And a new streak begins. Microsoft will wait to this years playoffs again. I wonder if the same strategy can work twice.
Sony can prepare for it this time.

I'm really surprised MS has fell behind again what with the price cut/cheaper system and the PS4 still being able to beat it. I really thought at that price point and the Christmas months sales momentum win would have kept it in the lead. And with no exclusive game coming until...? I'm guessing we're going to be seeing even more promotions and temp price drops to try and tempt people like they did last year. Except this time there's no Titanfall.

Dying Light was the best-selling game of January at retail in the US
Wasn't Xbox $399 for half of January?Xbox cant win at price parity, now it can't win $50 dollars cheaper, damn. Imagine when ps4 gets its first price drop.
Yeah, PS2 built dat legendary gap being active with price cuts. That's my guess. Two years with no price cut would be too much.

The first month of 2015 saw the one big new game trump a bunch of returning best sellers from 2014. It also saw the return of PS4 as the No. 1 selling console in the U.S.
Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Warner Bros. Interactive’s zombie-survival game Dying Light pushed total game sales to $625.7 million in January. That’s down 5 percent from $662.1 million in 2014. While software sales were up hardware was down big time from $239.6 million to $185.5 million. This is a reversal of the 2014 trend that saw hardware up nearly every month while game sales lagged behind. It is likely switching around now as the hardware market is settling into place.
We’ll get to the full software sales list here in a moment, but first we always like to point out that the NPD numbers are only representative of new physical games sold at U.S. retailers. While that makes up a huge chunk of the market, it does not include digital or mobile. With that in mind, you should probably only view these numbers and results as a snapshot of trends in a wider market.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the game sales.
Software
1. Dying Light (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
2. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox One ,PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
3. Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)
4. Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)
5. NBA 2K15 (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
6. Super Smash Bros. (Wii U, 3DS)
7. Far Cry 4 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
8. Madden NFL 15 (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)
9. Destiny (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)
10. FIFA 15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, Wii, Vita, 3DS)
Haha, come on... it was pretty much known that this would be the result after the price increase.
Considering the 2015 offerings? I think so too.I feel like that'll be the norm all year.
Wow, that's at least two crosses on my Bingo sheet!I remember something along the lines of
"Sony better watch out because the Xbox One momentum is going to be closing the gap"
Or the gap is not guaranteed to widen.![]()

Wasn't Xbox $399 for half of January?
Xbox One was the best selling $349 console both in January and all of 2015 to date through January.

Sony claimed the win for January.
PlayStation 4 was the top selling console in January, it and remains the cumulative leader in the U.S., according to NPD data, an SCEA spokesperson told GamesBeat. Since launch in November 2013, 18.5 million PS4 units and 81.8 million software units have been sold through to consumers worldwide.
This ends the Xbox Ones two-month win streak, which occurred over November and December two of the most important months of the years in terms of game sales.

$499 didn't work, Titanfall didn't work, $399 didn't work (price parity), and now this lower price point worked but only for 2 months.
What can MS do next? Or will their spirit be broken and they will simply accept second place?
Edit: And of course, this is all just NA. Worldwide is a bloodbath.
Haha, come on... it was pretty much known that this would be the result after the price increase.
Huh? How does that work? The price didn't increase for long. It was 10 days. Most of the month it was cheaper. No excuses now.
But it was $350 longer than it was $399.
Also it never went back to $399 on amazon. So I'm not understanding your logic here.
So it's now XB1 Madden outsell PS4 loool. MS continue to have a strong shooter base in the US.
Sony can prepare for it this time.
Xbox One sales probably collapsed when returned to $399. Sell less than PS4 was expected.
We should stop ruining our sales threads with Gies' nonsense.Gies.gif

Your missing the point. I don't think a lot of people trust the CC information with Sony thus they buy a voucher from AMZN or GS and redeem the code for credit to their account, they then use this credit to buy games.
Sony has a torrid history of security, and I don't think people trust them at all.
I have a feeling that XBO users are willing to put their Paypal or CC information on MS' servers. MS' gift cards barely chart other than the $10 one.
I know Zhuge said you were second but you are first in my book.
CoD selling better in XB1 was somewhat expected, but also for GTAV and NBA 2K?
?
huh I should check out this new shooter Madden game
Almost every game sold more on XBone though. That's definetely not good for the PS4.
CoD selling better in XB1 was somewhat expected, but GTAV and NBA 2K selling better in XB1? That's a bit surprising.
