"IT'S NOT THE SAME GAME! IT'S NOT THE SAME CONTENT"

I think "What's wrong with you?" is very valid but I shook my head over the professionalism aspect.

Trash talk is something many gamers participate in, but get indignant when a professional gets on their level. Reggie could've been smoother than that.

It is a valid question. Along with the indie scene, it's pretty much the only place you can go for some originality nowadays. No wonder so many people on here seem convinced that Japanese gaming is dead.

No, they're all right.

You can totally call yourself a 'gamer' but have never owned the second best selling game device of all time (OF ALL TIME).

It only has "Japan" and "Nintendo" on it anyway.

No it isn't, when a corporation is judging people or attempting to guilt their fanbase(probably fanboys specifically) that's some slimy ass shit. Nintendo isn't the only one guilty of this, but the fact that some people don't see how brash and slimy that is, is troubling.

Corporate cheer leading is so fucking dumb, you can like Nintendo, but championing bad statements with worse ones is ridiculous.

Holy shit.

Dig more, do you want a better shovel?

You won't win this "if you're a real gamer" debate, because it's trivial as can be.

Never owned a DS or Wii? WHAT KIND OF GAMER ARE YOU?! EWWWWWW! What shitty gamer!

What? Wasn't the what's wrong with you thing said in a Nintendo Direct? Seemed pretty damn tongue-in-cheek to me, not to mention Reggie probably had nothing to do with actually writing the line. So many worse (and funnier!) Reggie quotes we could be posting right now

Calm your ass down..... Jesus, holy shit indeed.

This is paraphrased, but I seem to remember when Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors were coming out at around the same time, Sega was so busy touting Sonic 4 as the return to form for the Sonic series that when gamers were getting more excited about Colors (a new 3D game based on the praised Unleashed engine bursting with creativity), Takeshi Iizuka was like "What? No, Colors is just a casual kiddie game designed to attract the Wii audience that's only played Mario & Sonic! Sonic 4 is where it's at!" So, making a good game by accident I suppose.

Also explaining their reason for why Sonic 2006 was so bad - "We decided to release it a year before we it was truly finished so we could get better sales on the newly-launched PS3 and the slow-starter Xbox 360." The game did sell, but obviously cemented the series' bad reputation, and it probably would have done better if it were actually finished (not that it would have been that great of a game, but a playable mess is better than a buggy shitty mess and both consoles would have more of a userbase).

You're contributing a lot to this conversation. Also what in my post makes me seem like I'm angry? I guess posting one liners or three sentences is preferred to what I did. Bolding stuff and caps doesn't mean someone is angry.

I think the comment was harmless to gamers involved, especially ones that trash talk all the time. Calling out "corporate cheerleaders" makes as many dumb assumptions.

It was bad phrasing for people not used to his style, that's why he shouldn't have said it. That's why I called it unprofessional. The question itself wasn't malicious.

That was from one of the Capcom USA guys translating what Itsuno said about the game.

I'll just go ahead and say it; 60fps has become nothing but a shallow talking point now. It's become increasingly delegitimized by a number of people who just throw the phrase out there with little substance to their argument, and most of them don't even know what the fuck it means. They just say it ding devs on their games. It's childish.

Just because people are dinging DMC with the endless chant of 30fps doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about.

As for the topic at hand, I think we're all forgetting Shinji Mikami saying he would kill himself of RE4 went multiplatform.

If this isn't sarcasm I'm in awe.

Some people either aren't interested in the damn thing nor do people have spare money to invest in yet another console/handheld. You are officially a Nintendo Scout, be proud I guess.

You are missing the point - if you are not interested in a game system filled with great unique games that aren't available on any other system, just because of who made it or its form factor, or because its graphics don't look amazing, then you aren't really a gamer, are you? Thus, "What's wrong with you?!"

He said it as a joke, but it's truth.

