Its stupid that I cant play my Xbox games on PlayStation

I found my Mech Assault disc a few months back. It's such a damn shame it isn't included on the BC list. That was my first game I ever played over Live and it would be awesome to have that nostalgia trip.
Fantastic game. One of my first online console experiences

My FIRST EVER online experience was Red Faction on PC over dial up lol 😂

You either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain.
He replied to one of my threads recently. On $50 handhelds.

I felt Like a school girl and fan boy and all that stuff. I was Cool and didn't show myself 🤤 over him in my thread. But I was A witness to greatness

I remember having to pay for SegaNet on the Dreamcast. I know there were free alternatives if you had the right connection, but MS didn't introduce the concept.

This always gets bought up. The actual online gaming was free. But you needed an Internet connection. If you didn't have one, you could use SegaNet which offered nothing but an Internet connection. It was a dialup ISP that would also work on your PC...conversely the ISP already on your PC would work on Dreamcast.

I was pretty young at the time, but our dial up internet connection didn't work with the service, so I had to pay for the Sega Net service. I remember trying to get it to work with our existing dial up isp after my mom wouldn't pay for it anymore, but it was a no go.

Oddly enough, I got a PS2 shortly after and remember playing for free with my dial up connection. I can't recall why I was able to on PS2 and not Dreamcast. Too many years have passed.

Yeah back in those days it was a lot more than plugging in the Ethernet cable. DNS settings and all that.

I imported the GC version of PSO because I was impatient, and had to use a guide to navigate the internet settings, because they were all in Japanese...sometimes we romanticize the past, but that was lunacy.

Get a PC if you want a multi store device.

Then you can complain about having to rebuy games to have in one launcher instead… Or use a multi launcher frontend like Playnite.

The only way for it to work is to put all the games on a central service and the machines would all be the same exact box. You buy from the main service, and your generic machine would play the game. Now this means Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, (and every other publisher) would all be working for the common cause that is your generic machine. The big 3 can still make money on software, but nothing on hardware.
How often would that generic box get upgraded, rather quickly, or after a lengthy amount of time?
It's like Steam but there are no differing levels of power/requirements to run a game.
The coemption for your gaming dollar would be fierce if every game available just works. Doubt anybody publisher would be okay with that.
A sub would not work here; you would have to buy each game outright I imagine.

You buy a dvd, you can watch it on any DVD player
You subscribe to Netflix, you can watch it on any smart TV
You buy a Steam game, you can play it on any PC
You buy a a Taylor Swift CD, you can play it on any cd player
You buy a Xbox game but you can't play it on the PlayStation? To play it on the PlayStation, you have to buy the same game AGAIN. wtf is this, I already own a copy.
This should be illegal
You should not have to buy something twice to enjoy it once

I know this.
Please correct me if I am straw manning you here, are you saying that you believe that if MS approached Sony with a plan that had Sony giving their console users game entitlements to games purchased on the Xbox store, Sony would go for it? I feel like I might be misunderstanding what you actually mean because that sounds preposterous.

For MS published games I do.

Sony and third party publishers is stopping that for sure. MS would love for you to log into Xbox live and play your play anywhere games. That would give tremendous value to game pass.

Sony wants a cut of the sales. For good reason. Third parties want to sell a product on every platform. With good reason.
MS can take the loss for each account licence activation but obviously they don't want to lose money on sales elsewhere. Same with the other way around too since MS would not let games into the store without a cut. MS wants to sell games as much as the next guy so they would not love for you to do that unless it benefitted them. What you describe has happened on PlayStation with Valve in the past but it obviously did not take off. Orange box was crossbuy between Steam and PS. it's not going to happen with xbox. They may try to push "buy the PS version and you get the xbox version free" but MS will not allow "buy the xbox version and you get the PS version free" because they've got your money without paying third parties and they don't want to make it easier to switch to PS.

And what has this got to do with gamepass? OP is talking about bought games:

Calm down Andrew Ryan you'll end up building another dystopia where people inject nintendo key codes directly into their veins in the name of freedom.

I don't remember Microsoft becoming mean after Donn Matrick. The stuff they did with Call of Duty back in 360 days was unforgivable.

It's all called game pass now. There is no Xbox live gold sub. It's just game pass core.

And no you're wrong . Ms makes way more money from Xbox subs than selling individual games. They want game pass on all platforms and even has said so.

Who said anything about the amount of money MS makes from subs? How can I be wrong when I didn't say anything about that. The OP is talking about bought games though so I'm not sure why you're bringing up gamepass. Obviously if gamepass came to other platforms then it will let you install the game without buying again, that's self explanatory.
