Japanese PC games that are not moe/anime/VN

UPDATE: I worded the topic badly, can a mod remove 'anime' part? Obviously we will not have non-anime stuff in Japan, what I meant was NO MOE.

NOTE: I do not mean PC games SOLD in Japan e.g. CoD, etc. I mean PC games SOLD and MADE in Japan by Japanese developers. Also, reading comprehension: let's see who mentions Dark Souls first! :D

I was browsing through Andriasang, the front page has the following games featured:

Wii U Dragon Quest X
Yakuza 5
Toki Towa
Present 4 U - love sim for PSV
Hatsune Miku
Bravely Default
etc.

Now I know Andriasang will exclusively report on console games, but here on GAF the topic about Japanese PC games is represented almost entirely by visual novels (so no, we do not discuss Lilith PC titles here).

Are there any other games on the market? Any Japanese/English sites reporting on them?

I know dungeon crawlers have way bigger presence in Japan. This is a genre that started on computers, Dungeon Master was a breakthrough in game design back in the day. Is there an equivalent to Knights of the Round for PC?

Another gem I found is Legend of Galactic Heroes strategy game (GFWL lol):

Any other games like that?

There has to be something! I'm fascinated that we hear so little about it.

I would say that the Y's series count, but you could say that it has some "anime" in it.
And otherwise Nobunaga's Ambition, though the last game was from a few years ago.

Binary Domain, Sonic Generations? Ys, Xanadu Next, The upcoming Castlevania, Cave Story, La Mulana, Street Fighter, lots of MS DOS stuff through emulation. A lot of shmups...

How about NeoAquarium: King of Crustaceans?

Final Fantasy 14 lol.

Also, does Resident Evil PC games count ?

I dunno man, Miquo'te are pretty moe.

PSO 2.

I'm not really familiar with them but aren't there quite a few japanese bullet hell games? Though few get translated and when they are it's mostly by fans :P

I hate how most of the Japanese bullet hell shooters have Moe and Anime bullshit shoehorned into them when it is totally unnecessary.

If you consider the ludicrous amount of popularity Touhou has I think it was a sound business decision, if the games launched without those characters and that art style, it'd be nowhere near as popular as it is today right now.

I'm not particularly a fan of the style, or Touhou but it worked for one series at least.

Are the Koei games still being made? They weren't very anime.

And there is that Dai Senryaku (I probably mangled that), sort of a modern, serious version of Advance Wars. We got one verison published here on consoles, but I think it's a PC game originally.

Edit:

Apparently yes, Koei still makes PC strategy games

Came out this year.

I'm not sure where you'd buy them though, Play Asia was pretty bare.

Dude, you mention LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC FREAKING HEROES in the OP and rule out anime games? Make up your mind!

I'm curious to see if anyone has recommendations, though. You could always look at the old Hudson PC games on Hg101 or something, if those count.

Is that really anime, though? It's a cartoon, obviously, but looks relatively realistic, nothing exaggerated (like the eyes) and he has a nose. Even the hair color is realistic - people do have red and yellow hair.

Its a space opera about politics and military. Highly recommended. One of the top rated anime btw.

@Jackpot: really? Gonna look in to that, thanks for the heads up!

Yes. You can have realistic and mature animation. This is a pretty good example. And it was actually a 100+ episode animated series. So it counts.

Anime just means animated shows from japan, so yes.

What do you even mean? Knights of Round is a PC game that was ported to console.

And you ask for no anime titles, yet put up LOGH? Make up your mind.

If you are going to be prejudiced and look only for non-moé non-anime styled games, then the answer is going to be: very little to none. Is that what you wanted to hear?

Yakuza is not a pc game.

Wait, is Yakuza 5 also on PC?

He only posted that list because that's what he saw on Andriasang as coverage and segued into what his point was. And as he stated, Andriasang reports on console stuff. He's not claiming any of the games in the list are PC games. Come on, guys.

Oops, I misread it. I knew something was wrong lol. Very sleepy and not paying attention.

I should have worded the topic better, obviously we cannot have no anime, as in Japan it simply means animation.

I meant: realistic drawn characters, etc., e.g. LoGH, Lodoss, Growlanser, NO MOE SHIT!

Something tells me he's not going to play an eroge.

Played all the Lilith games, but they are all VN.

So the takeaway I'm getting from this so far is that the answer is "no."

Well, it's more of a case of "yes if you're not completely and totally intolerant to any form of Japanese animation", as the Falcom and the Legend of Galactic Heroes game demonstrate.

The problem is that, at a fairly fundamental level, Japanese companies believe there's no market, and so the only people who make any amount of PC games (outside of Falcom, and even they gave up) are, frankly, amateurs.