I usually don't let things said by game execs get to me, and I normally love Reggie (I'm coasting off good will mustered by E3 2010, I guess), but that Arkham City quote infuriarates me. It's such a blatantly sloppy deception. I guess I feel a little better knowing that if someone buys Arkham City on WiiU, at least they're buying a damn good game -- one of the best action-adventure titles ever made, in fact -- but for Reggie to act like it's something more than a souped-up director's cut? GTFO.

I still don't get that conference (Nintendo's E3 2012 presser). It started with so much promise: gorgeous NSMBU and Pikmin 3. Then it devolved into Wii U Fit and Sing (complete with embarassing promos/dance routines involving people who don't play videogames), and other nonsensical shit, all while Project P-100/The Wondeful 101, their best game of the show (and one of the best games of E3, period) gets sidelined and relegated to a post-conference reveal.

Ugh. No time to revisit this shit, lol.

Someone probably addressed this by now... but if not... I know exactly what happened. At some point, E3 stopped being about the hardcore gamers. E3 became an event for the "sometimes" gamer. It had been slowly going that way for years (and E3 even has been fostering that image, hence their trying to shrink back the size of E3 for a number of years).

I'd say E3 is like the first episode on a TV network's new lineup. A lot of people are excited, including a bunch of people who don't normally watch TV... but for MONTHS you've seen commercials hyping up these new shows and now you'll finally get a chance to see them! You then watch it and realize why you don't watch mainstream TV much anymore... because most of what's on the first day of the new season is the SAME stuff as the old season... it's all aimed to be "safe" and "pleasant"... it might be new but it doesn't rock the boat.

If you call yourself a gamer and don't have a DS or 3DS yet (which is where that came from) that's a pretty damn valid question.

You have got to be joking. The 3DS is probably one of the biggest wastes of money for me this gen (I have one and never ever play it. If it wasn't for SMT IV coming out soon it'd be gone.)

Really? I mean I think this half of the year needed better localisation (nintendo has the games, their just not releasing them - is irritating me); but really I don't know what else you'd be looking for.

Only on GAF would a thread about stupid quotes devolve into discussion about whether having a 3/DS makes you a real gamer or not

This is fucking ridiculous. What are you, a child? Gaming is not some great cultural calling. It's a fucking hobby that many of us enjoy, and has a certain inside baseball to it. You're being ridiculous.

It definitely means you're excited and getting worked up.

Over something silly.

Hence the reason why you were told to "calm down" I imagine.

I just know I wouldn't play the handheld in public, so it'd be something I just use at home, so what's the point of picking up one?

The DS was home to one of the best JRPG libraries ever, and that's just one genre. For about one solid year it was goto device at home and at work during breaks. I blew through all of the DQ and FF games as well as a ton of other games that flew below everyone's radar. The DS was a hardcore gaming system through and through and with the back library it's very easy to recommend it to this day.

I play games. Fucked do I care if some bro on the intertubes believes I'm a gamer or not. Besides, games do not define me. I don't wear my gaming like some fucking badge.

No it doesn't. The context and the reason I did that is to demonstrate how childish and odd it sounded to have that opinon. Telling someone to calm down on a forum doesn't make sense due to misunderstanding context and how it adds literaly nothing to the topic. But go on how I feel or don't feel.

Maybe the guy already has plenty of games to play on the consoles he owns. Or, maybe he has a limited gaming budget and can't afford to play every game. Or maybe he prefers more robust multiplayer games than the ones that the DS has to offer. Or maybe he bought the console that all of his friends has. Or maybe he has some other valid reason you didn't think of.

Instead, you assumed that this was about some fanboy crap, which is what makes this post -- and all of the other posts like it -- sound really, really dumb. I own two DSes, by the way.

Ken Kutaragi on PlayStation 3: said:
[...]for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else.
You know, this is exactly what execs at Apple always wanted people to think and feel about their products. It's just that they succeeded in that, and weren't as open as saying it that way.

Kutaragi always thought of Playstation as a lifestyle brand, and not just a gaming product. For a while I think they were successful as selling it as such too.

Lets be real, this thread kinda proves why NeoGAF has the reputation it does in the industry. It's not a good look, folks.
