I haven't been reading 538 much this cycle (because it's terrible), but if he really is complaining, it's ironic because one of his first points in every interview I read before was that elections don't happen very often and there is too small of a sample to draw meaningful conclusions you can apply to the new one. Every election is very much its own thing.

I can see some people making a decent argument that nothing really could have been done about the initial attack on 9/11(even though I think differently). What is the excuse for Katrina and Brownie heading FEMA? A lot of people died because of the incompetence that came directly from the Bush Administration on that one.
