Jericho demo this week PC/360/PS3

FYI, PS3 Jericho demo 100% confirmed for this week in North America... next week in Euroland.

The press release from Codemasters just a few mins ago:

Action, shooter, horror and Clive Barker fans - prepare yourselves to take on the darkest evil from the depths Clive Barker's mind - and then blast its face off with a hail of gunfire and supernatural powers as Codemasters announces the release of the playable demo for Clive Barker's Jericho. The demo is now available* from Xbox LIVE Marketplace for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION Network for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, with the Games for Windows demo available from www.jericho-game.com.
...

* - NOTE: The European Clive Barker's Jericho PLAYSTATION 3 system demo will launch on October 4, 2007.

Played the 360 demo. Graphics are rather good, but I really don't like the environments. Bioshock is creepy done right, this is creepy done wrong.

At some point, firing didn't produce any rumble, but that must have been a bug.
The sniper rifle felt underpowered compared to the machine gun, and the katana felt not precise at all, but relatively powerful.

I don't know if the demo is tweaked, but the game was extremely easy, I basically ran and gunned my way through the level, switching characters and reviving them when I died.

Could be a quite good game in coop with all the different abilities, but I don't believe it allows coop play.

Oh, and QTEs suck.

Have you played Timeshift?
I was going to mention Timeshift, but I forgot the name. I disliked that demo quite a bit... but this is at least five times worse. At least TS controls well enough that you can shoot something most of the time, and the powers are somewhat useful. You're not randomly slashing out with a sword in the pitch black hoping you're hitting something with no way to tell until you see the corpse evaporate. There's no bobbing like a drunken sailor with one leg either.

I love QTEs although these were way too difficult. a split second to respond and instant death.

bad level to showcase. "catacombs and sewers".

I thought it was boring, shooting the same shit over and over. There was nothing scary about, the atmosphere just wasn't there. Maybe if the demo was set from the begining of the game and eased you into it, perhaps it could've developed, but even then ..meh, I don't think so. It's just the overall presentation (or lack of) and stupid characters with shitty dialogue. It reminded me of daikatana for some reason..

The character movement felt bad, I played the pc version, it might be ok with the 360 controller. The effects while being attacked weren't cool, they were a hinderance. I played up to the quicktime event and had a few tries and turned it off. I kind of expected it to be like this, I watched the gameplay vids on youtube a few days ago when I found out a demo was coming and thought it looked boring but gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Quick note for people playing. The demo ends almost right after the QTE, so you don't have to suffer through it. There's nothing more to see. Not even a lousy movie showing off the rest of the game like Bioshock did.

The lousy movie is on the main menu, and you can decide if you want to watch it or not.

I was gonna say something about how both American McGee and Clive Barker have sunken deeply, then I found out Barker is merely the writer.

So I'll just leave it at this: meh.

It only took me a couple tries as well. Failed the first time because I was like "WTF a QTE?!".
The button presses felt natural. When she looked at her left hand I already knew what button to press.

My main complaint was that it was super dark even with the flashlight turned on.

I'm not going to make a full judgement based on half a level, a sewers/catacombs level too.

The only thing I really though about while playing the demo is I would rather be playing Undying.

I don't think this game is going to turn out well at all...

Since I'm a horror nut to begin with, I enjoyed this demo. While nothing groundbreaking, I'm always game for some hellish FPS madness. I'll be buying this.

QFT.

Took me two tries, and the first was just because I wasn't expecting them.

I thought the atmosphere was creepy as hell and that the controls and abilities were unique. I liked it alot.

< $40 purchase for me, so probably sometime next year.

There really wasn't enough of the demo to judge the final game. I do like the engine the developers put together. This one has been on my radar for some time, I may rent to see if I like it enough to purchase, but I think I will. The character switching took only a moment to get used to, and the story is definitely got potential. Reserving judgment until I can sample the final retail version. I think if this game had been online/LAN/split-screen co-op, it would hands down be a must have purchase.

I actually beat the QTE on my first try. My main gripe with the game is that it's drenched in cheese. I cringed so hard during the "introduction" portion, because the writing and VO were amateurish, at best. If Jericho is aiming for a B-movie feel, then it certainly has succeeded.
I sincerely hope Clive Barker did none of the writing and only provided the concept.

That said, the game does have some notable gameplay elements, though; namely the RTS elements of switching between the Jericho members. Still, as another poster mentioned, the demo just made me want to play Undying.

I don't know which version you were playing, but the PS3 version tells you straight in the face that there will be a QTE to "survive". Let me check if it happens before the start of the game or in that intro video.

I was totally ready for the QTE and the QTE was easy and more fun than the other games.

Ah, 360 version. It's possible I just misse dthe warning, I only played it through once.

Yeah that typewriter part when the game is loading, if you press start before the text finishes, you missed it. The end of it says be prepared to do QTE.

You people actually need a warning for the QTE... wow.

I got past the QTE on my first try, what was so hard about it?

Anyhow, PS3 version seems similar to the 360 one, but was a lot brighter for one, and the framerate was worse.

Decent game, but doesn't scream day one for me.

The pc demo was kinda meh, I wasn't a big fan of switching characters (although I commend them for trying something new) and I thought the QTE was a lot harder than the one in RE4 for comparison.

It wasn't all that scary either.

first thing that made me fail at the QTE was that the Y button was green and not yellow, or maybe my eyes are getting bad :D i normally dont like horror games, cause im too scared of them, but i played through the demo and it was ok

I actually like this demo. I liked how the controls were really responsive and the music was all sorts of atmospheric. Like someone said before I will definitely get this when it hits $40.

I'm getting sick of the Unreal Engine 3. All these games have the same visuals that just don't look right and have a sickly blur to them.

