Jimmy Kimmel makes fun of YouTube Gaming

There's something wrong with the people who preffers watching rather than playing if they can actually play: They are lazy as fuck.

Sorry for the truth.

Not really. I blame these hand-holdy linear auto platforming - "interactive" cinematics where you just hold up while explosions and shit happen around you.

These games are so routine and by-the numbers where people are jizzing their pants over non-gaming stuff like close ups of someones face and "story is awesome" = Game of the Year. I can see someone ask themselves "why would I pay $60 when I practically can see the game mechanics play out with my eyes anyway."

So you are paying attention to the streamer and not the game. That's another story.

You cannot play basket or football to pro's level, that's why it is entertaining.

I wont repeat myself again: I'm talking about watching others do WHAT YOU CAN DO.

I dont talk about funny reactions, I dont talk about spectacle, and I dont talk about pro plays.

I think the streamer(s) are definitely the bigger draw. No one is just watching straight up playthroughs of these games, the streamer has to offer entertaining commentary or be highly skilled. If the person is boring and sucks at the game then they likely don't have much of a fanbase. For instance, Giantbomb fans will watch anything those dudes put out -- the game is almost irrelevant, which is why they've started experimenting with things outside of videogames. I imagine the same is true of Pewdiepie, Angryjoe, and all the other big streamers. Taking a peek at Pewdiepie's channel, he has a video where hes just looking through his backpack that has 3 million views... so that seems like a safe assumption.

I certainly cannot play CS:GO at ESL levels. Is that acceptable?

I didn't find the original video or his response video funny.

Very much old man yells at cloud syndrome.

But man the gaming community with those responses to Kimmel were so cringe. *sigh*

Great point Jimmy...why watch people play video games when you can play them. Heck, why watch baseball when I can just play it. Better yet, why watch your show when I can just go tell my own "jokes" to people.

Do people like that even exist?

Is it even worth your time condemning these hypothetical 0.3% of viewers compared to the rest of the viewers that peruse Twitch for a myriad of other, valid reasons? Think about why so many people jumped on your posts and corrected you.

I know of one example of that at least.

Maybe I assumed that was more common that it really is. Or at least I hope so.

In that case I apologise for all the salt.

Peace GAF.

The reaction to Jimmy Kimmel is funnier than Jimmy Kimmel himself.
Yeah, he is the least funny part of all his sketches I find. The guests outshine him.

On the argument thing though, I get why people enjoy watching streamers. It is much like watching Rifftrax or ESPN. You can make the same argument about "why would I want to watch people talk about sports instead of talking about sports?" but shows like that still exist.

I could say lots of things about sports, but I am not on the inside so I cannot form my opinion as fact. Jimmy isn't a gamer, so he cannot understand things related to gaming. Conan I feel would make better observations about Youtube Gaming.

This is my first post. I think you need to be careful the way you and some others are generalizing on here. I am one of those people that watch and don't play. I am married, I work 50-60 hours a week, own a home, have a dog, go out with friends, enjoy exercise etc., but I LOVE video games. At this time in my life, I cannot justify the $1k+ for a computer nor desire an elaborate Netflix machine. I do not have the hours to spend in front of a monitor as well when there is work to be done around the house, time to spend with the wife/kid, etc. As you get older, time becomes as much as a commodity as actual money. I enjoy twitch when I get in bed at night. I get to keep up with what is going on in the gaming world, and be entertained by some fun personalities and see games I otherwise literally don't have time or money for in my current life circumstance in life. There will be a time in my life where I have the resources again to start playing games again myself, but that time is not now. I know I am probably the minority, and not necessarily who you directed your comment to, but do not call me "lazy as fuck" please. Just think it would be good to show an example of some of the people that enjoy twitch for other reasons.

OK that cat in the blender comment had me rolling.

He's out of touch with the appeal of watching gaming streams, but I still laughed at the original video and some of the comments.

I think his comments were insulting to streamers and their fans, but that doesn't justify what people have been saying to him.

Ha, saw the new thread about Kimmel getting death threats over this so I had to check it out. First, that skit was funny and he's pretty spot on with his commentary.

Second, why the hell are people reacting so violently to harmful poking? First, I'm sure PewDiePie doesn't mind the shout out on national TV, second, appreciate that gaming has gotten mainstream enough that a gag skit on late night tv connects with people!

My only issue is that he didn't think the sports analogies worked. They do. His reasoning was "you are watching somebody play a videogame" so it's an extra layer removed. As opposed to what...watching the game play itself? Playing the game is the activity, playing the sport is the activity. When I watch sports, I am watching other people play that sport.

Wow this reaction really proved how insecure a good majority of gamers really are.

Majority? These people are just the vocal vulgar minority and trolls that take advantage of this hate party and frankly dont give a crap about whats going on.

These people dont represent us as the majority, or better yet, you as an individual.

We shouldnt feel ashamed of something we didnt do.

What should we do? Game on and dont engage with these people.

Or if your that guy, grab some popcorn and watch this silly situation unfold to your enjoyment with out getting involved.

I don't. I dont watch talk shows either. I just think it's stupid. I'm also not an old fuck. Only 23.
Podcasts are fantastic. You're missing out. (Only 23 as well :p)

I wasn't into them for a long time, but then I discovered Hardcore History and now I'm hooked on podcasts. Radiolab, We're Alive, Criminal, and so many other great programs

So much salt in the YouTube comments and in this thread. I personally don't find Jimmy's original video funny (but I agree a bit about his opinion on people watching gamers play on YouTube), but I'm cringing at the reactions from so many people from the "gaming community". Absolutely terrible, no wonder why some stereotypes of our hobby exist.

Do what I did; just turn off the video and move on, get on with your day.

Why would people retweet that

I just watched Kimmel's latest episode, wtf is wrong with the gaming community, death threats and childish shit like that, no one gamers are a huge joke to mainstream community.

As dumb as my tweet is, I just wanna see fallon's reaction. I love his laugh.

The more retweets should give me a better chance getting my tweet in.

I generally have the same attitude, but extended to most activities. I'd rather do than watch. The only sport I can watch is WRC, MotoGP, and F1.

You can easily cherry pick horrible comments like that out of the comments section of any popular YouTube video. This isn't exclusive to gaming at all.

Looks like Jimmy found himself a new running gag for a week or two. Unfortunately his sense of humor is at best a notch above the idiot that thinks themselves clever for saying "Really? Really!" over and over.
