PS3 is the Gamecube. It is still a viable platform that can provide plenty of fun for fans and console-specific enthusiasts (hell, I loved the Gamecube), but it's not unfair to see it is a failure. A catastrophic failure, in the arenas this guy is talking about.

however, you cannot condemn the journalist at all at this point, because the only thing that matters is the end result (the article).

Say hello. (And that's just in video games)[/QUOTE]
The comparison is not valid. The Virtual Boy is an afterthought and left 0 lasting impression in the grand scheme of things. The 32x did not cause Sega to lose an astronomical amount of marketshare (what, roughly 50%?).
I am. I may keep it for SFIV - it's cheaper to use my 15th anniversary sticks and keep that than buy new sticks so I can play (the right way) on my 360.belvedere said:Still picking one up for GoW 3, Ami?

lawblob said:To be fair to Sony, when they launched the PS3 the economy was going just fine. It is sort of ridiculous to bash the price of the system relative to the economy, because Sony can't help that. You could say in general the system should have been cheaper at launch, but it does irritate me that people now infer Sony should have seen the economy coming.

Maybe PS3=the cube, maybe not.
I don't actually give a rat's ass. I think there are enough folks who own it and play it that we can make a good biz out of being exclusive with Sony. We are happy to be. The more the merrier. I would LOVE more folks to have and play a PS3. I am hoping for it.
But this was never about me defending Sony.
It was/is about me thinking the interviewer's questions were-perhaps- off base.

RRoD didn't happen in a vacuum. It happened because they rushed their machine out in order to beat their competition to market. And that's been huge for them. What do you think the state of the race would be right now if the 360 had launched at the same time as the Wii, even if it had been more reliable? The 360 would have sales like the PS3's, and the Wii would have something like 66% of the market. Third parties would be struggling even more and Nintendo would be laughing even harder. The PS3 might have been marginally more successful.
Edit: Realistically the Wii would have been at closer to 55%.

a Master Ninja said:This was all a missed opportunity to ask David Jaffe tough questions about himself. Do you regret abandoning the blockbuster franchise, God of War, which you helped create? Is Twisted Metal still a relevant IP? You talked up your last release and didn't have much impact, what will be different this time around? How can your development house afford to not go multiplatform in this day and age? What lessons, if any, have you learned from Denis Dyack's behavior on message boards, blogs, and with gaming press surrounding the launch of his game Too Human?
That is the kind of interview I'd like to read.

Yeah. I've got a list of 'want to play's' for the system that haven't been enough motivation for me to pick one up yet. GoW will be enough. FFXIII would have been enough if it had stayed exclusive.belvedere said:There's too many good exclusives on every system not to own them all, so good to hear.

Bizzyb said:slanted questions?
Bias?
I'm sorry but those are perfectly legit questions. PS3 is more or less a failure in that it utterly failed to accomplish what Sony had planned/hoped for it to accomplish by now.
Now, maybe the improved features, stuff like HOME and Trophies, were planned all along, but the debacle of both the rumble situation and the nixing of Backwards compatibility are just embarrassing clusterfucks, esp when Sony claimed Rumble was "Last Gen" and then told us "Playstation has such a strong brand and library" that they felt BC should be mandatory thing , or something along those lines
How ANYONE can defend Sony at this point is beyond me. They just made terrible decision after terrible decisions......Riiiiiiddge Racer!
belvedere said:Yes, and if correct, it seems to more properly display the minor differences between the 360 and PS3's initial sales. How can one be a complete failure with such a marginal difference?