Good thing it's not UE3.

A bit too dark, couldn't see much even with the flashlight.

Brightness was just right for me. Dark enough to leave dark corners here and there, but bright enough to tell what the hell was going on...

Looking forward to the chaos shown in most the trailers.

I played till I got to a bridge area with a gate in front of me, then I stopped cause I coudln't figure out what the hell to do.

You switch to Church and then climb the rocks near at the area the enemies starting coming out from in that area.

I enjoyed this demo a good deal, despite the lack of discernible enemy AI and poorly implemented combat mechanics. The environments have a fantastic sense of otherworldly atmosphere; all rotting stones and lakes of blood and fire. It's a pleasant change to enjoy this kind of atmosphere without the sci-fi elements modern players seem to need to justify the weirdness, although obviously this doesn't extend to the Jericho team members themselves. Though captivating if they're to your taste, sad to say the environments don't convey any sense of fear. The demo level feels more like the original Quake than anything else. Music is exceptionally good. Graphics are pretty flawless, but are occasionally marred by typical next gen slowdown. If I knew the game was 25 hours long I'd buy it just for the ride; but the combat I've seen wouldn't keep me coming back. It serves the game, but it should define it - that's what elevates great games above those which play like interactive movies, however enjoyable.

As has been said, the sniper rifle ought to be more powerful, especially given that we're fighting grunts in the demo. However, its rate of fire makes it an oddly solid close range weapon. It's more balanced than it might be, and I found that Black seemed the most well rounded of the three characters. I'd have preferred her rifle to be less useful close up, and her telekinesis more effective. It's not really a viable weapon (fire upgrade non-withstanding - the demo takes place halfway through the game), and it really should be. Delgado is your standard tank: slow, capable of mowing down anything once he has the momentum, but his pyromancy didn't feel that slick to use. Church was fun, but her blood magic could have been a lot more interesting. Pretty much anything would top the fire and stun attacks. A taser or flame thrower can do the same job without leeching your life energy. Her sword should strike more quickly, and she needs a Gears of War chainsaw style melee attack that requires a bit of charging for a brutal finish. She has a sword, so why give her the same generic punches as everyone else?

QTEs have never been this well implemented in my opinion. I loved the way each face button controlled an area of the body - very surprised people are complaining about them.

And yes, it is too dark on the default settings. Go to the options menu and crank up the gamma a couple of notches. Problem solved.

I'm waiting for reviews on this one. It's probably not something for which I'd pay full price, but the music and atmosphere alone make it a must play for me.

I enjoyed it on the second play. On the first play I couldnt figure out what to do, its was all over the place.

Nice graphics engine, good atmosphere. The combat is very chaotic, may too much. You try to fight with yourb hands and you dont know what to do half the time or where the enemy is. The blood spatters on the screen are soo 2005/06, now its just obstrusive and affects gameplay.

Its not a real horror game. Its not scary but it has visual elements from horror movies and stuff. I hope it has scary parts.

I would buy it at $39.99, seems like a good game.

So I'm going to assume this is Clive Barker's attempt at self-parody, or something?

I liked it. They need to tighten up the control and add some type of pause when you are switching characters using the d-pad.

The graphics in the game were surprisingly good to me (360 on 720p VGA), and the demo was reasonably fun. I also had no trouble whatsoever with the QTE, and would even venture to say I "liked" it in the context of a brief demo. However, there are some major issues I have with the game:

-The head-bob is WAY too extreme. This is especially apparent with the ninja chick when you use her sword; I mean jesus christ, how are you supposed to see what's going on? I like head bob in FPSs, but this needs to be toned down a ton.

-The flashlight is too dark. I actually liked the extremely dark environments, but the flashlight area needs to be more illuminated for it to work.

-The reload animations are terrible and boring. Maybe it's just me, but if guns in an FPS aren't fun to shoot and reload, the game falls apart. They also need some semblance of recoil or feedback when you shoot them-- it feels like you're shooting a BB gun. I will say though that the animation when you look into the sniper rifle was very cool.

-Sound effects are shitty, mainly the guns.

If these issues are addressed I could definitely see myself buying the game. It did take me by surprise, I didn't expect to like it at all.

Downloaded the demo..

I will be passing on this game... Bad Demo which has left a sour taste in my mouth to actually purchasing the full game

It's alright. Nothing special, nothing terrible.

WTF with the QTE though. The damn things infest every genre now.

Tried the demo (360) and it was ok i guess.
Never been a fan of QTEs , and this game sure as hell didnt change that.

Pass on Jericho.

Ran well (in 720, see a few ppl saying the framerate was ass but I didn't see that at all), some kinda neat gameplay mechanics with your team, and despite the multiple powers and attacks I found myself controlling the characters pretty easily. A few kinda cool story things in there, including a clever gameplay conceit with the dead squad leader. I found the 2 teammates actually pretty helpful.

Sadly, I just don't like the look of the game, it's like all the stuff I found ugly - not scary, not creepy, just ugly and annoying to look at - in The Darkness ramped up and smeared in grime and blood. And dark, oh so dark even with the flashlight. The story may or may not be interesting, but the characters were straight out of Horror Game Central Casting. I'm not *complaining* about the look-at-my-tits leather gear of the ninja chick from the back woods of tennessee, but I did smirk at about half the character names.

Still, it seems like a solid title based on the demo, hope it finds it's audience just as a reward for the few well-implemented new wrinkles to the horror FPS I saw.

See this is what I liked in the game. The animations were subtle and the sounds were pretty solid. (sound similar to CS sounds)

Tried the PS3 demo, was kinda intrigued by the atmosphere but good lord the framerate was horrible. Reminded me of trying to play FPS games on a PC not powerful enough to handle them.
