Sorry to ask this again, but are there any J-dramas that are sorta similar to the chinese wuxia ones (martial arts.)

Like, set during the sengoku jidai or something.

Rookies is excellent, but dont be expecting too much baseball! Its currently subbed upto episode 7.

Well, by the looks of those dudes, I didn't expect much baseball anyway.

That's what I love about dramas about young delinquents. If you walked into my American school dressed like that, you would get your ass beat so fucking bad... I don't even want to think about it.

Thanks for the recommendations of Hotaru no Hikari a page or two back. I've only seen the first 3 episodes so far, and it's been great fun. Now you've broken my J-Drama virginity (as far as TV shows go), I might have to try some others :-)

J-dramas > Anime.

Believe.

Rookies is really annoying. Can they stop with the slow-motion? Everyone is in love with this show and I don't know why...It's like Gokusen too. One student does something, they have an episode about them, then they're on the team etc. Each episode, one student.

Anyone know the title to a show about a guy who wins 3 million dollars from a lottery ticket and is also (I believe) a single dad? I was watching it here and want to watch it subbed at home.

I've actually found it pretty hard to 'trust' recommendations in certain J-Drama communities because I don't know whether people think the drama is well crafted, or they like it because x hot guy from Johnny's Entertainment or whatever is starring in it.

The show about the lottery ticket winner is called "Lotto 6 de 3 Oku 2 Senmanen Ateta Otoko". It's not overly dramatic that's why I like it.

I can't find a synopsis link for that series on D addicts? do you have any more info on that series?

The main actor from GTO (!!!) is the star. The restaurant owner in Densha (who was going after Densha's girl) is also in. He's after the lottery winners money I believe so he's trying to "help him".

The main character wins 3 million dollars. People have been making fun of him and he's kind of down and out. He spends a lot for his ex-wife and kid but she's not too happy about this. He also is having trouble trying to figure out what to do with it which is where I think the supporting characters come in. The whole first episode revolves around his pretty pathetic life. When he finally finds the ticket at his kids pre-school (he left it in his kids bag), a giant sandstorm hits and the tickets flies out of his hand. A chase ensues...

It's not overdone which why I like it. Dare I say it feels kind of sincere. For a J-Drama with the star of GTO, that's a lot. Who knows, it will probably get a lot more wacky later.

Puzzle has the funniest crime reenactments i ever seen.

Oh and Ryokiteki na Kanojo did an homage/parody of Galileo that was funny as hell.

I watch a lot of J-dramas simply because a cute girl is in it :X

Fortunately, most of the ones I've picked have entertained me to some degree. If a drama is absolutely terrible, I won't last more than 2 episodes regardless of who is in it.

Very true. But, I've found the formula "cute girl acts cute" usually is enough, because I am a pathetic mouth-breathing weeaboo.

That is for the first 3-4 episodes. Starting episode 5, I believe, the team really gets together and starts to work their way to Koshien.

I wonder why I can't find rookies subtitled... It's because I don't know the Proper Measures find the Pertinent Media.

I guess it's time to tackle watching them without fansubs.

Wait, you know that you can get softsubs, right? Check out D-Addicts.

Got it. I had downloaded hardsubs from them before. So, I just couldn't find it on veoh, which is awesome for marathoning old dramas.

Watched the first episode of Rookies! It's fucking awesome. My favorite character is the white guy who beats people up, because, like him, I'm white and like to assault people. I also like the dude with the tiny head but the big flamboyant hair/mane. Because, in the most serious scene, he cracks me up just looking as stupid as he does.

To preempt the "Actually, he's half Japanese" argument:

That's a white dude.

I also love how they just randomly kick the shit out of each other in episode 1. :lol

Sekikawa is my fav ( mowhakish dude), just because i remeber him in Dragon Zakura as the stupid twin who had a stutter, now he's a "badass".

They punch eachother all the time. And the hdon't even rumble. It's just their way of tapping somebody on the shoulder, or making a point. Usually they punch a guy, then he goes something like "You gotta fight on! I believe in you. BAaAAA-KA" then the other guy gets up and punches him back, and says "You don't understand. You'll never understand." And as he walks away, he drops something that makes them realize that he's actually being selfless. This has happened 10 times already. They need to work on their communication skills.

I've watched a Beautiful Life, Nobuta wo Produce, Galileo, and LIFE. I'm currently watching Nodame Cantabile, Last Friends, and Hanazaraki. Beautiful Life had me in tears. :"(

I hate that guy so much. His face annoys me and his hair is so horrible looking. It never moves during a fight..Yeah, I'm done for now.

Last friends...good luck with that one.

So there's a new show out about a girl who's kind of a tomboy, really tall, and gets put into a runway because she was mistaken for a model. Anyway know the name of the show? I'm watching it on TV Tokyo right now and the exact katakana is "supo para: mega supo drama 24"....yeah, anyone?

