haha, in the latest episode of Rookies, when these little punks messed up their locker room... I was really expecting the Coach to say "ah, Hell no. That's it: Let's fuck em up!"

That would make this show the greatest of all time.

Kuwano is too peaceful, which is really annoying. I mean, he punched a kid out of a window down two floors. The killer is that the kid who got hit turned out alright! he should realize that he needs to smash in more heads.

My coach would have called us pussies for not busting heads after that. This is going to sound weird, but I think this is a rare case where Revenge of the Nerds comes out as a more realistic work.

Gee, perfect timing to see this thread, I guess. Just watched a few episodes of the live action Honey and Clover and it's TERRIBLE. The douchebag playing Morita played the exact same character in Nobuta wo produce and I'm really getting tired of his shtick. Terrible actor.

I also gave the first episode of Gokusen 3 a chance since I loved the first one, thought the second one was passable, but the first episode of season 3 was so fucking shitty. I think fecal matter really started oozing from my monitor. Fuck it. Anyway, got any GOOD J-Drama's they'd like to recommend? My favorites are Summer Snow, Taiyou no uta, Slow Dance, Orange days and of course, GTO.

edit: forgot Yasashii Jikan. Loved watching that show during the cold winter nights. So relaxing and peaceful. ;_;

I couldn't finish orange days or summer snow. I tear up too easily

Almost all your favorites are stuff that I watched and really enjoyed, except Summer Snow (never watched) and Taiyou no Uta (TV series was an abomination compared to the movie IMO). Orange Days is extremely memorable, Slow Dance was very sweet and GTO roxxxx.

I also liked: My Boss My Hero, Shiroi no Kyoto (especially so), Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, Beach Boys (fuck the crappy-only vids available) and a lot more. I've watched too many.

You should watch Beautiful Life, My Boss My Hero, Nodame Cantabile, Last Friends, LIFE, Galileo, Security Police. I downloaded Summer Snow but I haven't watched it yet

Will definitely check those out, thanks. I've never been able to find Beach Boys, though.

You guys are a bunch of faggots - how about instead of wasting time and bandwidth downloading shitty low budget japanese soap operas, you spend some time watching some of the actual well made programming that is broadcasted in your own fucking country.

You're never going to be accepted in Japan, stop trying to live your lives through the culture of another country. Nobody in Japan will be impressed when you arrive on your pilgrimage with majestic knowledge of all the garbage they broadcast on their airwaves.

God I hate you fucking Japanophiles so much.

You'll probably be banned before you read this, but a lot of the people in this thread are actually residing in Japan and are watching the shows live.

Besides, how is watching JDramas any different from watching shows from any other country? For example, plenty of people in the U.S. watch English sitcoms and vice versa. Lots of people watch foreign movies and enjoy them. Have you ever seen a kung-fu movie? The Internet does not just consist of America.

No, I can guarantee 95% of the people in this thread do not live in Japan.

It was, yeah. This forum sucks and this thread proves it.

Oh yeah hurr I must be a patriot if I think nerdy white japanophiles who strictly watch awful Japanese television are morons.

America, FUCK YEAH!

I hate J-Dramas too, but not the people who may enjoy them for whatever reason.

Anyway, on the AZN network (dunno if that even exists now) I saw some show called "24 Hour Police Drama". It was an asian spinoff of 24. Clock and all! I laughed my ass off. Too bad I can't find any clips :(

So anyway, why does Saturday afternoon TV suck so bad?

I live in America would say that most TV I watch is from over here, but I still watch a large number of shows from both the UK and Japan. I don't see the big problem with that.

Diablos said:

They enjoy them because they idolize Japanese culture and want to feel apart of it.

Also you have an un-ironic Obama avatar. Your opinion is pretty invalid as it is.

There's nothing wrong with watching quality television from outside of America, the problem is there does not exist quality live action Japanese programming.

How can you guarantee that? The three people that have responded to you, Sp0rsk, Revenant and myself all live in Japan. Besides, I didn't say "the majority". I just said "a lot".

Also, who in this thread *strictly* watches Japanese TV? I'm sure a lot of the people in this thread enjoy programs in their home country as well as other countries. Have you never watched a film or television show from a country outside of your own?

