These hardware #'s deserve their own thread! I can't wait to see people tripping over themselves over them... some regular member... create that thread! PSP is playing quicktime catchup.... If they sold at this rate forever(and of course they won't) it would take the PSP what... 2 1/2 years to catch up?

now in tokyo (Ginza & Shinjuku), PSP is still sold out and NDS has stock.
how come PSP can out sell NDS?

The game itself sold decently (better than 1st week for Yoshi's Universal Gravitation and that was a holiday release). Though obviously it didn't push hardware sales as some had hoped, the game itself will end up around 250-300k I bet.

Really, I don't see many software releases outside huge stuff (Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Mario Kart, Rockman.EXE, etc) really pushing DS sales much. DS will probably sell similarly to GBA in Japan, consistant all year with huge gains around holidays.

40 million for Revolution in 2006? Typo or Livedoor gag? Looks like only 1 in 4 Revolution purchasers will get a game, though. Also a pathetically low estimate for 2006 GCN sales. Even in an unimpressive year it can do that in the US in November and December alone.

256.36m GBA games yet sold vs 148.18m for GCN. A reminder that it's not just the portable sector that brings in the big bucks, especially considering the difference in manufacturing and retail prices.

January, actually. I like this well enough. It's not as if each new bit of information has brought a great deal of discussion, so it's interesting to have the archive of januswon's various information all together.

That Famitsu/Media Create comparison is crazy. I know they often have very different numbers, but one week Famitsu has DS at ~250K compared to Media Create's ~400K? That's vast, and almost single-handedly explains the ~200K total difference between them.

Numbers are based on weekly Famitsu top 30. Dragonball Z3 didn´t chart the last week so I don´t know the precise number.

And here comes a chart for the corresponding period five years ago. That month was really special as PS2 launched and no PS1 games managed to break the top 10!

So, let´s discuss the numbers...

Starting with comparing the Kirby games. The N64 userbase was around 5 million at the time of Kirby Stars release. Thus approximately 10 % bought the game in the first two weeks. Then Touch! Kirby did a lot worse reaching only 5 % of the DS owners in two weeks.

Analyzing the Tekken 5 and Tekken Tag Tournament in the same way would lead to shocking results! It seems like both did really good with 210-220 k in the first week. But the PS2 userbase is now about 20 times as large as it was back then! I think it´s very strange that both games are so equal in terms of first week sales.