He was awesome as the asshole from HanaKimi who was actually a good guy and totally had the hots for Oguri Shun.

This season the only shows that interest me are Yasuko to Kenji and Shibatora. I'm glad Rookies is still going on.

What's wrong with it? I really enjoyed it. Great drama about human life and friendship. Though I sometimes wanted to bitch slap Michiru for always going back to Sosuke.

Are we talking about the dude with the flamboyant poofy hair and a tiny head or the white dude?

The white guy (Shinjo). My favorite character in Rookies is probably Hiratsuka (The guy with a mustache).

Also, the guy with the mohawk was on Ninja Warrior/Sasuke and failed in the first round. The announcer kept shouting "AHHHH ROOKIES! ROOKIES!!!!!".

I also just found out that a manga called Cat Street is being made into a drama. Only thing I know about Cat Street is that it is by the same author who did Hana Yori Dango, so that has be excited.

Uh, since it has been a long time since I first watched GTO (4~5y?) Im giving it a re-watch, and damn it gets me every time. No matter what, at the end of every chapter Im sobbing like a little girl :lol there so much awesome contained in Onizuka's character that I cant bere it.
Manly tears were shed. Again.

I used to watch a lot of J-Dramas back in the late 90's when they aired on the foreign station here in LA. It's been such a long time since I've seen them. I don't recall the names of all the ones I've seen but the ones I do remember are

Second Time Around
Blue Bird
A Summer Proposal
The Ideal Boss(this one was very good and starred a very cute idol named Kimura Yoshino).

There was another one...damn forgot the name....but it had Hotel California by the Eagles as its opening theme, and was about these ladies who were single but looking for love. One of them had a son named Ryuisky or some shit.

Any of you guys seen these?

Exactly, her character is retarded. Everything else is fine.

Does the dad in Stay At Home Dad get any better? In the second episode, he didn't know how to move a vacum cleaner...

(And they own a PSX, WTH?)

Anyone watching Loto? Or the show about the living cell phone? Or the really dramatic Mahjong show? I need more opinions people! Stop watching Rookies for a minute geez...

Guys, is there any japanese tv show out there that simmilar to GARO?

[and please dont reccomend me some kids shows like Kamen Rider of Super Sentai... I need something for adult audiences]

Stay At Home Dad is kind of weird. I think it gets better as it goes on, but at times it does drag and keep playing the same message over and over. Like, every other episode the Dad realizes how great his Daughter is, then he forgets the next day.

And yeah, the PSX is my biggest problem with that show other than Ketchup on white bread. They complain about financial trouble and they have a PSX! Bullshit!

Cutey Honey- The Live. Seriously, it has nudity and dismemberment. Even a lesbian villain that enjoys spitting eggs on school girls.

Beautiful life was amazing..but I stopped with the drama after that. It's too heavy for me and gets me depressed.

But I am getting my mom to watch it now since she loves Drama.

Soooooo I'll start watching Gokusen right now and from what I heard it's like a female version of GTO. If it's even half as good, I'll be happy.

Wow, the finale for CHANGE sucked. 20+ minutes of the guy giving a nauseating speech, who's idea was that.

Wat. You should watch more upbeat dramas then. I recommend a very serious drama, Last Friends. It has a happy ending too. :)

really? I started off liking the sharehouse group, by now that I am on the 10th ep I think they all should die in fire except for the flight attendant.

Rookies continues to be cheesey as hell, I fucking love it. Crossing my fingers for a second season... I mean, hell, they are just 二年生little bastards, anyway.

Linkzg said:
At times Rookies is a bit overboard with how cheesy it is.

uh.. "at times?" "a bit" overboard?

When their hated rival (the dude at the beginning who hit the dude with the baseball bat) was literally crawling like he had been shot after losing to the Rookies, it was the single most insanely idiotic cheesy over the top thing I had ever seen in a show... And it seemed normal in this universe, where people punch their best friends because they care about them.

Well, sometimes it isn't too bad. The montage at the start of 9 was terrible. Stop being so damn supportive of each other! its sickening!

and then some guy wearing a hair band starts causing some shit. What? I mean, the association is all on their asses for fighting, yet this prick can break shit and beat up people and doesn't even get any problems.

I just know that when the series is over, I'm gonna go back and count the number of desks that have been kicked. I think we are over 100 by now.

A great drinking game! You take a shot every time:

1. Someone calls someone else "Baka"
2. "Urusai!" is yelled.
3. someone kicks a desk/school property.
4. Someone punches a teammate.
5. Someone walks away without explaining a misunderstanding that could be explained easily and would resolve the problem.

You'll be dead in 30 minutes.