-Good for them, not my problem.

-I care.

I don't know if this is considered jdrama, but I've recently been watching Kamen Rider Kiva, and OH GOD IS THIS AWESOME. The story is unexpectedly good for a kids show. Checkmate Four, fuck yeah!

Even if you were right, how does this effect you in such a way you feel you need to post about it?

And here lies your problem. You think that your opinion is fact.

If you can say that there is no interesting Japanese television, then you must have watched a lot of Japanese television to form that opinion, right? If you have watched so much Japanese TV, how can you be so condescending towards others who are just doing the same?

There is no way you have seen every Japanese drama / television show, so perhaps the stuff you have watched just wasn't appealing to you and there might be shows that you would like out there if you gave them a chance. Millions of people (mostly Japanese) enjoy lots of Japanese shows. Their opinions are no less wrong or right than yours.

Now that's quite the arrogant statement to make.

Dude, so what, you think J-Dramas suck. I do too. Who cares? This isn't a J-Drama forum.

Also, I'm sure there's been at least one drama in the history of Japanese television that has not completely sucked.

Tens of millions of people also enjoy the drivel that is broadcasted on American television and consistently make it into the Top 20 Nielson ratings each week. This does not make them right. Go watch Nabuto no Produce followed by CSI: Miaimi.

I'd like to implant a little wisdom into your Otakuan minds. I hope that by the end of the night I've made a few of your branch out from your sheltered Japanese soap opera existence.

I like your style.

So now you go from saying all people that hate J-Dramas are ______, to saying they're no different than Americans who watch CSI and its 100 lame clones.

Right.

Why am I even wasting my time arguing with you?

I personally don't like either of those shows, so I will not go and watch them. Thank you.

Since you seem to think so much of your opinion, please do enlighten us on what "good television" is.

So you think that coming in and insulting people and trying to force your opinion down their throats is going to change their minds about something you think negatively of. You're a really smart guy, aren't you?

The difference is that there is not a large subculture of 20something Japanese males vigorously downloading the worst of the worst American television and watching nothing but that.

But you just basically implied that there was no difference ("Go watch Nabuto no Produce followed by CSI: Miaimi.")

My brain hurts.

Actually, there is.

Have you ever checked out any Japanese file sharing programs? Probably not, because you most likely know nothing about what you are talking about.

I see "fansubbed" versions of the latest South Park / 24 / Prison Break / Lost / etc... on P2P programs all the time... I doubt it is as large as the international anime fansubbing communities, but there is definitely a sizable group in Japan that fansubs foreign shows.

Nah, they're mostly women, but I can see how that would be confusing for you.

I didn't bring up the comparison, octopii over there did. My point was that saying "WELL FOURTY BILLION PEOPLE IN JAPAN LIKE IT, SO IT MUST BE GOOD" is a shitty argument.

I'm sorry that my knowledge of Japanese culture is not as greatly defined as yours; the point is still valid: there is not a group of 20something Japanese males who aspire to move to and assimilate with American culture that download bad fansubs of Guiding Light and General Hospital.

Oh how wrong you are.

Watching programming from another country is great, why limit yourself? I enjoy British TV shows and I've never even been to that continent. I definitely do enjoy the Korean and Japanese dramas (Chinese ones to a lesser extent), but unlike the people in this thread I actually am Asian so...

You are an Asian from the continent fo Asia? Or are you an Asian American (ie. an American). As I'm sure you aware there is a lot of variety in "Asians" and the differences between the various countries on the continent are quite large.

The fact that you say you are Asian as if it matters makes you almost as ignorant as the guy who just got banned in my book. Besides, how can you be sure you are the only "Asian" in this thread.

Haha, That guy is such a dick... I actually kinda like him~!

Look, I watch about 70 hours of American TV a week (Sorta, I sleep with the TV on cause I think too much if I don't) and I watch roughly one 45 minute J-Drama show every two weeks. Do you (presuming he just cleaned out his cookies and is lurking) think we just sit and watch the U-Torrent and eat pocky waiting for a show to download?

Anyway, that was a total joke character. I wonder who it was?
