Iwata Asks: Mario & Luigi RPG 4 Dream Team

The part where they didn't want to go the Bowser route had me wishing Nintendo would explore other Mario characters more. What's to stop them from creating a Wario and Waluigi title?

The year of 3DS continues.

This looks like it could be the must-have RPG on the 3DS and I'm super excited for it.

I look forward to the glorious glorious sprite work and soundtrack therein.

The only other 3DS game I'm looking forward to this summer is Mario golf, but did that get pushed back?

You can listen to some music here, if you haven't already: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/aymj/music/index.html

And yeah, Mario Golf is 2014 now.

-Many of the characters from older games appear, too.

If Wart isn't in the game it'll be a real missed opportunity

With that development cycle, the game sounds huge. Early review mentioned it took 35 hours for the main story alone, which is kinda nuts cuz all the other ones were around 20.
I highly doubt it means 35 hours then as i beat both of the first two games in under ten hours going at normal pace

Thanks for translating, Streets :>

I hope you won't be offended that I'm opting to wait for the official English version. Just because I want reading this to feel like an "event". :p

Not at all, the official translations are always much nicer than mine by virtue of not being a bullteted list done in 40 minutes, anyway. :P

Intelligent systems would be under EAD, not SPD like AlphaD I believe. So they dealt with different producers. I doubt their demands where the same.

Regardless, everything im hearing sounds awesome. August is going to make me poor.

Sticker Star also had a different director compared to the previous Paper Mario games, which were directed by Ryota Kawade. Which I personally think has more to do with how Sticker Star turned out, especially when Taro Kudo's views are taken into account.

Oh man, every time I hear something new about this game it only further increases my hype. Hard mode sounds great, here's hoping it leans more towards a new game+ as opposed to simply increasing the attack/defence/HP of all the enemies.

My only hope for hard mode is since it requires you to unlock it it cuts out a lot of the tutorials since they know we've played through it once already.

If the developer says he died in the tutorials, you know this is not happening. But tutorial doesn't need to mean boring.

Pretty sure it was mentioned in the past that AlphaDream threw around a lot of concepts before Bowser's Inside Story came out, one of which was Wario and Waluigi: Supersteal Saga.

I loved the first two games. Bowser's inside story was good but it felt like it was lacking something.

I guess I have to buy a 3Ds now. Is the XL really that great?

Better yet, why have Wario and Waluigi not appeared in this series as recurring antagonists?

Well I was/am hoping that even though he mentions dying in the tutorial on hard mode he means the tutorial section. I don't think it'd be to hard to keep the part the acts as a tutorial in but remove all the pauses to explain how things work.

Man my interest in this game just keeps increasing. August is gonna make me so broke.

Pikmin 3 - August 4th
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - August 11th
New Super Luigi U - August 25th

Y u do dis Nintendo.

-A Hard Mode unlocks for experienced players after clearing the game. Even the producer has trouble with it, it's so difficult。He even died during the tutorial.

-The put a lot of extra stuff into Dream Team after hearing fans say they wanted to play more of M&L RPG 3. There's special requirements for battles, like 'no damage KO' which will earn you points, once you have enough points you will earn a reward.

Niiiice.

oh my gosh.
this game sound amazing.

through my nostrils + directly into my veins all at the same time, please nintendo.

I was only mildly interested in this game at first and was too lazy to check out new media, so kind of a media blackout. But after reading all these things pre-release and listening to some of the music I'm beyond excited. I haven't watched any trailers beyond the first one so I'm looking forward to seeing what the game has in store. It almost sounds like the ultimate Mario RPG.

Thanks for the translations!
This sounds awesome. The 3DS is absolutely killing it this year.

Thank you for the translation.

Just 10 days until the game is released here, so the wait is getting really difficult. I'm also surprised by how long the game seems.

Intelligent Systems is in the same building as Nintendo SPD. They tend to sub-program co-develop a lot of NIntendo SPD games. Miyamoto interjecting on a game has more to do with his power away from EAD, as a Senior Executive.

Man, their impression of female players is honestly depressing. The main value for a female player for them is apparently to show the novice perspective. You know, if you claim that a lot of women play this series, and you're on the fourth game, then odds are that they aren't actually novices anymore.

Did they move to the new building together or have they always been so close?

The OP mentions Mario's right arm. The English version mentions Mario's left arm. I think I remember Mario using his left arm.

I just read that part and yea, it is very misleading. They should make it easier for those who aren't particularly skilled at the games which would be the case for both genders and not exclusively females.

They can probably find a male who has a more difficult time playing the game compared to Sano.

There's no Easy mode. I just checked. I guess that was just one of the ideas they had. Unless you unlock it after you've completed the game, but that wouldn't make any sense.

I believe you have to be dying a lot or missing a lot of attacks to make the game go easier for you. That's what it seems to be saying in the Iwata Asks.

Oh that might be the case. I'll check the digital manual tomorrow if it mentions anything about it.

The soundtrack is really good btw. I love this piece.

OK.

You're lucky as hell to be playing the game right now, very envious. I still got a month and half. When can we get impressions of the game?

Yea, that track sounds really nice. I wonder what the context of the music is though.

My guess would be one of the dream areas. Honestly this track would fit nicely with the Chrono Cross soundtrack.

The game comes out in 10 days in Europe. The review embargo gets lifted on the 12th, but I can 'publish previews', so I guess if you have questions I can answer them. I'm only 2 hours in yet though.

edit: And I haven't heard that track in the game yet, so I have no idea when that pops up.
