Japan Relief PSStore Donations now avaliable

Awesome idea, hopefully it is on the Australian Store too when I jump on later. Really nice Theme but I don't think I will ever replace the LBP Dynamic Theme, Sackboy entrances my Son too much. Great to see different companies coming up with ways to aid the process.

You could sign up for PSN on your PC and use mediago to make purchases from the store without owning a PSP or ps3 I believe.

oh, it can be for PSP? then I can donate. :)

Not to sound assholish or anything but they freakin' tax you on donating? Seriously? I had like 2 dollars exactly in the store wallet. But whatever.

What an absolutely heart warming idea from Sony/British Red Cross.

Donated as much as I could
£5

Will donate another fiver on Monday

Ermmmm... yeah that does seem weird.

Donated 5 bucks. It felt good to know that I am aiding Japan on its darkest hour. Quite a sensible move, Sony. Donate guys.

Nice gesture from PopCap. Donate to the relief effort and get some great games:

Dear PopCap Friends,

On Saturday and Sunday, March 19 & 20* PopCap will donate all its proceeds from the sale of iPhone and iPad games to the International Red Cross and their ongoing relief efforts in Japan.

We're writing today to ask everyone we know around the world to join us in helping those in need.

*Offer begins March 19, 2011 at 12:01 AM PDT and ends March 20, 2011 at 11:59 PM PDT.

I'm not normally one for donating to charities (i never have any money and am a cold heartless bastard) but i just used this to donate 25 of my shiny British pounds.

We really need a mass Sticky thread of ways you can donate by buying games/ things in games. there literally seems to be 10+ ipod apps , companies selling packaged games where all proceeds go the donations and seemingly hundreds of social games.

If No one makes one by tonight Japan time, I suppose I'll get started on it.

For people that are really cheap or poor, pro tip: Buy Resident Evil 3 for $2.99, donate $2 to Japan.

You have to add a minimum of $5 to your wallet anyway if you dont have the money, so why not.
I concur.

Donated. Feels so good.

I just let one of my best friends I have on PSN know about this. He donated 50. Teared me up a little.

Microsoft, your turn.

If Microsoft came up with a few Japan-themed Avatar items, I would donate copious amounts of money for them. $200 for a full EGL outfit, do you hear me Redmond?!

This seems like really useless practice, Sony are just getting the money from you and then giving it to red cross. You can like give it to Red Cross straight yourselves, Sony could at least be useful and match the donations made through PSN or something along those lines. Gave £50 a few days ago anyway, will give more significant donation when I'm no longer a piss poor uni student.

Not really. Steve jobs said something like you make it as easy as pie to buy stuff then people will do just that. or was that make the ipod easy enough not to have to even think about how it works?

I had to fill in a form, and remember my membership number or something for when I donated via the website. on here everything's taken care off. You buy like any game. Kinda like itunes for charity really. And like another poster pointed out, because it's at the point of checkout, you could be buying a game say resident evil 3, and then give the change to charity. Which is simple, but really clever I think. Because it's so very natural on this occasion.

Some people will donate because they get a free theme that wouldn't have donated otherwise. Good practice by the person or not, Sony is helping to bring in donations for the Red Cross, and that's all that matters.

And to think, I was going to use my remaining wallet balance to buy yet another useless Super SF4 costume pack. But, as I saw the appeal banner upon opening the PS store, I knew that I wasn't that evil.

Donated £4 (£2 twice). Will donate a little more tomorrow, when I can get to my bank.

Nice one on Sony and the Red Cross for doing this.

Thanks for making this awesome thread! Good show! Good show GAF!

It's also a good day to have extra cash in my PSN wallet, just donated $25.

I also heard something about buying Resident Evil 3 from PSone Classics also contributes to the relief fund? that true?

I was always on the fence buying that game for nostalgic reasons anyway, no better time than now.

IMO a great idea to offer it via the Store. Basically, you access the PS Store like usual for the weekly new content, press X three times or so and your donation is done (and you even get a theme).
Minimal effort required for normal PS Store users, important for lazy people like me.
