Physical Switch sales within the Top 20 of all time still
11.1 million from the 3DS lifetime totals, it's possible that this year Switch catches up to the 3DS depending on which is the major Nintendo game still to launch. We have one Pokemon Remake, one Dragon Quest Remake, Yu-Gi-Oh, on top of the evergreens which are now joined by
Rise,
Momotaro &
Bowser's Fury.
With the slow arrival of third parties we are finally at a stage where software sales on the Switch can start to rapidly catch up to the 3DS which enjoyed multiple third party million sellers,
six Yo-Kai games,
five Monster Hunter,
two Dragon Quest games, managed to break
1 million. We also had
GungHo with
Puzzle & Dragons Z &
Mixi get very close with
Monster Strike

Overall it's been Nintendo mainly making headway with their games on the Switch the sales of 1st Party games with the Switch Top 20 currently is higher than the combined output of Nintendo & Pokemon Co. on the 3DS.
Level 5 and
Yo-kai are the biggest casualties of the transition, going from a Top tier third party publisher on the 3DS to bottom tier on the Switch. Their top selling games are currently still well below
1 million units on the Switch in Japan and so far there has been no major announcements for new games. Their strategy to pivot to mobile while driving
Yo-kai into the ground has turned their potential to lower than
Marvelous on the Switch.
Konami are definitely the biggest winners of their strategy aligned with the Switch,
Momotaro is already their best selling game in Japan and it should cross
3 million units sold physically by the end of the year and over 4 million overall, the first new franchise to do this since
Yo-Kai. There is also very strong demand for the upcoming
Yu-gi-oh game so they might have at least one more million seller on the Switch by 2022.
Capcom still need to sell
10 million more units to catch up to their performance on the 3DS.
