$499 didn't work, Titanfall didn't work, $399 didn't work (price parity), and now this lower price point worked but only for 2 months.

What can MS do next? Or will their spirit be broken and they will simply accept second place?

Edit: And of course, this is all just NA. Worldwide is a bloodbath.

I'm really surprised MS has fell behind again what with the price cut/cheaper system and the PS4 still being able to beat it. I really thought at that price point and the Christmas months sales momentum win would have kept it in the lead. And with no exclusive game coming until...? I'm guessing we're going to be seeing even more promotions and temp price drops to try and tempt people like they did last year. Except this time there's no Titanfall.

I don't think the $50 means as much Jan-Oct. as it does Nov and Dec.

I don't see Microsoft winning November or December this year either.

Sony gonna come in and announce the PS4 slim edition at E3 2015 along with a price cut and Uncharted 4 bundles.

Unless the cut the price again can we see Xbox One winning a month this year? I would say maybe the month of Halo 5, but if a game like Uncharted 4 comes out around that time or PS4 gets a price cut then idk.

Xbox One sales probably collapsed when returned to $399. Sell less than PS4 was expected.

Report is up

http://venturebeat.com/2015/02/12/january-2015-npd-ps4-wins/

The first month of 2015 saw the one big new game trump a bunch of returning best sellers from 2014. It also saw the return of PS4 as the No. 1 selling console in the U.S.

Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Warner Bros. Interactive’s zombie-survival game Dying Light pushed total game sales to $625.7 million in January. That’s down 5 percent from $662.1 million in 2014. While software sales were up hardware was down big time from $239.6 million to $185.5 million. This is a reversal of the 2014 trend that saw hardware up nearly every month while game sales lagged behind. It is likely switching around now as the hardware market is settling into place.

We’ll get to the full software sales list here in a moment, but first we always like to point out that the NPD numbers are only representative of new physical games sold at U.S. retailers. While that makes up a huge chunk of the market, it does not include digital or mobile. With that in mind, you should probably only view these numbers and results as a snapshot of trends in a wider market.

With that out of the way, let’s get to the game sales.

Software
1. Dying Light (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
2. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox One ,PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
3. Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)
4. Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)
5. NBA 2K15 (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
6. Super Smash Bros. (Wii U, 3DS)
7. Far Cry 4 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
8. Madden NFL 15 (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)
9. Destiny (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)
10. FIFA 15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, Wii, Vita, 3DS)

Hardware

Sony claimed the win for January.

”PlayStation 4 was the top selling console in January, it and remains the cumulative leader in the U.S., according to NPD data,” an SCEA spokesperson told GamesBeat. “Since launch in November 2013, 18.5 million PS4 units and 81.8 million software units have been sold through to consumers worldwide.”

This ends the Xbox One’s two-month win streak, which occurred over November and December — two of the most important months of the years in terms of game sales.
Yep

I thought you were going for a Dragon Ball Z reference in the end there.

Huh? How does that work? The price didn't increase for long. It was 10 days. Most of the month it was cheaper. No excuses now.

Not an excuse; it apparently hurt MS in stores for people who wanted the system at $350. Thought it was a popular belief here but I guess not (based on the reactions).

PS4 should easily get the next two months due to the exclusives. Can't see XB1 winning getting another month until August at the earliest (possible Madden bundle).

______________

But it was $350 longer than it was $399.

Seems like there's some who believe the system is still $400 and will be waiting until next holiday to get a system.

Also it never went back to $399 on amazon. So I'm not understanding your logic here.

?; I never said anything about Amazon sales... simply talking about the PS4 getting the month.

Xbox One sales probably collapsed when returned to $399. Sell less than PS4 was expected.

And when they cut the price again the momentum was already lost.

Anyway, it's almost a month since Microsoft made the cut and I'm not sure they are doing any better this month.

Your missing the point. I don't think a lot of people trust the CC information with Sony thus they buy a voucher from AMZN or GS and redeem the code for credit to their account, they then use this credit to buy games.

Sony has a torrid history of security, and I don't think people trust them at all.

I have a feeling that XBO users are willing to put their Paypal or CC information on MS' servers. MS' gift cards barely chart other than the $10 one.

What's more sad than the fact that Sony had their credit card info compromised is that people actually believe that it's safer on MS servers, or that MS has never been compromised in such a way.

Your CC info is not safe _anywhere_ on the net. People need to stop over-reacting when it happens and realize what's more important.

CoD selling better in XB1 was somewhat expected, but also for GTAV and NBA 2K?

not that surprising. more recent new xbone owners in the us. also we don't know how much more ps4 actually sold yet nor do we know actual numbers on software sales...might have been pretty close in both regards.
