fell behind 4 episodes or more of their Yakuza 5 play through and it was gold all the way through. They were never the scream at everything and over the top personalities like most other YouTube channels do. They seemed genuine and if you've kept up with them, you'll see that's pretty much who they are.

If we're talking strictly about LPs, then LobosJr is the only one that I find enjoyable.

He's more of a Twitch streamer, but he does upload his archived streams to Youtube occasionally.

I only watch GameGrumps now and then but I stick mainly to Twitch Channels because I can't stand the usual YouTube Let's Player, it doesn't matter who it is,the video's are always edited the same way, they can't even finish a sentence without cutting it 10 times and never understood why some words they say have random yellow text pop up in the video. That and for some reason they have the need to scream and yell everything.

I was never big on "Let's Play" videos, but I liked OG Game Grumps and JonTron. Both relics in internet time, haha.

I mostly watch Destiny nowadays, but that's more for the debate stuff and not really the gaming stuff.

I also like Core-A Gaming, Avoid the Puddle, Vesper Arcade, and Maximillian Dood. But that's more for fighting games.

Seems okay to me. I guess maybe I didn't ride the initial wave enough to notice a decline? /shrug

DSP got significantly less funny when he went direct capture + reading chat to figure out what to do. Now he just begs for money all day and calls his viewers lazy. Stoopid, man.

SBFP are doing alright right now, just a bit of a lull between full playthroughs and losing Liam. Watching their Tekken 7 and LA Noir LPs right now are pretty great.

Only one I ever got into (aside from those on Twitch) was Drift0r, and I still find him fun to watch. He has been branching out from CoD more and doing OW and PUBG which are both fun to watch.

Absolutely. The average Youtuber is pretty stale because there's thousands of others out there doing the same thing. I'll be honest I watch Easy Allies for thoughts and opinions whilst I watch DSP for entertainment.

Don't really need much else.

El Presador used to scream at CoD and knock down dead trees. Now he makes videos about taking care of stray cats. I always watch his and Report of the Week's videos. Everyone else is pretty much eh, I might get around to it.

the stuff that sucks is when people churn out videos the moment just a bit of new info is out and make it into a 12 minute video that could have been summed up in 3 or less.

It's you getting older.

Trust me. I've gone through it ;)

Yep. I don't enjoy the youtubers I used to watch a decade ago anymore. We grew in different directions. Also every game is a disappointment, I don't care for new tastes and I'm constantly sore. Aging, man.

I still watch gaming analysis channels like:
Matthewmatosis,
Joseph Anderson,
Mark Brown,
Super Bunnyhop,
TheGamingBrit,
HyperbitHero,
Hbomberguy,

Also Easy Allies, SGF and Retsupurae

I hate it when they have this super obnoxious introduction before proceeding to be a total bore for the next 30-60 minutes while also screaming everytime they die.

To each their own... but I'm curious, why are they are "the lamest"? you just dont like them, or is there something objectively 'lame' that they do?

I don't really follow any Let's players but I do follow specific gaming channels because I enjoy their reviews. LGR, Classic Game Room, gggmanlives, and Metal Jesus. My friend often shows me videos of great analysis videos but I don't really follow them.

The ones that actually make review/analysis, or are very talented/ knowledgeable about a specific game (mostly multiplayer) are still great.

The ones that try to be clowns were never fun to me.

I stopped watching many because I got bored. Video Gamer, Two / Super Best Friends Play, Game Sack, A+ Start, to name a few. The only one I still watch is Cinemassacre. Watching their content feels like a "comfort zone" thing for me. Just relaxing to stick a video on of watching James / Mike play retro stuff, or have Ryan / Mike just chat about stuff.

Game criticism videos are where it's at. I watch EZA too for more casual commentary, but I don't watch anyone's let's plays.

His rage is nearly just as good as it was back then though!

I've never been able to get into the YouTube thing. I'm not even that old. I'm sure there's good content out there but I was permanently turned-off by the screamer crap. Plus, I echo the sentiment some here have expressed: I don't get the appeal of watching others play video games, least of all when they're talking. In-person, sure. If it's a good friend and we're hanging out. But I don't know these people from Adam.

Sounds like you just need to check out new content. All the YouTube channels I follow related to gaming make great stuff.

IE Easy Allies.

Stopped watching AVGN in 2010 or '11 and never got into any Youtuber ever again. I don't even think James uploaded his latest videos on YT back then.

Only channel I follow still is Videogamedunkey. I'm subscribed but to some others, but really don't pay much attention to them. Have been following Dunkey since he released a video with his mom commentating the whole time. His content has gotten better over time, imo. When he actually is real about games, he's very enjoyable
